I feel like kayaks in a lake are about the easiest exercise you can do other than walking. Much easier than paddle boarding. I think it takes little to no skill to get in one and go. We almost always take our pups and they make it a bit more challenging, but it is still really easy. We're heading to Granby, Colorado in a few days to go kayaking and mountain biking. I'm all for the kayaking, YES! I have had 4 major chest surgeries in the past 3 years, each requiring 8 weeks of no exertion recovery, so my upper body is pathetic in terms of strength and conditioning right now, and I can kayak easily in most conditions. That is why I really pushed my friends, even though they were so worried about whether they could do it. It is so empowering to realize that you really can move yourself around a body of water easily under your own power. I really wish that I got into it when I lived in Colorado Springs - it would be so beautiful to kayak in Colorado. Please post pictures if you’d be willing! 😍 IMG_4728 by Nancy Tim, on Flickr IMG_2798 by Nancy Tim, on Flickr The first picture is of the Catamount Lakes on the road up Pikes Peak and the second one is of our little lake that is a five minute's walk from our front door.

❤️ You’ll have to let us know if you decide to get a pedal drive! There are a number of fairly good less expensive pedal drive kayaks on the market now - they are hot. I decided to go ahead and spend extra money to get one that is made in the USA 🇺🇸, but it was really tempting to buy one of the ones made in China. It looks like LLBean carries a pedal drive by Perception that isn’t too expensive - and unless you fish, it has everything you need. Made in the USA. It also apparently is in stock! (Tagging dewryce) www.llbean.com/llb/shop/124305?page=perception-crank-kayak-100&bc=&feat=kayaks-SR0&csp=a&searchTerm=kayaks&pos=8I saw that one on their website and thought I’d go up to the store to check it out and maybe sit in it to see how comfortable it is (and save $99 on shipping!) but I called first and they don’t have any in the store right now. So I ordered it! Hopefully it really is in stock like the website shows (their online and in-store inventory is different). It will be an easy return if it doesn’t work for me. And I’ll get 4% cash back and used over $100 cash-back bucks on it too because I have their credit card. So I saved myself a short trip to Freeport and am sitting at the beach right now! I love living in Maine so much. Sitting on the beach today and will be at my camp on a lake tomorrow!

I was able to try kayaking once in Maine when on one of our vacations there (we've vacationed in Maine 4 times) we rented a cabin next to a lake that came with a dock and 2 kayaks. I really liked it but found it tiring to do vs. sailing-with sailing you just change the sails and let the wind do the work But it was fun. I was reading on the facebook group about St. John USVI yesterday and at one of the beaches you can rent-you'll never believe this-crystal kayaks-that's right-see through kayaks to use in the turquoise blue, see through waters! How cool is that? The person who posted the photos said it was a great way to see the sea turtles and other sea creatures. My thought was "yeah, but you can do that snorkeling too and you'd be even closer to them". Still, I'd love to try that just for the experience if we do go this winter. If not, I'll save the idea if we have to postpone our trip. I love that you were able to introduce your friends to this sport OP and that they enjoyed it. Being out on the water always reduces my stress instantly.

That sounds like heaven. ❤️ Congrats on the soon-to-be-yours pedal drive! 😃 Which color did you get? Even though I am in VA, we actually have a physical LLBean near me, so I love to go and wander around there for an hour or so. I love their customer service. I ordered a Thule kayak rack from them that was supposed to be in stock July 5. Well, I got a notice on July 5 that it wouldn’t be in until the end of the month and I could cancel if I wanted to. I found the same rack in stock at REI, so bought it there and cancelled the LLBean order. I wasn’t angry or anything, I know that the pandemic has messed up production and shipping worldwide. I didn’t blame them. Last week, I received a $50 check from them in the mail to make up for my inconvenience due to the shipping issues. It was a lovely surprise and completely unnecessary. LLBean will get as much business as I can throw their way.

It will be a few weeks before it arrives but I’ll keep you posted! We do love our LLBean around here. But I won’t go to Linda Bean’s restaurant across the street from the store because she’s a jerk. 😝

Oh yay!!
We did some kayaking on my brother's boat a couple years ago, and loved it so much we booked a tour when we were in California in fall 2019.
We just bought our own set and are dipping into doing it regularly around where we live. LOVE it!!
I have finally rescheduled a long cancelled weekend with my biannual girls weekend girls - and several of us own them, so we are all bringing them along. Only one of us has never kayaked before. She has bad knees (two replacements) and is worried about getting in and out. But we told her it is never pretty, and we will help her before we get in ours lol.
Love doing this!
