The only thing I see this policy doing is encouraging people not to get tested.

Good lord. As everyone has said that will just mean no one gets tested and will spread it around like crazy cakes. I imagine their vax rate is dismal there, too bad they don’t start institute vax requirements to enter any public space instead.

What would be better?
Oh, maybe mask mandates, particularly in schools, better indoors everywhere.
Get vaccinated.

(except for the eventual larger costs associated with health care, incarceration, etc. But hey-- who thinks about the future and cost savings anyway, right? otherwise they'd wear a MASK, and get VAXXED.)

With that mandate, the only people who will get tested are those who are so sick they would necessarily be isolating anyway.

I imagine their vax rate is dismal there, too bad they don’t start institute vax requirements to enter any public space instead. Have you seen our miserable excuse for a governor? He won't mandate anything now; he's too afraid of offending anyone who may still support him. NOBODY supports him anymore. He pissed off the republicans last year when he went back on his word and allowed the legislature to change our state flag (HALLELUJAH!) and then all the push back from shutting down the state last summer. All he does is see how far he can stick his nose up Trump's ass.
And yes, our vaccine rates are probably the lowest in the country; Alabama might be lower but not by much. Our hospitals are overflowing. Our largest hospital in the state has had to set up two field units in the parking garage.
People won't get the vaccine, yet they're taking a livestock dewormer. Yes, a dewormer. for livestock.

I've seen lots of variations on the 'God would tell those who arrive at the pearly gates that he DID help them, by sending vaxes', etc.
But I thought this one was even more apt:
2 Covid deniers die and go to heaven. They ask God "Was Covid real? God says 'Yes'. Was the vaccine safe? God says 'Yes'. Should I have gotten it?" God says 'Yes. Your death was completely preventable'.
One denier turns to the other and says "I never dreamed how high up the conspiracy went."

Yes, jail is much less restrictive than just requiring vaccines.
