Their moronic thinking is beyond ridicule at this point. "This time, it’s to see how far conservative Republicans will go to snatch birth control from women. Yes, birth control that prevents unwanted pregnancy and reduces abortions — contraceptives that you can get from your doctor’s office. They are specifically targeting highly effective intrauterine devices that have been shown in studies to lower the rate of abortion and teen pregnancies. We know this debate isn’t really about abortion. Republicans, who have a supermajority in the statehouse, have already passed the most restrictive abortion ban in the country back in 2019. With upcoming elections next year, however, the anti-abortion zealots had to find a way to one-up each other on their anti-choice credentials. They’ve opted to disingenuously expand the definition of “abortion” to include using IUDs, like the Mirena and ParaGard, which is not an abortion by any stretch of medical explanation. Dr. Denise Willers, associate professor of obstetric and gynecology at Washington University explained that both types of IUDs — hormonal and copper — work by preventing fertilization of the egg. “You do not have egg meeting sperm. You don’t have a pregnancy. It’s a prevention of conception,” she said. As someone who has used an IUD, she is offended by the mischaracterization of what it is and how it works." www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/parenting/aisha-sultan/sultan-republicans-lawmakers-want-your-iud-and-its-creepy-as-hell/article_3f6b52b7-1a41-52fb-b3a5-326b13578dd4.htmlMother fu3948INg f9348%#(*$ers. They don't want women to "have babies they can't afford." But they also don't want to help pay for IUDs. What they REALLY want is virigins until marriage - in line w/their patriarchal, misogynistic stone-age thinking and favorite book.

This is my beef with the Catholic church too. You can't be anti abortion and anti birth control. And why the hell is it all about the women? Why don't we start passing laws regarding men's sexual health? Assholes!

Long term birth control LOWERS the abortion rate. It LOWERS teen pregnancy. It LOWERS unplanned pregnancy and I assume it lowers to number of people on public assistance.
Just ask Colorado.
But these people don't care about that. They want to pretend to be morally superior.
Assholes

Drove through Missouri on the way from Chicago to Texas a few weeks ago. Literally EVERY MILE there are anti-choice billboards. The ENTIRE state. But no ads for supportive ministries for pregnant women, anything pro-child, etc. Just scary anti-choice.

The majority of women who have abortions already have children. You’d really think that if you wanted to reduce abortions, you’d want as much birth control access as possible—these are not women who do not want children, but do not want more, or cannot emotional, physically, or financially handle more. You would think you’d want them to have the tools to control their childbearing.

The Catholic church and Evangelicals don't want women to have sex, married or not, therefore birth control is not needed. Just close your legs!

I get physically ill when I hear things like this. I lived through the time when women had absolutely no control over their own bodies. You young ones have no idea the torture and mental trauma of those days…and we are heading back there again.
Women birth and raise those assholes who are trying to take us back into the dark ages. I just don't get it.
I'd be willing to take up arms and draw some blood to make certain that the only person to make decisions about the bodies of women are the women themselves.
Fuck all of you females who do not support choice. You are broken women.

What is sadly ironic is that SO many of them have been exposed for having gotten mistresses or strippers pregnant and then trying to force them to have abortions. The last administration was FULL of these people.
Adhering to the same rule, are we to assume that these men don't masturbate either? And is viagra out of the question, since it's so unnatural?? Their rules seem to want to only restrict women and reduce them to babymakers. It's antiquated.

The Catholic church was staunch in having couples refrain from sex unless they were trying to create a baby. Birth control was out of the question. My parents were believers in the religion and they had 6 children in 8 years. After that, my mom began questioning the church. It became obvious that the church had a lot of flaws.

It is the belief down here and we always see young girls with 5 young children or more. Tell me how that makes sense to ingrain these young girls with the idea of having a baby, and why it's so wonderful?? They're rarely married (how is that okay in evangelical churches???), and have babies with different men. They struggle to get by and depend on the government for aid. Makes NO sense to me when we could be teaching these girls to be independent and to choose when and if she wants children.

Then there is a greater chance they’ll leave the church. It is all about church control over women, and keeping membership in the church.

Believe me, I grew up in the Catholic church and I still hold on to most of those beliefs. The church by itself is what I no longer believe in. Some of the nuns and priests who gave years of their lives to the church, realized that they're living on sprawling estates while their members of the church are sometimes in dire need of assistance.
People down here in FL often end a conversation with, "Have a blessed day". Nice sentiment, but how do you know if I'm religious? How do you know I'm not offended by that sentiment. It annoys me. It doesn't seem to be genuine.

Having grown up in this culture, what I learned is that BC pills and IUDs prevent pregnancy in two ways: one, by preventing ovulation so there’s nothing to fertilize, and two, in the event that something happens and an egg does get fertilized, making lining of the uterus is thinner and more hostile to implantation. Last I looked, the info packet with your BC pills will bear this out. The second mechanism is what they call an “abortion” because a zygote was prevented from implanting as god intended.
Obviously I don’t go along with any of that. Just saying that’s where their “objection” comes from.
And yes, it has entirely to do with controlling women and punishing/shaming sexually active women, and nothing to do with concern for unborn children.

Women birth and raise those assholes who are trying to take us back into the dark ages. I just don't get it. and I'm guessing most of them have a wife who must, at least in public, go along with their views. And most likely a church and pastor that helps them to come to these conclusions?? Do they *really* espouse these views, even in their PRIVATE lives?? For reals?? They're that ignorant, patriarchal, and patronistic?? I dunno... it's just scarier than I ever thought it would be, even after DT got booted.

In a perverted way I can understand that, as scared as most of them are. What pisses me off are the disgusting women who do not support women having the same rights as men. My fervent wish is that women who don't support choice burn in hell for what they do to their female sisters.

Yeah, just don’t have sex if you don’t want children. That works. BUT - be sure you submit to your husband in all things…. Where do they think that leads?

And if women can't, what are the men doing? Who are they getting together with? They never say anything about men, just women. So frustrating! And don't get me started on those dads who don't want their daughter to date, but for their son, he can date whenever and whoever he wants. I hate double standards!

Anything that makes the uterus “inhospitable” to implantation is abortion to some. To be honest, I got old without even knowing this. The first time I heard about it was in the Hobby Lobby case.

I wish the medical field was more upfront about this. None of the doctors who wrote me BC prescriptions mentioned it - I had to learn it from church. This lack of transparency fuels a lot of Catholic/Evangelical distrust of modern medicine. To me, the messaging needs to be, the pill works in these two ways, and you have an absolute right to use them and have them covered as part of your normal health care. If you’re not OK with that, these are your other options, which will also be covered.
