www.npr.org/2021/06/30/1011649192/a-gop-donor-is-funding-south-dakota-national-guard-troops-in-texasSouth Dakota is the most recent state to do this, but Republican governors from Arkansas, Florida, Nebraska and Iowa have all committed to sending law enforcement officers for border security. All of it is just a political stunt to try to create a scandal and damage President Biden &VP Harris. The numbers of troops being sent for 2 weeks to at most 60 days are completely ineffective. Border Patrol alone has 16,000 officers. There are lots of things wrong with all of this, particularly the privately funded deployments. It sets up a really dangerous precedent. Beau of the 5th Column was really fired up about it and better articulates than I can the dangers of this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEHM0wYZRpw

That makes the National Guard members going to the southern border mercenaries doesn’t it. A third party is essentially paying armed individuals to go to the southern border.

It is disgusting and dangerous that a private citizen can basically buy a military response and guard movements/deployment.
I can't believe this is happening in America.
If SD can't pay for them, they shouldn't go. The state shouldn't be able to fund guard movements based on the whims/conveniences of m/billionaires.

The southern border is not some neutral zone, either. These now-mercenary soldiers are or will be occupying the state of Texas. Who is responsible for them?
One would think Governor “Jade Helm” Abbott would be more wary of that sort of thing.
If this is allowed, what is to stop conservative individuals from paying National Guard units to occupy blue cities they don’t like?

OUR MILITARY should never be for sale, not now, not ever!!
This the third time I have posted this!
Only another way to infiltrate our military.. GOP has NO regard for our military as they have shown repeatedly. Former has denigrated our military for years. Cruz did it sitting in the Senate along with his best buds!

How is this possible? The National Guard don't swear an oath to a privately funded mission? What happens when someone gets injured or killed? Who's responsible for benefits, our military or whoever hired them? Can these National Guard troops refuse to go?
This sounds like something out of an insanely bad movie.

casii something else to think about. National Guard is part time, they have private employers!! I would think they could lose their fulltime jobs while they are on a 'private' lark!! Why should taxpayers cover any injuries, supplies or possible deaths! Can they even wear their bought and paid for US MILITARY uniforms?? They are not for dress up !!!

I hope the justice Department or someone else challenges the legality of this. Can the Border patrol refuse their help?

The Iowa governor is sending our State Troopers! She can't spend enough money to have more of them patrol our highways, but she ships them off to the Texas border.
It's all a political stunt.

The SD governor is nuts!! and the republicans love her. They are talking her running for President in 2024. When has our national guard gone anywhere a private civilian has paid for? it's just crazy

How is this possible? The National Guard don't swear an oath to a privately funded mission? My understanding is SHE (as gov) is directing them. HE is paying for them. Still slimy, sleezy and banana-republic-y.
