I'm using Blurb to create a cookbook for our daughter and her soon to be husband. 4 and 5 years ago I did the same thing for two special brides to be and was very happy with the results.
I don't know if it's me or if the software has become a bit more complicated... but it doesn't seem quite as user friendly as it did before. I'm sure I can find my way around and create a decent looking book full of photos, stories and recipes... but if you have any specific tips, I'd love to hear them. TIA!

I have always had trouble with adding text in the photo books.
I just make an entire page in different software Photoshop, Silhouette Studio, etc) and upload the finished page, instead of trying to work with the tools that the book apps have.

Are you perhaps using their newer software BookWright rather than their good ol' BookSmart? Check. I think Booksmart is a far better and more intuitive option for the majority of people. If you're on BookWright, simply Google "Blurb BookSmart" to find the link to download that old software from the server in your country and try again. ETA: There is a cookbook option in the beginner's layout choices. Super easy for recipes!

I use the Project Life app to create pages for photo books. There are new "editorial pages" that have 0-3 photo spots and multiple text configurations. There are only a few templates that are free and several sets for purchase. You just save your final page as a photo to your phone gallery and upload as a photo to any website.

I used Blurb years ago on a recipe book. It was mostly text, but I did have photos. I remember it being fairly easy, but it sounds like it’s been changed since then. Good to know because I thought about doing another one that’s updated. I’m interested to see other reply’s here..

Thank you everyone. kelly8875 It may just be me... I have lots of pix I want to incorporate. They have tons of templates to choose from... I think it may just be me having a slow start getting into the mechanics of creating the photo book. As I get recipes from people I'm formatting them all the same way in WORD and putting them into folders by category. I need to sit down with the Bookwright software again soon and play with it some more. (The other books I made a few years ago were also using Bookwright.) I haven't been able to find simple info like how large the photo files need to be in order to get really crisp images, etc. I also want to have the option of having additional copies of the book in ebook or .pdf format and I'm trying to figure out which font will work for all of them. Stuff like that. Gonna go play around with my test book and try to find appropriate tutorials I haven't seen yet.

I think a cookbook is a lovely idea, practical and a lovely keepsake too, I love the idea of stories as well as photos and recipes We have just done a blurb book too about local landscapes and considering an e book down the line. I found this page about fonts for e books and will ask my husband ( when he wakes up ! ) about the rest. He did say that some of his older landscape photos , when enlarged would not be up to scratch so had to sort through them. support.blurb.com/hc/en-us/articles/207804386-Ebook-friendly-Fonts

Here goes ! For photos - generally aim for between 250 and 300 pixels per inch. Bookwright should put an exclamation mark in the top right hand corner of the photo if it thinks the resolution is too low. If you click on the exclamation mark , it should resize the picture to the largest size that will reproduce well. The maximum size is 75 mega pixels. For combining photographs with lots of text - In bookwright you can add text boxes where ever you want on the page using the text tool. Then you can cut and paste text from Word into the text box and format it however you want. Click on the T option and then draw a box on the page. Layouts can be modified so if you choose the template that isn’t quite right, you can resize text boxes or delete them and draw your own, and the same can be done with photo boxes. Once you have modified it to create your own you can click on save layout and use it for future pages. At the top of the interface there is a selection called text files. It gives you details on how to import text from Word. Alternatively if you design your cookbook with photographs as well as text in Word, you can save it as a PDF, and use the blurb option where you upload a PDF file from any application to create the book. www.blurb.co.uk/pdf-to-bookHe found that after ordering the print book an option was available to create a PDF for an e-book. Hope all this makes more sense to you than it does to me ! edited to add My husband used a computer programme called Affinity Publisher to lay out the book and create a PDF , he said it cost under £30 to download from Serif.com and has lots of video tutorials on You Tube . It made it easier to flow lots of text between different pages and around photos. Blurb has details on its website of how to set up margins and page sizes et cetera in Affinity Publisher.
