My 15-year-old has been in a magnet program since second grade. Two years ago, when he was in eighth grade, three of his classmates died in a car accident (the father of one of the children pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide). This year, he has lost two classmates to suicide. Two days ago, one of his other classmates was reported missing by his family, and we have been watching for updates; yesterday, his body was found in a popular local lake (he had gotten off the bus nearby to go the library and it is at this point unclear what happened).
It is a lot for one community, even in a city this size, particularly with the past year of closed school and isolation. None of these kids were particularly close friends of his, but it is pretty terrible (he has a therapist and is pretty good about sharing his feelings with me, so I think he is OK, but it is really a lot of horrible stories to be dealing with in a short period of time).

Wishing you DS peace while he sorts it all out. May your community and school have comfort during the healing process.

Ugh, that is a lot of loss for anyone, met alone a child.
My school (500 or so kids a day most have gone to school together from elementary to high school) lost 3 students in 4 years. It took its toll on them and the teachers. It is hard to process that much loss.

I'm so sorry. That must hard for the adults of your community, never mind the kids. Huge hugs to you all.

Such a lot of tragedy for your son and his classmates, and the community, to have to deal with.

I’m sorry. That is a lot of death to experience at such a young age. I still remember the classmates who died or were severely injured while in school. Their deaths had an impact on me even though I wasn’t close to all of them (I was close to 3). I’m glad your DS has people to talk to and wish your entire school and community strength.

That’s quite a bit of loss and in horrific ways. Life can be so hard sometimes.

I'm so sorry. Sending thoughts to the community.
But more important than that, hoping good counseling is available to all in need or pain.

I’m so sorry. That’s so difficult for the kids to process. My oldest has had two classmates die over the past couple of years — one in a car accident and one had a tree fall on the car as they were driving home in a thunderstorm. They are so young to have to deal and process death
