When my kids were young, dinner was at the kitchen table six nights a week. On a Saturday, we would often have pizza in front of the TV, because that was when Doctor Who was on! Nowadays it’s only DS and me at home, and we almost always sit on the couch in the living room. The TV is only on occasionally, as neither of us watches much. My kitchen doesn’t have space for a table now, and I need to rearrange the living room a bit if I want to use the dining table. So the couch is the easiest option.

If we eat downstairs (he sometimes brings it up due to my pain issues) then we eat at our dining room table. But, we don’t have a kitchen table. Our downstairs is all open, one big rectangle at the back of the house with the living room on the left, then dining, then kitchen separated by a long bar-height counter. If I could find chairs I liked for the bar height counter we might occasionally eat there. But we like eating at the dining room table. When dinner is ready we turn off all of the overhead lights and try to have a nice, relaxing meal.

Usually Dh eats in front of the TV in the living room on a snack tray, I eat at the kitchen table. He’s a tv watcher, I’m not, unless it’s the news or some sports and then I may join him in the living room. If Ds and his GF are here, we eat at the kitchen table.

In the living room in front of the tv, unless I have guests. It’s just me at home now.

We have a small house so the only table option is a kitchen table. We rarely eat in the living room, mostly if we have pizza or during a football game.

Usually couch.. it's usually just me and DD who is 13. We will eat and watch a rerun of Gilmore Girls or The Middle (currently a few things we watch together).
If it is a little bit nicer meal we will eat at the table. If DH is home kinda the same.. If the two older kids come over the kitchen table as we are getting caught up on what we are doing.. or at the very least some kind of celebrity gossip..

I picked "other".
I usually eat at my desk....while reading/viewing email, message boards, social media, etc...
Sometimes, I sit at my kitchen table. A bistro table with two chairs.

My family sucks with family dinner.
DH eats in the basement in front of his computer. DS1 eats at the kitchen table DS2 eats at the dining room table (or in front of the TV if nobody is looking) I eat either at the kitchen island or in my office in front of my computer. (If I'm at the island I can see/talk to both of my children at their respective tables.)
We eat together as a family for holidays.

At the kitchen table. If the weather is nice, we’ll eat outside. Growing up my mom would turn off the tv at dinner time. I usually did the same with my kids.

On the couch but once our son is old enough to eat solids we will have dinner at the table as a family. We have a dining room and a table and everything it just acts as the catch all for “stuff” right now.

It’s just 2 of us usually and we often eat later than is ideal because of Dh’s work so I’ve usually been watching tv before he gets home - and so that’s where we sit when I dish up 😊

We do a mix of table when everyone is eating (I’ve been doing some fasting), outdoor table on deck weather permitting, and sometimes we hole up in front of our respective tvs.

At the 'breakfast room' table most nights. I do love to set the dining room table though for company or special occasions. We also like to eat outside on the screen porch or poolside when the weather permits - definitely too darn hot for that to be enjoyable right now.
No TV when we're eating almost all the time. We will make an exception and take plates to the family room for sporting things mostly like the Olympics or some big game. There's no TV even visible from a table except for the one on the screen porch. I'm just not a big TV person in general. I can go days without even turning it on when my husband isn't home.

Other - I do not eat dinner. Usually get home too late and now programed to eat a decent lunch, even on weekends.

we've always eaten at the table whether it was a kitchen table or a dining room table both when I was a child and throughout my adult life. Right now we have breakfast/lunch at the kitchen table (we have a breakfast nook) and dinner is at the dining room table. Our previous house, the kitchen and dining area were continguous and we just had the one table there. The house before that, we just had an eat-in kitchen, no dining area.
The only time we eat in front of the TV is on New Year's Eve when I set up an appetiser/dessert buffet on the dining room table (this year it might be in the breakfast nook) and we snack while watching a Christmas movie

I said on the couch, but with a baby, I should have put Other: Standing up, in the kitchen.
We don’t have room for a dining table because of the way the previous owners idiotically renovated the house. We need more room, bad.

We haven't furnished the screen porch yet but it won't be visible there either. I don't think I've watched TV since last New Year's Eve when we watched our family Christmas movie. Dh is really the main TV person - the girls are watching a show on fridays but that's all the TV for them as well.

It's funny because we're a really close family but we just don't eat dinner together. I make dinner but we all eat at various different times given work schedules. So I just keep things warm and people eat when they can and where they feel like it. If my two launched daughters are home, we all eat together. And definitely holidays; but every day meals? We don't. I tried to do family meals when the kids were young and they did all eat together, but my dh's work schedule was so nuts, he would rarely make it - which is interesting because his family was like the Cleavers: you could set a watch to the whole family sitting down at 6:00 together.

When the kids were living at home, we tried to eat as a family at the dining room table as much as possible... as they got older and in to sports/activities, it wasn't always possible but we still managed at least 4 days a week.
Now that we are empty nesters, it's dinner in our recliners in front of Jeopardy! Dining room table is seldom used.

We always eat together at the table.
I don’t allow food anywhere other than the table.
I just got new living room furniture and I have kids. If I want the furniture to stay nice, we eat at the table.
We only have one table, though. What I guess is supposed to be the dining room is our music room with a piano and drum set. My kids take their music lessons and do practice in there.

Before kids: On the sofa in front of the TV
With small kids: At the kitchen table with an easy to clean floor ... because food would be tossed over the edge of the high chair!
With older kids: In the dining room because it is more spacious and comfortable
Now: I'm single and live alone and my kitchen table faces the family room and TV so I eat there ... best of both worlds!

When the kids were living at home, we had dinner at the table every night. A few times a year I’d let them watch a movie and eat dinner, but spills inevitably happened. We never watched TV, we just talked about our day or current events. Now that the kids are out of the house, DH and I usually eat in front of the TV and watch the news. DH doesn’t get home until about 7:30pm, so our day is almost done.

At the kitchen table. If the weather is nice, we’ll eat outside. Growing up my mom would turn off the tv at dinner time. I usually did the same with my kids. Ditto. Dinner is very important to us. Hubby won't get home until later tonight but I will still come over to the kitchen table and sit with him. And when the kids are in town, dinner (and all meals) are at the kitchen table. Same growing up too. Two of my girls and I were just with my parents at their house last week. Some of the best memories are made at the kitchen table talking and sharing.

I eat at my dining room table every night. Jeremy eats there about twice a week. The rest of the time he eats on the couch in front of the tv. I don't mind this. I usually pea or Facebook while I'm eating. I don't watch TV very often.

90% of the time at the dining room table. Occasionally at the kitchen island, but I don’t love the stools there. Thursday night is pizza night and we eat in the living room and watch television.
I grew up only ever eating at the dining room table. I love our pizza nights in the living room!

We eat all meals at the kitchen table, except for pizza night. Whether we have pizza once a week or once a month; whether we make it at home or order it out, my kids always eat pizza on a picnic blanket on the living room floor watching TV, while DH & I either enjoy ours at the kitchen table on our own, or join them if we have something that we're watching as a family at the time--be it an actual show, or just a new movie we're all interested in. (But DH & I eat on the sofa. )

We have a kitchen/dining/living great room, and have one dining table in there (I legit don't understand having like four different places to eat in the same large room). That's where we eat every meal.
I had no idea so many people eat meals on the couch. How does that work, like if you need to cut something?

When my kids were younger we had family dinner every night at the dining room table. As they got older and got into sports/dance/etc. we still have family dinners there but not every night. Then later when they were in college we started eating with the news and Jeopardy. We still do that, and rarely all sit at the table anymore even when everyone is here. It's just easier to sit in the living room. When ds, his fiancée and her dd were here we still sat in the living room, but not usually with the TV on. It's just more comfortable.

We don't have q formal dining room as our level is all open, but there is a section we use as our dining room.
We eat at the table 85% of the time
