Freaking stupid radio host.... totally spoiled what I was going to watch tonight. Damn it.
I am pretty sure that is what that other Olympic thread is all about that I won't open.. haha..
I have turned all my notifications off, stopped looking at the news webpages so I can watch without knowing.
He comes on and first thing out of his mouth with no warning... blah blah blah...

Definitely the downside of such a big time difference. I almost liked it better back in the day when we could only watch it in prime time on tape delay.

I hate how we can no longer watch the Olympics without pretty much knowing what's going to happen.
Remember sitting down in the evening (or day, whatever) with the whole family eating popcorn and rooting on Team USA? Now it's just not the same. You do your damndest to avoid the news/social media etc but it always seems to get spoiled.

When the whole world is on a different time zone it’s very difficult for them not to mention the latest news though otherwise they would get accused of not supporting their own country’s team.

I get it.. it's gonna slip somewhere.. but he KNEW what he was doing.. he's known for doing crap like that thinking it is funny. It's for radio. I just couldn't get to the radio fast enough.. and I should have known better.. I totally wasn't thinking. Oh well. I still don't know exactly what happened.. so that will still be a surprise unless something else slips by..

Unfortunately I think you pretty much have to live like a hermit to avoid today's news.

I knew that's what today would be like, so I made sure I was up and watching it live on Peacock. I wanted to see whatever was going to happen and not have it spoiled. Sorry it was spoiled for you. At least this year, it's easier to watch some of the events live on different platforms that NBC is offering. It's taken some research to know when to watch though.

Argh that's aggrevating. They should still warn they are going to give a spoiler ahead so you have warning to lower the volume. That's not hard to do, my radio announcer does this.

I disagree. Most stations around here will give a spoiler alert so you can change the channel or mute. Now Facebook is a completely different story

Do you not have 24 hour radio broadcasts?

Do you not have 24 hour radio broadcasts? I think most people here (and I thought everywhere really).. are sleeping through at least 1/2 of it and off to work or whatever.. We know when to avoid the news. And usually they are good about saying 'spoiler time' before announcing what is happening. Or the medal count. It's on 24 hours.. but we are not on 24 hours. lol. I think the majority of us are watching in the evening after getting home. And definitely know what social media to avoid.. Facebook for one. It's easy to avoid but also easy to forget and you hear something... I just know from how I heard it the DJ is always spoiling something. And I should have known. I could go all day and not see a thing till I get home.

If for some reason I came on here just to browse around and saw something spoiled that would be on me for getting on here. I know this board and everyone is 99% good at adding spoilers to the title.. and not putting it on the title of what happens. But if someone did.. it would be on me cause I am poking around. I should have turned off the radio, but I didn't think about it.. and my stupid little ears picked up one little piece of information... maybe it is nothing. Who knows.

The best thing is not to even switch the radio on as there really is no way round it really. I know that when I get up in the morning that I am going to hear the “latest” news that has happened at the Olympics overnight. They’re 9 hours ahead of us. Does that mean us Brits can’t mention anything that has happened overnight on here because we knew what had gone on hours before you. It’s 5 pm here in the Uk ( Tuesday) and it’s just gone midnight on Wednesday in Tokyo.

My ds played rugby in high school. We were talking about the Olympic rugby matches and by accident, I let it slip who won the US vs Kenya match. I thought he knew and I felt really guilty for spoiling it for him, so I understand your frustration.

I can't believe how easy things are being spoiled this Olympics. I mean I can, but you know what I mean. My phone buzzed just before my alarm went off this morning and I looked at it and there was an alert about the gymnastic news. I remember the past few Olympics it seemed the news sources made some attempt to hide spoilers, now they're just wide open with everything.

It used to be -- back in the Old Days -- that we knew to watch the evening news on the channel that was broadcasting the Olympics because they would pause before giving the report and say "turn down your volume now if you don't want to hear". The few other stations didn't care and would just give the results which is why we didn't watch those stations during the Olympics. No internet, no social media... so that wasn't a problem. lol

So a couple of days ago, my alarm went off and the alert was about the Olympics and I was like "OKAY turn this off immediately!"

For those of you that get news report notifications directly to your phone - THAT is why the media does it. Everyone wants to know RIGHT NOW about everything, so Olympics coverage/results is not any different.
The only notifications I have on my phone are texts and obviously, phone calls. Everything else requires me to go check the app notifications/news/2peasRefugees ;-) myself. Just an idea. Go see in your settings what Notifications you have set. (Facebook, Instagram, News, Ads, etc.) It might be surprising how often your phone alerts you to something. :-)

thank goodness i don't mind spoilers. knowing doesn't ruin my viewing experience one bit. actually, i kind of like knowing what happened so far so i'm not tied to hours of watching because i don't know what already happened.
