We are not currently shopping for a house, but I'm a real estate lover, so I often browse the sites just for fun. On Friday, I saw a house pop up that we immediately fell in love with. We went and saw it asap, loved it even more, and talked to our mortgage lender about getting an updated pre-approval. We knew that the chances of getting that finalized before it went pending weren't great, but we'd always wonder "what if" and have regrets if we didn't try. Saturday morning it went pending😫 It's smaller than we thought we wanted, especially the kitchen, but it was all super usable and worked for us. The light, flow and merging of indoor/outdoor spaces were just dreamy. My current kitchen has at least 4x the counter space but I do 99% of my prep on my 3x2 cutting board on the island, so I really don't need all of that. If you don't like MCM, you'll hate it the one that got awayUPDATE: the pending transaction closed and it sold yesterday. For $311,000 over ask. I knew the price was way low but am a bit shocked that it sold for that much. It must have been an all cash deal to close so quickly (plus I REALLY doubt it would appraise for that much if a mortgage were involved). www.redfin.com/OR/Portland/6215-SW-California-St-97219/home/26394129

I love it! Too bad DH has no desire to move across the country. I'd love to live in Oregon.

That house is an absolute gem! Although I’m pretty sure I spent more time looking at the furniture & art than the architecture! Do you have the furniture to do it justice? I think the current owners hit the sweet spot of balancing MCM with current living. I love it too!

I understand. That is a beautiful house!
Earlier this year, I fell in love with a house. It was the vintage details - floral wall paper, plaid flooring and painted cabinets in the kitchen etc that stole my heart. The worst part was going by the house and seeing that the new owners (or flippers) were tearing out all the beautiful features.
Sadly, we don't have MCM houses here.

I cannot begin to tell you all the hoops I would have jumped thru to get this house. Be still my heart.

Love it. Love the metal roof and all the windows. It has the same feel as our old house which I miss all the time I’ll try to post pictures it was beautiful. I also spend most evenings on Zillow haha. You could still get it right? It isn’t pending? Eta - oops pending

Wow that’s gorgeous. And the price makes me weep - so reasonable compared to Toronto.

Wow that’s gorgeous. And the price makes me weep - so reasonable compared to Toronto. I'm fairly certain it's going to sell for well above list because it's pretty low for the overall property - but yes, Portland is not as expensive as Seattle, the Bay Area, etc. or any of the major Canadian cities

that is very nice. i feel like if you don't already have MCM furniture you would have to get almost all new furniture for it to look nice.

yeah, if we actually luck out and get the chance to buy it, we will end up replacing most of our furniture. Which is fine. I'd probably hire an interior decorator to get it right.

I’m in Oregon right now and it’s actually raining and everything is so green - love it. We did a walk in the drizzle yesterday and coming from parched CA it was heaven. I find prices in Portland to be 1/2 -1/3 of Bay Area.

I love that house so much. I don't think I could keep all that glass clean, but that is one swanky house.
I hope you still have a chance, even though it is pending!

It is gorgeous, and what a great location! So funny to see a pool though, so few houses have them here. The kitchen would be too small for me, but I love everything else about the house.

Mid Century Modern. That style of house is very popular right now here in the states.

I have been schooled. I was guessing it meant McMansion, b/c I couldn't think of anything else, but then the house didn't have that vibe at all! I love it. I'd be sad to lose it, too!

Great house! I'd have to be putting in the contract that the furniture and little camper would need to be included though! Any updates that have been done were done tastefully which is not always the case. Fingers crossed the other deal falls through and you get a shot at it!
