Our local news a couple days ago mentioned a great milestone for vaccinations in PA! They said in the 65 and older population, 100% have received at least 1 dose! I was shocked and so happy to hear! I think many in this age group had friends and relatives hurt by polio and other diseases, and recognize the importance of vaccinations. And 80% of that age group are fully vaccinated.

Sadly I think your news gave some wrong information. I wish it were true. There are a fair number of Covid deniers and anti-vaxxers here in PA who ain’t about to get no stupid vaccine, including many over 65. The commentary on my Facebook feed involving friend of friends is very eyeroll-inducing at times. ETA I just googled and I’m seeing that they’re saying they’re very close to 100%. This really shocks me. Sorry I doubted your news maryland! I really am very surprised. I guess I unfortunately know some of those who are keeping it *almost* 100%. But yay for PA!

100%. I don’t believe it. Great if it’s true but I doubt it. Hopefully it’s close to that.

I was surprised too! I recorded the news because I knew my husband wouldn't believe it! I think that age group may just be smarter when it comes to vaccines because they have seen the devastation when there is no vaccine (polio, measles, etc.). There were so many walking around with Trump signs and t-shirts, etc., so I never thought they would get the vaccine. I am so happy they did!

I believe there are a lot of trumpers/COVID deniers that got the vaccine secretly. They would never admit it in a million years because they are not great thinkers. Hell, even the orange psycho got his vaccination.

I'm absolutely not buying this. Every homeless person, every denier, every single person over 65? No.

This is not true. I worked until last week with two people over the age of 65 that did not receive the vaccine. They are opposed to it and said they are counting on herd immunity. A third lady, she’s 94, may or may not have, but never mentioned it to me. I was out two months with COVID, lost my husband and mother, and the two “over 65” told me directly of their plan to not vaccinate.

I'm sorry no one believes this. I guess our local news lies. I was just trying to post something good, but I guess I shouldn't have. I am stupid about technology or I would post the picture from the news. I may try to set up a new account on my phone (where the picture is) so I can post from my phone. I don't know my 2peas password (like I said, I am pretty dumb about things like this) so I can't log in on my phone. I will try to figure out something. If not, I will delete this post so I don't spread lies.

You're good and I'm happy for your seniors! That percentage IS impressive.

The bottom line is that anything over 97.55% could be rounded up to 100%. And even if it was 97.55%, instead of the 99.98%, that would most likely still be higher than needed for herd immunity! (We still don’t know the exact % needed for COVID, but it is highly likely over 90% is enough)
And I think it is awesome news. TFS! 😍

I hate the toll that Covid has taken on so many families, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop getting angry every time I hear of someone who can’t be bothered to do their part to put and end to all this.

This is the only remaining daily newspaper in the Pittsburgh area (formerly owned by Richard Mellon Scaife) and it's quite reputable. The information was also released publicly by the Allegheny County Health Dept.

This is the only remaining daily newspaper in the Pittsburgh area (formerly owned by Richard Mellon Scaife) and it's quite reputable. The information was also released publicly by the Allegheny County Health Dept. From the article: “The state’s vaccination dashboard differs from the CDC claim, showing just 2,093,722 people 65 and older as having at least one dose, which comes to 87.5%. However, the state’s dashboard does not include figures from Philadelphia, which tracks its own vaccination numbers. The reasons for Pennsylvania’s nearly 100% mark among the 65+ set per the CDC could be a result of the use of 2019 figures, which could be undercounting the number of residents. Also, not everyone replies to the U.S. Census, which then can skew percentages when real-time calculations are implemented.” It’s still very high, with only Vermont and Hawaii higher.
