This one sentence describes what is happening today and started the day trump announced his candidacy for President.
I kind of knew what was happening back in 2015/2016 but didn’t think as many Republicans would embrace him as did. That surprised me.

Yes, I think that’s a good summing up of the situation. Anyone who still supports him at this point is acknowledging they’re okay with white supremacy and the attempted destruction of our democracy, if it means they get to control women’s bodies or keep the fossil-fuel industry on life support or just own the libs, whatever.

6 months ago you might have been able to make the argument that supporting the GOP/Trump wasn't supporting white supremacy. Or that he wasn't a wannabe dictator who would be fine with overthrowing the government so he could stay in power.
At this point, they aren't keeping it quiet anymore. They aren't bothering to hide it. They've made it clear - they support white supremacy and those who will do whatever it takes to keep white men in power. If that means getting rid of democracy, that's just the way it has to be. They're fine with that, so long as they get to hurt the right people.

The ties between Trump and white supremacy organizations like the Oath Breakers and Proud Boys are clear and out in the open. If you support former, you are supporting white supremacy. And I’m tired of Republicans whining that they’re not racist. You are racist if you’re supporting a political party that is racist. Unfortunately for all of us, former is the Republican Party today. Not only that, but Republican led legislatures are passing voter suppression bills directly aimed at minorities and passing bills to control how history is taught in schools. If you support the Republican Party today, you are a racist. Maybe you support the Republican party because of their views on guns, God, abortion or the fossil fuel industry. Whatever your reason, you can’t separate those policies from the racist ones. The Republican Party stands for all of them. If you support the Republican Party, you are embracing all of their policies, including white supremacy. You must also include the ties to Evangelical christians. They think he was chosen by God. Their savior.

I remember during his primary my brother saying if he is the one on the ticket he will tear the Republican party apart. Man, he nailed it.

White Evangelical Protestants... WEP What exvangelicals know that normal people like Jennifer Rubin cannot know, because they did not emerge from that religious tradition (I think she's Jewish), is that WEPs believe they are God's chosen (or will be). They tend to believe the United States was given to "real Americans" by God to be ruled in His name. Those who are not God's chosen are pretty much disposable. (After all, He knows who the righteous are.) The WEP identity is furthermore based not so much of what they are but on what they are not. We are not them. They are enmeshed in the world. We live here temporarily until The End. They represent a multiracial republic. We believe Christ is our King. The degradation is democracy isn't regrettable. It's desirable. Theocracy is the goal. You can be in the in-group (God's chosen) and not realize what you are supporting. That seems to be case for Michael Gerson, a Post columnist. He's a white evangelical Protestant who appears genuinely stunned by what he's witnessing from his co-religionists. On Monday, he scolded anti-vaxxers in the Republican Party, especially demagogues like United States Senator Ted Cruz, for putting politics over Americans' lives. He didn't call out WEPs by name, but he might as well have, given that white evangelical Protestants are the base of the Republican Party. Gerson wrote that: www.rawstory.com/for-white-evangelical-protestants-the-degradation-of-democracy-is-not-regrettable-it-s-desirable/
