Update: Well I’ve moved stuff, done some purging, added large storage pieces (Kallax, Alex drawers and tables) and cleaned. Now it’s time to sort embellishments and break down old SC kits.Like 2012 old. Holy tomatoes Batman I have a ton of things to sort and decide on their new homes. I’ve been taking pictures of the disaster/reorganization. I’ll have to add those.
I’m doing the stamp organization/cataloging last. I’m going to need more wine or chocolate or both by then!
Original post- My basement scrap area has always been a hodge lodge of stuff. I started organizing some at the end of last year. Today I picked up an other Kallax and need to organize my “small stuff”
I’ve scrolled through Instagram and have saved some favorites.
I’m going to sort my PL cards by color and then some sentiments/sub groups. (Food, travel, journaling…). I’ll likely do something similar for my stamps.
I’m looking for ideas on how you (or scrappers you follow) sort and store die cuts, labels, chipboard…I have so many partial kits to break down an separate/store.
So hit me up with some links or ideas! This will take a while to work through. My job gets in the way M-F!

My disclaimer is I don't have a massive stash, which is why this method works for me.
I keep travel and Christmas in their own categories, with everything (except paper) stored in one drawer.
I keep all my die cuts, labels, chipboard, and other mostly flat things in small containers in a set of drawers that sit on my desk. I have the labels separate from all the other pieces because I use them a lot, and I keep them in the same drawer as my 3x4 and 4x6 journaling cards because in my brain they are a journaling thing.
I also keep my floral pieces separately as I found I wasn't using them when they were stored in with all the other die cuts. They're in an SC documenter kit zippered pouch, mostly because I have too many to fit into any of the containers I keep my other embellishments in.
All those other mostly flat things are kept in small containers by colour. I use die cuts, stickers (I cut up my sticker sheets after I've used them a few times and no longer reach for them for every page I make), chipboard, acetate pieces, felt pieces, puffy stickers, etc interchangeably.
The only other exceptions to this are all the animals, birds, butterflies, which I put into one container. It turns out I have quite a lot of them and I generally think of those in terms of "I want a critter" rather than "I need something pink, oh this flamingo will do". The other exception are the super specific pieces (think tents, clocks, work, weather icons, phones, typewriters, robots, etc) because I could never remember what colour the pieces were so I could never find them. I also leave this container on my desk so I rummage through it pretty regularly which helps me keep it somewhat under control, although it would also help if manufacturers would stop including such specific iconography in their everyday collections.
Ultimately, the way you look for things is going to have a big impact on the best way to store them. I've seen heaps of people do the colour binders like Janet from RTS, but the idea of taking all the time to prep the blank pages, then stick every die cut and sticker onto those pages, and then the tearing of the backing pages (and probably the die cut knowing my luck) is just way more effort than I want to put into a storage system, but the thought of rummaging through a container might be a block to your process.

Personally, I don't like having stuff out on my desk. I don't have a huge desk and I have to use it for my iMac, Cricut and have space to work so I keep my desktop relatively clear and use Ikea Kallax units and a cart/trolley to organise my supplies. I use these Sistema split storage containers for labels. I've organised my labels by colour in this way for a while and it works well for me. I cut all my own labels on my Cricut so they're all the same style, just different colours. I have two of these containers - one for blue & green tones, one for pink/yellow tones. You could have as many or as few as you need and pull out the container that works for your project. I use 6x4 photo cases similar to these to organise embellishments by category. If you choose to organise in this way, the categories you decide on will depend on how your brain works and the size of your stash. I labelled them both with my Dymo label maker. I like mini plastic crates like these in my cart/trolley to organise chipboard, kits etc. I imagine you guys can get something like this in Target in lots of colours. I wasn't really sure how I could use my cart to it's full potential until I bought these. I've found they fit perfectly and provide an area to store things that I want to be able to see easily whist crafting. For example, I have one with chipboard as I use chipboard all the time. So when I'm crafting, I can just pull it onto my desk and flip through and pop it back into the cart when I'm finished.

I think the key as the others have said is to think about how you look for stuff. I look for paper by colour and embellishments by either theme or type - so that's how I organise them.
Stickers/die cuts/emphemera - are stored in file folders (in a file box) by theme once I separate from their kits (or if bought separately). A couple of bigger themes are stored in 3-drawer units on top of my paper cubes (travel, Military, Girl Scouts, Christmas)

I so agree with Karen that organizing should follow how you think about use. Do you think “I need a blue embellishment?” Or “I need a sticker?” and it might be red or blue? The first way you’d keep different types of things together by color. The other way you’d separate by type of supply. Since you picked up another Kallax, if you’d like to use drawers for separating different supplies, these fit: www.ikea.com/us/en/p/pallra-mini-chest-with-3-drawers-black-10468163/They used to have more colors. They’re layered cardboard but I’ve had a few for years and they’re in perfect condition. You’d want to put bump-ons on the bottom so they don’t slide when you pull out a drawer. Two of mine came with them; one didn’t, but they’re very inexpensive. I like that I can pull a drawer out to look through it, though mostly I don’t. Or if you’ll put things in bins, you can separate the Kallax cubes with something like this - I have reams of cardstock and paper on one: www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes-and-Gardens-Cube-Storage-Shelf-H-Multiple-Colors/40831071Or this, which has 1 to 9 shelves: thesteadyhandshop.com/products/adjustable-cubby-organizer-cube-insert-for-cube-storage-shelves?variant=39362465333332¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2019-02-13&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gclid=CjwKCAjw9uKIBhA8EiwAYPUS3Ihfd3qNXQsJ5AP5a0O2o_-xlovOuDuYtH2TyQanvxkxjjvLMtKN_hoCw0sQAvD_BwEKeeping in mind I’m a card maker, I have a drawer for enamel dots and similar. Another drawer is for peel-offs and stickers (used for things other than cards), One holds typewriter cartridges and ball elements. And so on. When you say die cuts I assume you mean paper die cuts, not the dies. My die cuts are stored with my dies in their pockets in two bins on a Kallax shelf. A piece of cardstock separates the dies from the extra die cuts. When I need a die cut I think of the category - sentiments, leaves, etc., and go to that category in my die bins. I also keep a small bin of small pieces of scrap cardstock in ROYGBIV/neutral order standing on edge to flip through for die cutting. Another bin holds rejected backgrounds for die cutting. So everything relating to die cutting is together. But before buying anything I’d pull everything out onto a table in categories to see how much you have of what. I pull in a folding table when doing this. And it may only be a couple categories at a time. It’s cramped, which motivates me to deal with it. : )

thanks for the ideas so far! giving me things to think about.
I'm definitely a color/sentiment scrapper. I don't think "I need a circle/square/etc" here. I think "I need something blue/red" or a theme/sentiment
I'm sure I have too much stuff - and too much SPACE - which makes it easy to keep everything. I do need to purge. I have a hodgepodge of bigger storage/organization items to hold things. 2 Kallax, paper cubes from michales, open cubes and drawer cubes from michael, old bathroom base cabinets that hide big things (this needs to be purged!) and rolling carts with drawers (one houses my sprays and paints.)
I've been picking up small storage options - flat refrigerator bins to go in my kallax, narrow bins to stick in the kallax dividers (the sizing is hard to find that fit properly) As I break apart (and finally use) PL kits (mainly SC) I need to figure out how to store the extra stuff. All those partial embellishment packs, chipboard, labels, etc. I'm going to start making a list of stuff to store/sort.

All those partial embellishment packs, chipboard, labels, etc. I'm going to start making a list of stuff to store/sort. It sounds like you’re totally on track! I’d just insert a step before or along with making your list. And try to resist buying more containers. (In the past I donated lots of containers because of putting the container cart before the supply horse.) Pull out everything in every category - it doesn’t have to be every category at once - so you’ll better see what size and type of containers are needed. What also may apply is whether you’re more a flipper or like going through a stack. My die cutting CS scraps are upright in a bin in rainbow order so I can see all colors. I wouldn’t want them flat on top of each other - but others enjoy rummaging through a box. (I actually do but it’s more efficient the other way and I don’t get distracted.) A bonus of pulling everything is you may really like 30 of the 55 things in a category or you may have 15 similar sentiments and only love 10. Keep a donate box by you. (And get it out of the house!) When I started die cutting I didn’t consider fonts for sentiment/alphas like I do now. Some of my dies weren’t used or stopped being used because I liked other fonts more. Seeing all the dies spread out in each category let me pull a bunch to give away and donate. I’ve purchased containers from The Container Store, a few from Target and a bunch from Ikea, which often has similar but far less expensive ones.

First 3 steps of organizing 1. Declutter 2. Declutter 3. Declutter
That being said I have color drawers with small baskets inside for most of my stuff. If I have a collection things stay together Until I'm done with it. I also have a few themed bins-Christmas, Disney, Birthday, etc. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

I’ve started filling a box with donation stuff for our schools here.
I have a rolling cart of drawers (an ikea knock off from Michael’s) to put together. Then I am going to move from one end of my area to the other to purge stuff.

I was just going to link her. She inspired me to redo sections of my kallax and I love it. I started following her a week or so ago! I love her ideas, I just have less stuff. I did buy a divider insert for the kallax (wine style) they were out of the shelves at my Ikea. I also have some of the michaels 16" cubes, one that has the wine style divider too. I'll see if I can upload to Flickr. I have some early storage set up pics. Last night I went through my partial SC documenter kits from 2020 and broke those up. Sorted cards roughly by color and theme. Just put the rest of the embellishments/alpha etc in a bin to sort later when I'm ready to figure out where all that stuff should go. Things I've learned so far...I HATE WASHI and never use it. I need to break up with SC at the end of the year. That's a new years resolution. New PL/documenter kit. That doesn't have washi. I want a fresh start for 2022. I need to see how people store those chipboard sheets from SC (Ali has them too). Do I leave them in tact and store in a bin standing up? Break them up into pieces and sort by color and hope the backing stays on? I'm not even close to getting to that part of my organization but I have so many of them.

Wanted to show a photo but they’re only on my devices/PC. Tried the URL in my SCS gallery, not that I post there anymore, but it wouldn’t work either.

Yes, I store my chipboard in the sheets and label them by month/theme (they're nearly all Ali Edwards). The SBTM ones I sort by month so all the "Aprils" are together even across different years because the colors coordinate. They are in Dragan (I think that's how it's spelled?) boxes from IKEA, they can be found in the bathroom organizer section.
I have some video walk-throughs on my Instagram of how I store a lot of supplies, they are saved in my story highlights under "organize" and "craft room tour." The chipboard storage is part of the crat room tour. My Instagram is @lindalovescreating.

Welcome to the world of organizing! I am Angel97701, and I am addicted hoarder of craft supplies. I do much better when they are organized and will admit that I go in spurts!
I will echo, organize by how you scrap. I organize by type . . . meaning that I have all my stickers together, washi tape together, patterned paper in collections, bling together and so on. I am not a "Scrap Rack" organizer . . . where all items of a color are in a huge scrap rack. Just wouldn't work for me.
I host the monthly organization challenge, and am known for having a "system" for most things, just ask gramma! I am no expert, but do what works for me.
My motto is, it should take no more than three moves to get to what you want. Some of my items take four but you get the drift. I also cannot store everything out to be seen because it is way to dusty here in Central Oregon!
I went through my flickr account and put all my organization photos into an album: Organization Album
I am behind on getting my recently acquired stamps and dies into the system, but most everything else is in it's home. As of late, due to life my craft room is not as clean and organized as it was in June of 2019. But the basic shelving system is all in place. I reuse and recycle, rather than purchasing made for scrapbooking storage. The purple and pink drawer sets are at least 20 years old! They've been re-organized on more than one occasion!
Good luck and purge as you go. Organizing is always time well spent as you then can find what you own!

...I’m looking for ideas on how you (or scrappers you follow) sort and store die cuts, labels, chipboard…I have so many partial kits to break down an separate/store... I organize primarily by frequently-used manufacturers (e.g. Chatterbox, October Afternoon, Echo Park), then by type. For each frequently-used manufacturer, the contents of ephemera packs are dumped into a Iris 4x6 photo case (& further divided into multiple cases by type - labels, journaling spots, frames, etc. - as needed); small sticker sheets are stored together in a tabbed section of a discontinued Clip-It-Up; 6x12 & 12x12 sticker sheets are in a paper holder. Likewise, supplies from non-frequently-used manufacturers are stored together by type in the same manner (e.g. ephemera in photo cases, small sticker sheets on the Clip-It-Up, large sticker sheets in a paper holder). Note each frequently-used manufacturer is assigned a color (e.g. Basic Grey = grey; KI Memories = lavender; Simple Stories = kraft) & every paper or embellishment container, divider tab, etc. containing that manufacturer's supplies is marked with a punched shape (often similer to its logo) in its assigned color. Supplies from non-frequently used manufacturers are unmarked. The color coding makes it easy to find all supplies across various storage options for each frequently-used manufacturer.

I like to organize as much as scrap. I'll admit it! I change three of my Kallax cubes around a lot. The other five have the large 13 x 13 fabric storage cubes that hold premade layouts, Thickers, chipboard and themed organized stickers. On the top of my Kallax I keep my typewriter and washi tapes. The washi tapes are neat and tidy, so I don't mind them being out in the open. I keep them in shot glass holders. I found one holder at Goodwill for $4. Spray painted it and raised it up so I could see them all. Washi Tape Storage by Nancy Tim, on Flickr

What also may apply is whether you’re more a flipper or like going through a stack. Good point. I'm a flipper with paper scraps. I bought a shopping basket like you use in grocery stores at a yard sale. It fits perfectly in the Kallax! Most of my cardstock is 8.5x11. The scraps are put in gallon bags or sheet protectors behind the full size sheets. My 12x12 paper are in vertical holders.
My motto is, it should take no more than three moves to get to what you want. I like that!

Some great ideas in this thread. I’m at the point of going through my stuff to purge. I don’t want to move anything to a new place until I start getting rid of stuff.
I started by pulling all my rounded PL cards into a separate pile. Those will be donated. I had used all my 2020 PL kits so those were consolidated into a bin for sorting later and the u used cards are sorted right now by color.
I should do some before pics.

I picked one of those up as well. Finding the inserts has been a challenge. They have to be exactly 4 inches or smaller. The container store ones are nice but pricey. I’ve picked up a few inserts at home goods. I need 3 more to fill the spaces.

Made my way through what I thought was my only paper stash and found a bunch of October Afternoon I hadn't even touched. I forgot how much of that stuff I picked up back in the day. Also found some cosmo cricket, MME, a ton of shaped paper (remember when that was a thing?) a bunch of old school SC including some basics paper (grid, dots) and quit a bit of basic grey. I apparently bought collections. Thought I was doing well (had even cleaned out my old armoire and old cabinets and purged)...then I found a bunch of kits I forgot I had. Way back I used to be on a DT for Apron Strings kits and had a bunch of extra stuff. Need to figure out what to do with those. I may break them up. All the collections are stored together in plastic envelopes. I have unused SC kits labeled and stored by month.
