My DH had his Facebook hacked. He’s not showing up at all in my friend list or even when I search his name in Facebook. He’s been trying to recover the account, but the hacker changed the email, phone, and added 2 factor authentication.
Has anyone dealt with this level of hacking and was able to recover their account?

You have to contact Facebook. Good luck with that. A friend never got hers back

A friend did but was never able to recover the account. Another friend was.
Lately, within the past week and a half, someone tried to hack my IG, Snapchat, and Facebook. I have them all set up with 2 factor ID and harder passwords now (even though the attempts were unsuccessful).
Someone hacked my Evernote and like a fool i had had a photo of passwords on it. Luckily, it was old and most were outdated, but i deleted that account since it kept saying someone was accessing it from all different places like Russia, Turkey, Thailand, etc. despite changing pw and setting up 2 factor ID.
Ugghh i hate having all these different passwords for everything!

He tried but it won’t let him login because the hacker added the 2 step verification so the code is going to him. What a mess!

My daughter just lost her acct. 2 days ago. The hacker did the same thing... changed her email, her password etc. As it happens, it was my daughter's fault that she couldn't recover her acct. She received an email from FB asking her if the changes were being made by her. They posted the "new" email address and she was to verify that this was her true email. She read all this at 5:00 in the morning and only noticed her usual email address but didn't take note that the last part of the address had been changed to a hotmail address. Bingo. Her acct. was forever lost to her. Whoever stole the acct. then immediately deleted it. I had never paid particular attention to my security setting so after this happened I went in and hard set my settings. Hopefully, I won't ever have to save my acct. but I now have ways to be secure. I'm sorry about your husband's loss. I hate hackers!

My son's account was hacked a few months ago. He said he tried to get it back but it became more hassle than he had time for. They had just moved to Idaho and between the move itself, setting up and buying new furniture for the new place, and changing the address on all of his accounts and paperwork, he just gave up. I used to just quietly check out his Facebook, when I needed a kid fix, but now I have to text him to have him send me photos. He just laughs at me when I have what he calls my "mother moments" sigh.

I’m going to seriously be so upset if he can’t get it back. He’s such a proud papa and a great writer. He has been the one that has told all the great family stories since our kids were little.
Why would a hacker take an account and then delete it. I don’t understand?

Why would a hacker take an account and then delete it. I don’t understand? In those cases, it’s often someone who knows the person and wants to cause them problems.

I had mine hacked about 12 years ago. I contacted Facebook. It took about a month for me to get it back.

Has anyone dealt with this level of hacking and was able to recover their account? I know of a ton of people who have had this happen. My son just quit Facebook after his got changed. He never used it anyway. My sister ended up just creating a new account. My friend was determined to get hers back. It took several months and a lot of back and forth for her to get hers changed back. My son said it was his own fault. He was too lax about using the same password. He had set his up in college and he said he had used the same password on a lot of things then. So - keep that in mind going forward, and for anyone else who reads this now. Use unique passwords and change them often. If you have used a password on something that got hacked like Uber, etc - and that password has been used on Facebook or anything else, consider it compromised. It is on the dark web, just waiting to be used. I keep my banking and anything financial pretty isolated. Unique email address and regular password changes. I never use any of those for signing up for ANYTHING else - apps, websites, etc. It's a pain, but much less than trying to recover from getting hacked.

I believe he finally had to get on an actual computer and fill out the form on Facebook. He had to provide a picture of his ID. I can ask him more later this evening.

I had a page for my dog (haha) and it was hacked and I couldn't get it back because the changed the email and password and the only other way I could verify--a driver's license--was obviously not going to happen. They went in and deleted everything, but edited photos and posts so it looked like her friends had liked the posts. Seems like so much effort to take over a page that had 50 friends, most of who dumped the page when I let them know about the hacking. I was the saddest about the fact that i had some fun messages from a friend who has now died and I'd have liked to have been able to read them again. I hope things work out for your dad.

My acct was shut down in Feb/Mar. Hacked and then shut down for community guidelines violations. I was never able to get a hold of any kind of support. I had to use a different email to create a new acct. Very frustrating. Good luck!
