No different from a lot of others in many sports like gymnastics where they’re constantly hoiking down a wedgie.

IMHO - yes they are too short. But, really?! in this day, we have SO many more, very serious, deadly things going on right now to be concerned about.

They look like volleyball shorts or men’s swim suits. Doing long jump they might ride up her butt a little bit but I haven’t seen her move in them so I don’t know if they have silicone around the leg holes to hold them in place. I know why they wear as little as possible Because a tenth of a second matters at this level, my daughter does track and she switched from the team shorts to Nike pro compression shorts and her times improved.
I hate the double standard. I’ve seen men wear itty bitty speedos and no one complains.

Too revealing for whom? The misogynistic men who insist on sexualizing every part of a woman's body outside of any sexual context? It's just a butt. Ass cheeks. Voluptuous and strong glutes.

I saw this story earlier and am incensed on her behalf. If what the athlete is saying about officials not being allowed to comment on their outfits, the official overstepped her role. I mean she has worn this style for years. Good thing the official doesn't work on the diving competitions.
A neighbour has daughters that run track and a few years ago she told of a meet where one of the other mothers waited until the girls were in the start line to complain about the shorts. The same same style of shorts a well known British athlete wore. Of course, the mother achieved her aim, the athlete she complained about and who was questioned on the start line was put off her preparation and the complainers daughter won.

I will say it again…people who are concerned about the bodies of others are the perverts. They focus like a laser on other's bodies and genitals. They are not sexually normal nor sexually healthy.

I think I would find those shorts uncomfortable. But if the athletes like them, male or female, I think they should wear them.

These are high-waisted bikini bottoms. No one would give her a second look if she were next to a body of water. I am angry for her.

This is a non-issue to me. If she was in a pool or playing volleyball we wouldn't be talking about it.

Meanwhile, the Norwegian women's beach volleyball team has been told that they can't wear shorts - bikini bottoms only.

In the Ancient Olympics the athletes completed nude to show off their physique to the Gods. They would consider us prudes! It's very hot here in the UK atm and the thing that comes to mind is, omg, the sunburn.

I believe she wore those for attention. And she's getting it. For real? I guess Kate Walsh Jennings and Michael Phelps did too. Give me a break. Not everyone is seeking attention when they choose a uniform. They are choosing what they wear to help them perform. View AttachmentView AttachmentFor accuracy, that is not the suit Michael Phelps wore in competition. Fast suits are faster than speedos and have been standard for years - at Bejing they let the men wear even more material, but they've subsequently banned those as too fast: The one thing that confused me about the article in the OP was that officials can't comment/discuss the uniform. In most of the sports my kids have participated in there is a pretty detailed uniform code that has to be adhered to and you can be disqualified for wearing something that doesn't fit the code. My son swims, and he'll tell you that the boys all know that those incredible hard to get into fast suits have got to cover their ass - they check each other to make sure that it's pulled up enough. I wouldn't have glanced twice at the women in the OP as that looks pretty standard for track.

I think it’s just an athletic outfit and looks just like lots of other outfits athletes wear.
I looked up the clothing standards and they’re too vague here - the document just says clothing should be designed and worn so as not to be objectionable. It has more specific standards for certain circumstances but length isn’t specified.
I also looked up Olympic track and field uniforms for comparison to other heavily regulated sport and see lots of short shorts/bikini bottom type outfits. This isn’t terribly different to most of those.
All in all, I side with her on this.

I do not see the problem with her attire. She is wearing what makes her comfortable, and what also allows her to perform at her best. Critics should get over themselves. It's ridiculous.

Ugh! Seriously? What is wrong with people. If it's not your taste, no problem, don't wear it and don't comment on those that do. IBI UBU that is all.

Her bottoms are no more revealing that what gymnasts wear. Don't most Track and Field athletes wear similar outfits?

I read all the comments first thinking how bad can it be really? I was thinking it was like a string. Nope. Standard issue bikini bottoms. People really need to get a life. She looks healthy, she's not looking obscene or gross, ass isn't hanging out. Ugh.

Personally, I think your butt cheeks should be fully covered and hers are not. "Personally" being the operative word. Personally, I wouldn't wear them unless I wasn't my current self and instead, for instance, a fit athlete that would wear whatever worked best for me in my athletic endeavors.

For going to the grocery store? Not appropriate. For competition? Perfectly fine! If these are immodest, then I never want to see a man in a Speedo again.
And I’m a prude.

Meanwhile, the Norwegian women's beach volleyball team has been told that they can't wear shorts - bikini bottoms only. yes, beach volleyball ball has some (IMO ) odd rules about uniforms. I don’t think that the rules need to be that specific as to what bottom they wear, 2 piece swim/beachwear ought to be specific enough, some athletes might want more coverage why isn’t it up to them personally? But my opinion doesn’t matter so I’m not going to get in a knot about it. I do feel bad for teams who want more comfortable wear to be active in.

The official made a comment that was completely her opinion and unrelated to her job as an official. She should not be allowed to officiate if she cannot keep her personal opinions to herself.

I believe she wore those for attention. And she's getting it. After nine years. i think the official should be removed. They violated their role to be an impartial judge and assure the rules are followed by expressing an irrelevant personal opinion to one of the competitors.

As for the the OP article. Women have been wearing that style ‘shorts’ since at least 1982, when we got ours for High school track. I wasn’t happy wearing it then, and it did ride up on long jump, but not when running, I was NOT allowed to wear alternate shorts then. It’s LONG past time to complain about that style women’s track & field uniform. The horse has left the barn a long long time ago on that one.
