My 18 year old daughter who just graduated HS is going to the graduation party of one of her good friends, who is male. My daughter didn’t have a party, because she didn’t want one. Is it normal for my daughter to bring a gift for this? If so, any suggestions on types of gifts? TIA😉

Our our experience, some friends brought cards but not gifts. And most didn’t bring cards.

Most kids going to other kids' grad parties don't bring gifts or cards.
As a parent, if I felt a connection to the grad, I might send a check, as a gift from our family.

About half brought gifts and half didn’t. All parties my son attended we sent him with a gift. I ordered about 10 small student tool boxes from Amazon (about $15 each).
Those that brought gifts for my son mostly gave cash $20-40. One brought a personalized towel in his college colors. Very nice!

They bring gifts here where I live - not huge gifts - usually like a 25.00 Bed Bath and Beyond gift card.

It depends on how close they are, also to your family. If it's a best friend, close to the family, definetly we did a card and usually money. If just a classmate, not esp close, my girls usually did a card, or nothing.

If it’s where the entire class is graduating and they are all party hopping, I think the kids agree together on gifts or no gifts. Otherwise I take a card with $25 check.

IME, most kids that attended grad parties didn't bring anything, especially the younger ones. The ones that did give a card had jobs and were closer to the grad. I noticed that the parents who knew the grad as well put more money in the card.

Thanks everyone! My daughter is in a small friend group of 4. She is going to get him a gift card, especially since she makes a lot of $ in tips at her job and this friend has given my daughter thoughtful gifts in the past. 😉

When my kids were doing graduations, some brought gifts and some didn't. Usually some money or a gift card to Starbucks, etc. Either way was fine around here. I think my daughter and her friends tended to take more gifts than my sons did when they graduated and went to parties. But, I don't really know, they may have handed their friend $20 or something for all I know!
