There are FOURTEEN ICU beds available for ALL patients in Arkansas? 14 ICU beds for 3 million people? I'm sorry but no, nope, nuh-uh. How is this possible? Are they doing emergency transfers of Covid-19 patients to other states to free up space? One bad traffic accident and they're out of beds. This is bonkers. Hey that's a good number. 🙄 we only had 1 ICU bed day before yesterday. Oh and there is already one school district in eastern AR that has 54ish positive cases resulting in 900, NINE HUNDRED, students and teachers in quarantine!! That is Marion, close to West Memphis. I think they do year round schooling.

Nurses and doctors have been posting right and left on their personal Facebook pages telling people to be careful and mindful of their health. There's no place to go if you become critically ill. I'm home today with coughing, sneezing, sinus congestion, and sore throat. All new symptoms of the Delta variant. I did a rapid test today to be sure. It was negative. You take care. The negative test can be wrong. Be careful and go in if you have to, ICU beds or no ICU beds. I was going to say the same things. Take care and I hope it really is just a cold and you are feeling better soon.

Went to Walmart earlier. Big sign on the door stated that WM recommends everyone masking in the store. All the employees were masked, but less than half of the shoppers were, including parents with young kids. SMDH. I haven’t shopped there since March of 2020 without a mask. Willful ignorance at its very best. I honestly think I am angrier about the mask holes during the Delta wave, and the anti-vaxers are really starting to get to me. I may have to go into self-imposed hibernation just to preserve my sanity. Oh, wait, I have to go back to school on the 16th, and rumor has it that the school board probably won’t pass a mask mandate when they meet, also on the 16th. It will be hard to keep my mouth shut, but at least I will definitely be covering it with a mask!

The situation in Arkansas worries me greatly. My FIL lives there, and is fully vaccinated, but he is also 88 years old. Tonight on ABC news, it was reported that the entire state of Arkansas only had a total of 8 available ICU beds. I did not fact-check this, but regardless of the actual number of available beds, I’m sure the situation is dire. I’m especially worried because at the age of 88 (almost 89), my FIL maybe in need of urgent medical care for any number of reasons, and I’m scared he won’t be able to get care if hospitals are maxed out with COVID patients. DH and I last visited in October 2019, and have a trip booked to visit this October, but I’m worried this surge might affect our plans. We are planning to be gone for a few weeks, and would like to do some sightseeing in Northern Arkansas and Southern Missouri, but those plans may need to be cancelled. It’s really frustrating to try and make the choice that is best for us and FIL, even though we are all fully vaccinated. Yep. My husband’s uncle was just in the hospital from Sunday lunchtime through Monday. And by the hospital I mean in the ER the entire time. He was unresponsive when they brought him in and while they did tests on him…including a cat scan, heart scans, and the COVID test. The nurse administering it was shocked! And when he woke up he kept asking the same questions over and over every few minutes. His heart rate was vacillating greatly, going up to 140 when he was unresponsive. The doctor walked in and was basically like “you’re awake, go home” because there were no rooms in the hospital. Not no rooms in the ICU. No rooms in a big hospital in a large metro area. These nurses are right, please take great care of yourselves.

They’re building temporary hospital rooms in tents outside a large hospital in Houston, which has one of the largest, if not the largest medical center in the country. Or is it world? There is a heat advisory in the area, with heat index values up to 110. I realize they’ll have to have some sort of temperature control, but I’m wondering how well can they really work? And can they even begin to combat the humidity which makes it so difficult to breathe? I hope so. Either way, it’s a madhouse in many areas here.

dewryce That’s terrible about your husbands uncle! I hope he is ok now. That is exactly the type of situation that worries me about my FIL. Especially because DH and I, as well as my BIL live so far away from him.

He was in no shape to be at home alone! I imagine for your FIL if there was no one to assist at home they would try a temporary placement in a skilled nursing facility. How could you possibly make plans for that to try to be prepared? I hope your FIL stays safe and well and has no need for anyone to travel to him.

This sure isn't helping anyone!! Indiana doctor busted for peddling 'potentially dangerous' lies about COVID-19 to school boards Matthew Chapman August 11, 2021 On Wednesday, the Indianapolis Star reported that Dr. Dan Stock, a physician who went viral after he spoke to the Mt. Vernon School Board about COVID-19, riddled his speech with false and misleading claims about the pandemic and the efficacy of safety measures against it. Stock's most explosive false claim is that the COVID-19 vaccines are causing more infections, when the vast majority of experts say that increase is being caused by the more highly contagious delta variant of the disease. "My jaw kind of hit the floor," Dr. Gabriel Bosslet, associate professor of clinical medicine in the IU school of medicine, told the Indianapolis Star. 'He looked really credible and he sounded really credible. He used language that sounded intelligent... It's just the substance of what he was saying was honestly just patently false, especially the stuff about the vaccine.'" www.rawstory.com/dan-stock/

I was relieved to hear this today. Now I just hope that K-12 school boards follow suit. I was disgusted to see on the news tonight that there were a bunch of yelling, anti-mask sign-carrying protesters outside of the Bentonville (big district in NW AR) District Board meeting tonight. I don’t have much hope for my small, rural district, who won’t even meet to address this until after the first day of school.

I'm always saddened when parents don't consider the health of their children.

Just to add, University of Mississippi has asked for help. Federal disaster team arriving within a day or two. Other medical staffing too. They a building a field hospital in one of their parking garages. The director said they were facing total hospital system failure within days...
