I’m not actively training for anything but I feel like I should be. Plus I have this vague idea of trying to slowly visit all the states - and was thinking that registering for a race in some of the more random states might be a good idea (and it sounds familiar that there was a pea that was running a race in each of the 50 states?)
I used to do a half marathon every couple years but I’m not sure I’m that ambitious anymore lol…
Would love to hear what other peas are doing - big, small, near or far…

I was training for a 10k but I ended up with some Achilles pain, and after unsuccessful calf work/deep tissue massage, I went to the doc and he thinks I have a stress fracture. So... no running for me for 4-6 weeks and off to PT. Boo.
That said, I found a great personal training/small "boutique" gym and I have decided to invest in that during my rehab

Not a race, but, I am training to hike Mount Timpanogos, which is about a 15 mile hike and the second highest peak in the Wasatch Mountain Range.
It will be a stretch for me, with a bad back and knees, but, I am determined. I was supposed to do it last year for my 50th, but, Covid. I have been doing some 3-4 mile climbs regularly, and will start doubling those hikes over the next couple of weeks.

Me. I sit here wanting to run. I keep thinking if I sign up for a race, then maybe I will actually be incentivized to train. I'm having a hard time with life right now. I know if I can just make it out the door that the benefits of running will improve my whole day, but here I sit.
And I want to go. So very badly.

I am so jealous of you all that can still run. I was never really a great runner, but, I did do a couple of halfs and really enjoyed trail runs.
After my last knee surgery my doc said no more running ever again. I really miss that runner’s high. Boo hoo!

My plantar fasciitis is killing me but i keep walking and running as it allows. But that also means I'm not too competitive anymore. I wish I was 😞
I refuse to quit altogether but I'm sure not fast like I used to be. But good for you, planning runs in different states sounds like a really cool reason for traveling!

And I do get a recurring calf injury if I push myself too fast. But I really don’t want to quit - I feel me best when I’m running.

My BIL is running a marathon in every state. I think he has 15 to go.
I have been looking around for races in my area and there are still not a lot scheduled. I am slowing down as well, combined with not having as much time to train. And menopause. I thought about making a goal to do a half somewhere around October. But mostly I feel like just running my short runs a few times a week and letting myself enjoy that.
I’m having a lot of trouble sleeping lately, and I don’t function well on lack of sleep. When I am tired and don’t feel like going out for a run I get dressed to anyway. And once I’m dressed I tell myself to at least go out and walk. And then I usually end up running. Sometimes though, I just enjoy the walk and still feel good about that. And then sometimes, I go out and sit on my patio in my running clothes and close my eyes. Then I tell myself to try again tomorrow and pray for sleep.

I am thinking about signing up for the Cherry Blossom run in DC that has been moved to September. I’ll sign up for the 5K portion.
I used to do half marathons, but the stress on my body was too great and I think what caused my Graves Disease to flare up and then attack my eyes. I’m not going through that again if I can help it.
I now run with the dogs 2 miles 5 days per week. So, without the dogs, I think that I can comfortably do a 5K, which is all that I will push myself to do these days.

Let me see what I can find.

Unless it's in a vehicle, I'm out. 😅
Another thing that I've always wanted to like, but nope, running.
Kudos to those who do!

I’m currently training for the Boston Marathon 💙💛! I was registered for the virtual Boston marathon until an opportunity to run for charity came up unexpectedly. I had seen several charities, but this one spoke to me. I applied and was accepted in less than 48 hours so it happened pretty quickly!
For anyone thinking about getting started with running, I would encourage you to look at running clubs/groups in your area. Many clubs run programs for beginners, and all are welcoming to newbies! Don’t be intimidated like I was. Runners are some of the nicest people you will meet (well, most of us, anyways!). I am in an all-women’s running club, it has changed me in ways big and small. Plus you may just meet your crew, and then you’ll have others to meet up and run with who will support you. It’s totally worth it ❤️
The hardest part is getting out of bed and out the door. Best of luck training, everyone!

I've only ever done half marathons but have a hope to someday do a full. My friend is trying to talk me into a full in October. I'm considering but I'd have to get started with training right now. I see my Peloton has a training plan and I'm considering taking it.

I have dreams of jogging (it’s a stretch to call any movement I do “running”) a 5K, but I’m going to have to find a trainer who can help me increase speed and distance without injuring myself. I always end up with tendinitis or a bad flare of PF about a month into any training program.

I usually do about 3-4 half marathons a year and was planning on signing up for one in September and one on October now that they are actually happening. The problem is that I have become addicted to playing pickleball and I can’t stop playing! I need to cut back on the hours of pickleball if I’m going to run.

My last race was a marathon in February 2020 and I am so glad (didn’t think I would ever say that) I was able to compete before covid started. I have a 10k I could do in November that I’m debating to do. That’s it for now. I’m not a big fan of virtual races and as I live in a hot state most races are between November and February so I have some time to decide.

I’ve run the 10K portion of the Marine Corps Marathon and also the Army 10 miler and they also run through downtown DC, it really is amazing to run by the monuments & museums.

Do virtual walking challenges count? I needed to motivate myself to move, so I started signing up for Conqueror themed challenges. You pay a fee and get a virtual bib. Then you track your walking (you can also do other activities, but I choose to walk), they send postcards along the way and plant real trees in honor of your progress at certain points, and once you hit the mileage associated with that challenge, they send you the medal. I wasn't expecting much, but the medals are so nice that I'm hooked. First I did a 46-mile trek. I just finished one that was 125 miles. Now I've signed up for the Ring Road in Iceland challenge that is over 800 miles long. I figure it will take six months, but it is really motivating. I'm even going to buy a nice hanger to display my medals.

I really need to get back into it. I developed a stress fracture in my foot when I was training for my last Half IronMan in December 2019. I haven't run since. I bike on my Peloton daily and ride 300-500 miles a month.
I miss getting to run with my mom. I have never really "enjoyed" running, but did it as a means to an end. I know I should start again. But starting from scratch just takes forever.

Last night I signed up for the Portland Half on October 3rd - so far I am going by myself if any peas want to join. They give you 8 hours to finish so walkers are welcome The race does a loop around the waterfront along the Willamette and sounds very beautiful - I’m going to get a hotel room downtown right by the start - I better start training!

Dh & I have been doing the Run Across America virtual races since last year and it works out to about one 5k and one 10k every 6 weeks. But now he, DD & I are training for a half - the only problem is we can't find an in person race anywhere! Maybe we just don't know where to look to find real races anymore. The only real option we've found is in Philadelphia in November which is what we've decided to do even though it's a 5 hour drive. So yes, in theory I'm training for a half, just not exactly sure where and when it will actually happen, lol!

I looked at the Philadelphia one it looks great.
