Yes, I realize at more than 40 years old, I should probably know this, but here goes. I need to make a call or two internationally (USA to Australia if it matters). I don't want to add international calling to my cell plan or landline. I guess maybe a convenience store would be a good place to get a prepaid card? Any ideas? Thanks!

I was going to reply but since I don't know how your systems work it's daft but can't you just make the odd call or two using your landline without having to add it to a plan?

I have been using a company for years called Nobeltel. They are great, never had a problem. You can get a prepaid calling card for $20 or $40 at 2 cents a minute for calls to Australia. You can use any phone anywhere, just dial the Nobeltel number, enter your pin and dial the number you want. It's very easy to set up. Message me if you have any questions. I'll be happy to answer (not affiliated with them other than being a customer) Eta: $20 lasts me about a month but I talk a LOT haha! (Each call averages about 2 hours)

I pay $5 a month to be able to call Cayman on my cell. It saves me 100's of dollars every month.
Call your phone company and ask how much it would cost to add a plan and to make the calls you can always cancel it after a month.
Also can you use a VOIP like Viber to make the call? What about Skype, FaceTime or Vonage?

DO is currently deployed on a Submarine. There are times he is allowed to make calls home. Through many years of research we found the best international calling card for our purpose is through AT&T. I purchased and refill it for him on line through there site. The rates vary depending on where in the world he is, but it has worked well for us.
