I've never understood our half-assed view of "healthcare" that doesn't include dental care, vision care, hearing care, etc. Dems are trying to address this. "There's a list of health reforms Democrats are hoping to load into their GOP-free budget reconciliation bill. But last night, they publicly committed to at least one: expanding Medicare benefits to include dental, vision and hearing care. “Senate Democrats on Tuesday reached an early agreement to pursue a sweeping $3.5 trillion reconciliation package that would expand Medicare benefits, boost federal safety net programs and combat climate change, aiming to sidestep Republican opposition and deliver on President Biden’s top economic priorities,” The Post's Tony Romm, Seung Min Kim and Jeff Stein report." www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/07/14/health-202-senate-democrats-announce-budget-deal-expand-medicare-benefits/"But how will we pay for it!??!?!!" - every f'ing stupid ass GOP sucker. "Some of this could be paid for by including a provision allowing the federal government to directly negotiate lower prices for drugs in the Medicare program — a provision that would actually save the government $345 billion, according to the CBO." Also, maybe we could have the richest who paid no taxes (corps & individuals) PAY THEIR F'ING FAIR SHARE.

When Seniors fall because they can't see curbs or when they get hit because they can't hear cars or bikes approaching, we get to pay for their ER visits and hip replacements. How about we do a something sensible - like paying for vision care and hearing aids instead? Wouldn't that be more "conservative"? "Medicare is a safety net with a conspicuous hole: It neglects to cover most dental, hearing and vision treatment, including preventive care. Democrats in Congress are right to try to finally fix this problem, via their proposed $3.5 trillion budget. Because standard Medicare rarely pays for dental care and reimburses nothing at all for hearing and vision exams, eyeglasses or hearing aids, many Americans over 65 enroll in Medicare Advantage plans, administered by private insurers, that cover these services. Others buy supplemental insurance or rely on Medicaid to pay for dental, hearing and vision care. But even these strategies can leave beneficiaries paying almost as much out-of-pocket as people with no supplemental coverage." www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2021-07-15/medicare-needs-to-cover-dental-hearing-and-vision-care

Welp, this will be popular with older moderates - even those who have scrimped and saved and done without to pay for their own dental and vision care in retirement. Because it rights a wrong. We should already have been providing those things for our seniors.
Compare with the same older moderates who fail to recognize that retroactively helping people pay for college through loan forgiveness also rights a wrong. We should never have let public school college tuition get this out of hand, while simultaneously pushing the narrative that everyone must go to college or some kind of post- secondary training to be prepared for a career.

Preventative dental care will also reduce emergency room visits and health care costs. So many people end up in an ER because they can’t afford a dentist.
I know the Senate Republicans refused to budge on funding infrastructure through corporate taxes and raising taxes on those earning over $400,000. I hope the Democrats only bill includes both.

It would be such a huge help for my elderly mom if those things were covered or at least partially covered. She spends so much money each year out of pocket. Even Republicans who are old and on fixed budgets have to welcome the assistance.

Yes, dental and vision insurance in this country is pretty awful. There are many people here that go to Tijuana for dental procedures because of the cost. And even if you have dental insurance, it doesn’t pay for much. I don’t know why they don’t consider dental/eye/hearing as important as the rest of your body.

I don’t know why they don’t consider dental/eye/hearing as important as the rest of your body. I haven't understood this for DECADES. Mental health care used to be the same, before Obamacare: www.healthinsurance.org/obamacare/how-obamacare-improved-mental-health-coverage/Americans are beyond belief when it comes to paying attention to the things that matter. "Health care doesn't include brains, teeth, sight, hearing." Americans - *crickets* But ask about the Kardashians or Britney Spears and they're all up to date.

Imagine where America could be without the millstones of idiocy and superstition around its neck.
