Saw a post on FB about wrapping celery, broccoli and lettuce in foil to extend their shelf life. Has anyone done this and if so, does it work?

I do it with celery and it does work. The celery will stay fresh for at least 2 weeks.

My mom swore by that for celery. I don’t use it often so I have not tried it personally.

We find those things typically last one week easily for us, just in plastic food containers. The celery & broccoli will even last beyond a week. But I have heard the foil trick for the celery myself as well. I never heard it for the others, though. Foil sounds tough on something as delicate as lettuce to me. Unless we're talking a head of iceberg lettuce for instance.

I do that with celery. I usually don’t end up using it if I have gone to foil. I think it helps but I have found that cutting it up and putting it in a container with water in the fridge works better. Change the water every two days.

Wrapping celery in foil absolutely works. It lasts SO long! I see a suggestion up above about putting it in water, but you have to change the water every couple of days. I know that I personally would not keep up with that.

I wrap celery and cut cucumber in foil. The celery does last about 10 days before it starts to get bendy. The cucumber will last a long time but we always eat it before it gives out. I just give the cut end a little slice because it gets a teeny bit dry.
I have not tried broccoli but I bet it would work.
I store [cut] lettuce wrapped in paper towels in a zip lock bag. I can get more than two weeks from a head of green leaf storing it this way, and then it is easy to just pull out a piece or two for a sandwich.

I just started doing this with green onions, and they are lasting 2-3 weeks now without going slimy.
