This is a timely thread. My boss just told me that she bought an Oasis in the Prime Day sales. When she told me how much it cost, I was shocked at how much more expensive it was compared to my Paperwhite. Personally I don't think it's worth the extra money, but by the looks of this thread I am in the minority. I didn't think so either, which is why I dithered about it for so long. But now that I have my hands on one I think it was totally worth it! Those buttons! lol

Does it have scrolling capabilities??? No, it doesn't scroll, it turns the pages just like on a book. It's not a tablet, it's only an e-reader. So if you want a tablet for other things don't get the Paperwhite or Oasis. Or, get it for how much nicer it is to read on that a tablet, and get the tablet for other uses.

I just read your post after posting about the cover below. I do have a cover on mine. I got it soon after I got the paperwhite, so not sure if I have the same problem before. I have a cover (which closes like a book) AND the page protector. In 2014 I Had no idea how easy it would scratch.... Wow, I didn't know they had page protectors. Where did you get it? I have something like that to protect the phone screen, so maybe it's similar? My phone screen protector is cracked, so I have to get a new one and verizon doesn't sell them anymore. I may have to order one for my phone and kindle.

You all are a bunch of enablers!! I love my Kindle (currently a Paperwhite) but I just ordered the Oasis. I never thought I was the "I need the newest technology" kind of person, but maybe I am. Or maybe it's just FOMO. Looking forward to beach reading without a plastic baggie to protect it and one-handed page turning. And this... When I ordered it there was a box that was already checked that said "Link to my Amazon account to simplify setup." My 18 yr. old ordered it for me (I have hardly ever ordered anything online, so I didn't want to mess up) and I asked her if she saw that box but she didn't. So hopefully when we get it she can figure out how to do that. I am technology challenged, so I can never figure out how to do that stuff. What will I do when my youngest goes off to college!

Thanks! I guess it's me too, I think I have larger than normal thumbs or something. I can't text either, I can just use the speaker on my phone to text! The other thing I don't like as much as with paper books is flipping back. If I forget who a character is, if I am reading a paper book I can flip back to find the information. I can't do it on my kindle. I appreciate your review! On my Paperwhite, if I tap the characters name, it will bring up all the places the character is in the book previously...helps so much when there are lots of names! I forgot that you could do that! I read that somewhere and tried it and even showed my kids. Then I didn't read on the paperwhite in a couple months and completely forgot. Thanks for letting me know.

I found the oasis to be so much better with my arthritis and tendinitis in thumb. Regular books were too thick to hold and i struggled keeping the paper white steady in one hand. The oasis was the perfect fit and I also love having my other hand free to snack. I read a lot that what people like is that you can read in the oasis one handed. I can't even imagine how that's possible, so I'm really excited to get it in the mail! They had one at Best Buy, but there was no one available to show me how it works, so I could't figure it out myself. Also it was hooked to the wall, so hard to pick up.

Thank you, enablers! I managed to talk myself out of this last night. Then I saw this thread. I have an Oasis to arrive in July. I think I will really like it. I would go back and forth for so long about what to do. I wanted to make sure I liked the paperwhite before I got an oasis. I'm still nervous because of the price, but at least I got my paperwhite ($84) and this one at a discount!

It only works if the book you're reading is X-Ray enabled. I also noticed that some shows on Amazon Prime have X-Ray as well. Such a cool feature!

I charged it and turned pages and read a little and realized I stopped using it because of the screen and the sluggish page turning. I am very sensitive to lights and can get migraines. I set my computer monitor to a warm setting and it is helping. So, I think the warm setting on Oasis will help with eye strain when I read. I work hard as a teacher and this past year was awful, so it’s my reward to myself:)

In the past month or so he's talked me through: -- hooking up a second monitor to my laptop so I could substitute teach virtually on Teams (which was more complicated than just connecting the two devices with a cable because I was using a school laptop). -- told me where to plug in the Firestick after the Verizon technician pulled it out and forgot to put it back -- talked me through telling the Firestick about our new internet network and password Not sure what we'd do without him! lol. Dd is my iPhone tech advisor since ds is not an Apple guy. lol

It's possible because both buttons are on the same side of the Oasis, and the button side has a slight shape to it so your hand fits comfortably around that. Your thumb is right there to hit the top button to turn the pages, or the bottom button to go back if you need to. If you want to use the other hand to read you just flip the Oasis upside down and it reorients itself immediately. Now you're ready to use the other thumb to hit the buttons. It's such a good feature because now it's easy to read while eating or holding a coffee cup or whatever.

My youngest just graduated from high school and her second grade teacher stopped by with a gift for her. We were talking and she was telling us about how hard this year was.
I get "eye" headaches from sunlight, so I understand what you mean about being sensitive to lights. I have read so many reviews before deciding to get the oasis. Many loved the warm light options for the oasis. I didn't have many problems with the lighting from the paperwhite, but I can't wait to see what the oasis lighting is like. I also read that many people didn't read much on their paperwhite but love reading on the oasis. But there are so many that love their paperwhite too, so I guess it depends on the individual. Many love the buttons on the oasis.

I think my kids would get too frustrated with my questions! My husband is pretty good with technology (but I think the kids are even better) but he gets so frustrated with my constant questions! I told him if I don't do it every day, I won't remember! I may have to borrow my neighbor's daughter.

In fact for the Firestick, just to tease ds a bit, I first sent a photo of the back of the TV...no words, just the photo. Then I sent a photo of the Firestick not plugged in. Again, no words. Then I waited. After a minute or so ds replied to say "are you asking me where to plug in the Firestick? If so, put it in the blah-blah-blah slot" (I forget the name of the one he told me to plug it into). lol. I did the same with the school laptop... sent him a photo of all the ports, then a photo of what I was seeing on my screen (the issue was that the external monitor wanted to mirror the laptop, not give me the option to move another window over there). It would be a LOT more difficult if I wasn't able to text photos because the photos save us a lot of question and answer stuff.

I can text the kids a picture, then they can put it in a snapchat so they can mark the picture to circle what I need to look at. If I sent them a picture of the tv, they would circle where I need to plug something in. I hope that makes sense! We all use snapchat to explain things in pictures.
