you can use this website to compare fees on flights. It doesn't always list discount airlines like JetBlue or southwest though. I go to it to find the best prices, but then I book direct with the airline www.skyscanner.ca

I've never noticed United doing that. I wonder if I could find out before actually booking? I flew IAH to Montreal in June 2019 on United/Air Canada. United did not make it easy to find out the Air Canada confirmation code. Then when I finally got it, AC would not let me select my seat ahead of time. I would hope things have changed but who knows. Southwest has first bag free, I think. From the Southwest website: Southwest will accept the first two checked bags for free provided that the bags do not exceed 50 lbs and 62 inches (L+W+H).

Hi flanz ! I've flown AA a lot, but not since Covid. I have problems with every flight I take regardless of carrier. Just be glad you aren't flying with me. LOL! I really just want to say, have a safe and fun trip! Thanks friend! I'm planning ahead... departure isn't until mid-Oct.

I'm flying American in a couple weeks, so have been watching the cancelled flight info closely. Honestly right now everyone's hurting with severe staffing issues and overfull flights. We flew Southwest this weekend and other than the fact that we arrived there and home safely was the most ridiculous experience I've ever had and I have flown over a million miles (literally) over the last 20 years. Everything that could go wrong went wrong, from screwed up TSA precheck on one of the tickets - despite the boarding pass clearly showing TSA precheck. Then they denied boarding at the gate for my daughter who was holding a valid boarding pass, unfortunately she was about 30 numbers behind us and could not get someone at customer service to help, so I literally had to deplane and accost someone to fix her ticket so we could rush back before the plane took off. Then the return was 10 seats oversold and an hour delay to beg passengers to take $900 travel vouchers to fly home the next day on an indirect flight as they had nothing to bump people to for a direct flight
Oh and then the cherry on top was when they had no disabled assistance for my parents (who were on a different flight) and they waited 45 minutes for a wheelchair and there was no one to actually push it so my mom was trying to push and wrangle bags - it was HORRIBLE! And I'm a southwest fan - but right now the passenger loads are so high and the airlines just cannot keep up. If you're planning on flying go into it with the expectation there will be snafus.
ETA and all I can say is that Air Canada will NEVER get a dime from me. We had tickets last summer that THEY cancelled and refused to refund for over a year - the ONLY airline with that policy. We received full refunds during the pandemic from SW and United for flights that were cancelled as it is US law that if your airline operates on US soil and the airline cancels the flight they must issue a refund - not a voucher. Air Canada fought it for over a year - they had more complaints than any other airline as they refused to refund people's money. It wasn't until the government bailout forced them to refund passengers that we received our money.
