I always seem to have “raccoon eyes“ from mascara after an hour or so. Yesterday I was at a luncheon and before leaving used the bathroom. To my horror, I had them again (I hadn’t worn mascara in a while due to the pandemic and forgot about the smudging that happens) and had several pictures taken earlier. 🤦🏼♀️
I’ve tried all different brands, setting sprays, etc. without any luck. I often don’t even bother wearing mascara because it’s so embarrassing, but I love the way it looks on my lashes. I’ve tried false lashes but can’t apply them no matter how many times I’ve tried.
Any secrets or tips? TIA!

I always use waterproof mascara and it doesn't seem to do that so much. Also, I use a product called lid-lock that is a primer for my eyeshadow - it helps as well for the mascara.

I quit putting mascara on my bottom lashes for that reason. No matter how waterproof it was it still smudged my under eye. Sometimes I'll do a clear mascara just for a little umph. I don't get that problem with top lashes.

I'm wondering if you use a very emollient face cream/sun screen that is dissolving your mascara? I have a feeling that may be the culprit.
Other than that I ditto trying waterproof mascara as well as avoiding mascara on the lower lashes.
good luck, that must be very annoying!

Do you powder your face? Especially under your eyes?
I use an eyelid primer and I powder under my eyes. I don't have this issue unless it's 100 degrees out with 80% humidity. I second the idea of trying waterproof mascara.

i have the same problem with my "smudge free" eyeliner. i think it's my sunscreen. i don't put it all the way to my lash line but i think it gravitates there.

Do you put your foundation or concealer right up close to your eye underneath? That will act as a make up/mascara remover every time you blink.

Yes, I put concealer right up under my eyes. I never wear mascara on my lower lids because I can’t even imagine what I’d look like when it smudged! I’ve tried powders but they make my teeny wrinkles look gigantic. I’ll try waterproof mascara again - thanks!

I have oily skin and had raccoon eyes for over 30 years until I tried Thrive mascara a few months ago. It’s amazing! Not a smudge of a smudge!

I have this problem as well. I love Thrive Causemetics mascara. It doesn't smudge on me at all. However, I ran out and got Loreal Unlimited and Lancôme lash idole to try, and neither of them smudge on me. That is very unusual because literally every other mascara but these smudges on me. I like the Thrive the best.

L’Oréal Double Extend. It’s the only mascara that doesn’t give me raccoon eyes and I’m a mascara junkie.

I have hooded eyes. They are also very oily. I have had racoon eyes as well.
Lately, I notice that I really need to clean off oil and make up from my eyes so they aren't so oily. I faithfully use lancome eye makeup remover. Somedays I use Anatasia Beveryly Hills eye primer. That stuff is thick and my make up doesn't move. But since my eyes are cleaner and less oily, I don't need it as much.
I've always looked for a dry type mascara. My past favorite had been diorshow. I'm currently using Benefit rollerlash. The actual mascara doesn't seem to matter as much anymore now that my oil and dirty face/eyes is more in check.
Good luck finding what works for you!
