That is the impression the radiologist listed from the results of my DEXA. Anyone have it and can give me the low down on treatment?

Weight bearing exercise is the best non-invasive treatment. Cycling and swimming and even rowing don’t count. Walking, running, and weight lifting are all the best ways to improve bone density, or at least not lose any more.
The other option is bisphosphonates - you will want to talk with your doctor about that. I am on a bisphosphonate, which is also a bone-cancer drug, to prevent my breast cancer from coming back into my bones. It also helps with what chemotherapy and my estrogen-blocker have done to my bone density. I get an infusion every 6 months. There are a variety of bisphosphonates now, the method of delivery and frequency of dosage depends on the drug.

I just want to emphasize weight bearing exercises! My first test I was just under -1.0. Soon after I started lifting weights. A test two years later and I was closer to 0! And I did not take calcium supplements.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis several years ago and after breaking my femur, I was referred to an endocrinologist for treatment. I took a drug called Tymlos, a daily injection for 2 years.
I also started weight training and kept up with walking, which I’ve always loved.
I recently had a bone density test and my doctor was thrilled to tell me that my bone density has improved dramatically! I no longer have osteoporosis but osteopenia and am working hard to leave that behind too.
I have 2 shots a year to keep the levels of density stable, called Prolea.
I wish you the best!

I have been weight training and running since January, but I have an Achilles injury as of May so no running since then as I am going thru PT. I was actually kind of shocked at the results because I also take BioHT including estrogen to fight bone loss.

I have walked for years. When I was working, I did 2 miles each morning before work. I give that credit for not being in trouble with bone density. I am disappointed in myself for giving that up. I now try to get in 1 mile 3 days per week.

I was also diagnosed with osteoporosis after my first bone scan several years ago. My primary doctor said that isn't at all unusual for a woman my size (thin) at my age (late 50's) at the time. He agreed with me that the best treatment going forward was weight bearing exercise, and to continue the whole foods, plant based diet I'd recently started which excludes all meat and dairy. He also agreed with me about not starting any medications for it at the time.
Giving up dairy is the best thing you can do for your bones, and for many other parts of your health. I know it's the exact opposite of what we were taught throughout our lives by the ad campaigns like "Milk: It does a body good". The only body dairy milk does good is the calf it's intended for. For humans it actually causes many problems. From asthma (I got rid of mine when I quit dairy), to acne, to osteoporosis, and many other problems it does the human body bad!
Here are three books that tell the truth about diary: Whitewash by Joseph Keon The Cheese Trap by Neal D. Barnard The China Study by T. Colin Campbell
Sadly I haven't done any weight bearing exercise yet (have to get on that), but I stay away from dairy and use plant milk instead. There are lots of options-almond milk, oat milk, cashew milk (nice and creamy if you need something in your coffee), and so on.

I was put on a weekly pill after my bone density test. I also take calcium because it is in the vitamin D pill that I take.

I’m a bone density tech. Like others have said calcium, vitamin D and weight bearing exercise are what we refer to as the “pillar” of bone health.
There are a myriad of prescriptions for your bones now. Make sure you research and discuss the side effects with your Dr and make an informed decision if that’s the route you choose to go.

I have been on Synthroid (thyroid hormone) for 30+ years now. Five years ago my PCP recommended a Dexa scan because years of taking thyroid hormone may cause bone loss. The scan showed that I have osteopenia. Since I already had been walking daily and running 12 miles a week on the treadmill, she suggested I also take daily calcium tablets and Vit D. My last scan (2 years ago) showed no progression so I'm continuing with the exercise and calcium/Vit D.

I was diagnosed with osteopenia 2 years ago and go for a scan tomorrow to see how it's going. I've been doing weight bearing and vitamin D so here's to hoping that does it for me! Best to you and your bones!!
