I ordered one of the awesome countertop ice makers on Prime day. It weighs 47 pounds. Amazon shipped it USPS and it showed “out for delivery” on June 23. It didn’t arrive that day, the next, or the next. Finally, on the 26th I managed to catch the postal worker and asked about the package.
She said it was too heavy for her to deliver. I asked what the weight limit is for packages and she said it’s 75 pounds, but she couldn’t bring my 47 pound package to my house because it’s too heavy for her. I asked why she doesn’t have a hand truck or some way to delivery things within the weight limit and she just shrugged and said I’ll need to go to the post office and get it myself.
She also suggested I take someone to help me. I live alone and don’t have access to this kind of help, thus the reason for having it shipped to my door. Once it’s here I can take the parts out of the box and put it together on the counter myself. Also, the post office is close to my home and I can’t get there during the week.
I was so looking forward to some ice to crunch on, but will have to wait until I can find someone to go with me on a Saturday.
Update 7/3/21 A male postal worker just delivered my ice maker. He used a hand truck to wheel it to my porch and unloaded it there. That box IS heavy. I had to drag it inside the front door by the plastic packing straps Now I’m off to unpack, wash, and fill the machine. Doing a happy dance!

I would call the postmaster of that branch or office. Maybe another carrier can bring it to you.

That is so ridiculous! When you go pick it up, I would complain to someone there.

I would all the Post Master and complain. If that doesn’t work I’d call Amazon. It’s on Amazon to get it to your house.
Hope you get some crushed ice real soon !

That is wrong on every level. She is hired to deliver packages up to 75 pounds. So is she just gonna leave it there to collect dust? She needs to find someone to bring it to you if she can't. She is not doing her job.

If it is within the weight limit, I feel like they are obligated to get it to you!

I agree - call. We have a very accommodating post office, and maybe yours is too if you talk to the postmaster.

And just when did she plan to let you know this, had you not managed to catch her? This is unacceptable. She was hired to handle up to 75 lbs. If she cannot, she needs to be reassigned. Call your postmaster tomorrow and let them know what is going on. They can't solve the issue if they don't know she refuses to deliver it. I suggest you file a complaint with the USPS as well. I have reported issues in the past and always had someone from the local branch contact me either by phone or email. Use this link, I have it on the page where you need to start. I agree with everyone else. If the USPS says they'll deliver packages up to 75 lbs, then it's up to them to figure out how. Maybe when she's not delivering your mail, like a Saturday? It's ridiculous. If she could even get it to your driveway, then you could take it piece by piece.
I'm sorry about this. Frustrating!

You need to call if for no other reason that you also don't want it returned. Then call Amazon and tell them. You want your price honored when they finally get it to you!!
ETA:Not just heavy packages. I ordered STAMPS direct from USPS. Carrier left them in the PO even though I got the notice in the morning that the flat 8x10 package was out for delivery. When it was not in my mail box, I checked Informed Delivery and it stated that it was ready for pickup at the PO! Who knows? It was delivered a few days later!!
There is hope for your package.

Call the USPS branch your mail comes from. File an online complaint. If it’s within their restrictions they will deliver it to you. We file complaints at work once in a while and get a call back from the branch manager.
It’s not Amazon’s fault, they often times us USPS for delivery.

I was so looking forward to some ice to crunch on, but will have to wait until I can find someone to go with me on a Saturday. If you can get through to your post office by phone (we never can here but our post office is the absolute worst) call them and raise a fuss. I sent a large cat climbing tower to my ds and his family for Christmas (it was what the 10-year-old requested, lol) and they had the same message.... "out for delivery" then "tried to deliver but no one was at home". This was in the middle of the pandemic so of course someone was home, besides the fact that they have a large front lawn and porch. Anyway, ds called and then they changed their story and said it was too heavy. He asked the limit which was higher than the weight of the package, like yours. He asked them why they'd lied and said it was out for delivery and then that deliver was attempted when it had never left the post office. They didn't have a good answer. So he basically said "I'll be expecting this package tomorrow... it complies with all your rules and I expect you to deliver it." They did. And I think if you call and complain they'll bring yours also. I hate the post office.

That's ridiculous, I would call also.
Latley dh has been ordering large amounts of nails for his construction business and those boxes are super heavy. Our mail carrier picks them up and puts them on the porch like it's nothing. Dh is impressed as they are heavy for him to pick up! I've tried to nudge them with my foot and no way can I get them to even budge. We need to give her a small gift at Christmas or something.

I’m with the I would call group and I would let Amazon know as well.
There is absolutely no excuse for her not to deliver the package. It’s within the weight guidelines.
But really, let Amazon know.

47 lbs! Wow. We bought one on prime day too but it's nowhere near that heavy. And that's with the box and packaging. We have yet to unpack it yet though.

I’d be willing to bet she was going to leave it sitting there until her next day off so whoever the sub was for her route would be stuck delivering it.
One of my BILs used to be a mail carrier and back in the day he would work a schedule where he had every Sunday off but his other day off rotated throughout the week. Whatever day he was off during the week, a sub would have to fill in for his route.
Whatever the case, I would be annoyed enough to complain.

She didn’t offer a written notice until I confronted her. I’ll be calling the post office during a break today.

I ordered 2 queen mattress toppers from Amazon. It was delivered by 2 male postal workers. It was super heavy.
I appreciate them delivering it. We would have to have hooked up a trailer to the car as there was no way it would fit inside.

Twice over the years I have had to call the Postmaster. Heads rolled and I never had those problems again. The problems were solved immediately.

DH carried it in (it was delivered to his office) and he didn't complain about it being heavy so i assumed it wasn't. my mistake. at least they delivered it.

So frustrating! I actually had that happen with dog food (30ish lbs) once and while I did got pick it up (I wasn’t working at the time so while it was a hassle I didn’t make a stink) and the postmaster brought it out and loaded it into my car for me. So if you have to go get it you can probably request they load it for you but really they need to deliver it.
I’m curious if that’s why my package wasn’t delivered today…..said out for delivery, kept checking the mail and nothing. Finally checked the app and it says held at post office. And of course the PO was closed by then. Of course it’s a pair of $15 earbuds, like 5 ounces max 🙄 and I was home if they needed a signature (not that there’s any reason they would) that wasn’t attempted either. My guess is the mailman got tired of walking in the (very light, barely a drizzle by then) rain and called it a day 😡

I have submitted a request for redelivery for tomorrow. If it doesn’t arrive, I’ll be able to go in person Saturday and be a squeaky wheel. I’ll keep you posted! (Pun intended)
