DS has asked me to bring cookies or brownies to a gathering planned for the evening after he proposes (side note - yikes).
Looking for ideas on how to make them fit the theme. I've done some buttercream decorating but it's been a while. Hoping for something simple like a round pretzel with a diamond type thing but my searches are only finding elaborate royal icing creations.
Other option would be to buy some of the fancy ones, but don't know a local source. Would appreciate ideas on mail order cookie sites, too, although I've only got a week.
Thanks!

I think it's LeaP that makes amazing cookies. She may have something.

Or what about something like thisI like those molds! That makes me wonder if I could do a small molded chocolate and place it on top of a cookie.

Cute platter! And it would be reusable, too.

If he is proposing and it will be a surprise, anything themed is not a good idea..
Might just blow the surprise!!

Instead of cookie shapes or molds, what if you found toothpick flags to meet the theme? I can’t think of the term for what I’m thinking of - maybe “cupcake flag”? Check out the Nothing Bundt Cake website for inspiration - they have darling things they just stick in the top of a regular cake.

Could you keep it simple with a scalloped heart cookie cutter and an iced date of engagement? Or simply a diamond shaped cookie? You could do Royal icing if you want it to look more professional.

This is really cute. I wonder if someone could cut out the words "She said yes," to put on a plate. Heck, if you used vinyl, you could alter the plate to say Mr. and Mrs. later.

Paper crafts are probably more my speed than edible ones!

As the fiancé I wouldn’t personally like a diamond theme - but I would like a heart or family theme.

i think the fancy themed cookies would be fun if you don't want to make something yourself. i know this place ships hayleycakesandcookies.com/ she will really personalize to what you want. but i am sure you could find someone more local.

That would be pretty. Do you know if royal icing is difficult for a beginner? Getting the consistency right is a challenge. Too thin and it runs off the cookie, too thick and it won’t smooth out and look pretty. With only a week to practice, I would suggest decorating the cookies with crusting buttercream instead. You can use a smaller star tip and keep the decorating fairly simple. There is a good recipe I’ve used from Lilaloa’s website here that you could try. The bonus is that many people prefer the taste of buttercream over royal icing anyway. Good luck with your event! www.lilaloa.com/2012/02/saltwater-buttercream-cookies.html
