Ds needs to get started on his thank you cards. One of his friends sent a photo of him at the grad ceremony and it said “I am one grateful grad! Thanks you!” Ds wants to do this but I’m not sure what people think of those kinds of thank you cards. What are your thoughts?

I don't have a problem with them....unless they don't bother to write a note & sign it as well. Then I don't look favorably on them. It seems like an extra expense to just have the bulk of them end up in the trash.

Dd just stuck a 3x4 photo of the professional graduation photo of her in with her thank you cards. I had her hand write a nice personalized note to each person. I am not a fan of mass produced thank you cards with no personalization.

I love photo cards. One of my friend's son sent a photo thank you and it was a picture of him in his letterman jacket. (His announcement was of him in cap and gown.)
We didn't do them for DS so he is stuck with regular thank you note cards.

I think they’re better than a traditional card 🤷🏻♀️
I’d rather have a picture I might keep than a piece of paper I’m definitely going to throw away.
My siblings and I had those for our high school and college graduations, so they aren’t a new thing.

I love them and all 3 of my kids sent them out. Ours had a thank you sentiment along with what their college plans were.

I’m a firm believer in personalized thank you notes (as in, a note specific to the gift giver). I would think a photo announcement was a cop out and kind of a waste of money. I don’t need another photo of the grad - chances are you already sent one with the invite, and a picture isn’t a thank you. Sorry if that’s harsh 😬.

Don't mind the photo card as long as there is a personal note as well acknowledging the gift we sent. A generic thank you, even with a photo is just too generic.

Yeah, I was thinking that sending a photo with the thank you card would be nice. But the friend just sent the photo with the words already printed on the card, so no personalization. Although then I wonder how much personalization you would have in the first place if everyone gave money?

I love them, IF they include a personal note! It can be short, but not just a preprinted thank you with nothing else.
I do keep them if they include a picture - I don't keep written thank you notes with no picture.

Although then I wonder how much personalization you would have in the first place if everyone gave money? I think most graduates would be thrilled to receive $$. It's what I usually give, and with the expenses they will have for college, I know it's going to be used on something they want or need. I will say again, a personal note needs to be included, either written on the back on the photo card or inserted into the envelope.

My comment about personalization was that there isn't much personalization in what the grad writes in the thank you notes, since everyone sent money. So then I was wondering if people care if the message is hand written or not. Does that make sense? Part of me thinks it is lazy but part of me thinks it is efficient.

I like photo thank you cards and when I receive a gift of cash I’ll write “thank you for your generous gift” in a thank you card.

I think the overwhelming answer here is yes, people think your child needs to write thank you notes. The “body sentence” of the note can be the same, but yes, if I’m giving a gift, I expect a thank you note with my name on it and an ounce of time taken to send.

Any type of thank you card with a personal note is fine with me. The ones containing a photo, are my favorite.

A photo card is fine but a personal note should be included, even if every single person gave the exact same thing. The grad could also include how nice it was to physically see them in person at the party and/or some things they might use the cash gift on for school just to change things up a little.

We got 2 photo thank you cards from their graduation. Love them. The both wrote a personal message inside.

They can certainly make it personal. like thanks for coming to my party. Thanks for thinking of me. Just something personal.
