I like to buy my kids a book every year for Christmas. They love it too and are often off and reading before we even finish unwrapping. I have gotten some great book suggestions from the Peas in years past so I thought I'd ask this year. I'm buying chapter books for my kids, but I have some nieces and nephews to buy for, so there might be a picture book or two involved. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

I'm buying the first two Judy Moody books for my 6yo DD. She told me the other day she's "just sooooo into chapter books right now" lol.

Equally cute for kids and adults, there are a few books centered on the Little Golden Books. I think the titles are "Everything I know about life I learned from a Little Golden Book" with one for Christmas and a new one about love. They are cute, sweet and I've ordered more than a few as gifts this year.

My very favorite picture book is called Giraffes Can't Dance. I love the message so much (everyone has something they are good at and everyone is special.) My almost 9yo still asks me to read it to him every once in a while.

How old are your kids? Chapter books cover such a wide range of reading abilities and topics... Love Roald Dahl (Mathilda, James and the Giant Peach), Beverly Cleary (Beezus and Ramona) for some of the younger kids. Judy Blume for slightly older ones.
Bill Peet books are a fantastic blend. More text than many of the early chapter books (lots of text on every page) and AMAZING illustrations and stories. DH and I loved reading htem over and over and over again!

Keep in mind, I have two teenage boys.
The latest Heroes of Olympus book - forgot the title as DS got it for his birthday last week and it's over at his Dad's right now. Save Rafe by James Patterson (a middle school book) Treasure Hunters (there's two in the series right now, I'm getting both) several Minecraft related books - some are "handbooks," some are chapter books.

I am buying my daughter: 642 things to write about.
They have two versions one for the younger group and one for the older group. After reading reviews I am getting her the younger version because the older one has prompts for you to describe your first sexual experience. Ya, that is not age appropriate!

My oldest may get a book from the Divergent series. We always give book ideas to my in-laws. They like to buy hardbacks. My parents buy paperbacks, so if it's one my oldest wants to save, we ask my in-laws for it. My 15 yr. old daughter hates to read, so no books for her! My 11 yr. old loves Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys.

My mistake. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Thank you so much for mentioning this! I saw it in Barnes & Noble last week and thought it would be great for my son. As soon as I got back to the UK, I forgot its title. I searched for ages on the B&N website and on Amazon, but couldn't find it. As soon as I read your post, I knew that it was the same book. I've now ordered it!

I got my niece (11) the Chaos Walking Trilogy. In my opinion, it is better than Divergent and the Hunger Games.

thanks for the suggestions. I do have mostly teens. Heck, by Christmas I will only have one child who isn't a teenager. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) My kids range in age from 19 to 10. So older chapter books are great. I think it's time to move my oldest son into adult books, but I'm not sure what to start him with. he has loved YA sci fi and fantasy, so he would probably enjoy the adult versions. I just have to find something that would interest him.

I cannot remember the titles of any of them. I have a gift set of Nicholas Sparks books for dd, as well as a few young adult books that I found on sale.
For my dad I am getting a book that is one man's personal history growing up Metis in western Canada. That is our heritage and my dad grew up in Manitoba. I thought it might be nostalgic for him and that there would likely be things that he could relate to and would find interesting. It is one of the gifts I am most excited to give this year and I really hope he enjoys it. He is very difficult to buy for. I 'think' it is called A Walk in the Woods, but I might be wrong.
I usually get dh some kind of non-fiction book but haven't selected anything yet this year.
I will look for some kind of historical non-fiction book for ds about WWII.

I don't normally buy books for people because I am never sure of their tastes, but this year I will buy Sanctum for my grandson. He just finished reading Asylum (the first book) for a school project and is anxious to read the second one.

I don't know yet. One of mine is a reader, the other isn't. Last year I bought the reader the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He liked that.
He is taking AP Language Arts and they are reading a lot in that class. The reader boy of mine hasn't been doing as much pleasure reading as he has in the past, so not sure if books are a good choice this year.

My son will be 13 by Christmas.
I got him the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid, newest Garfield 58. I pretty much have gotten him a new Garfield every year, he loves them.
I also got him I survived true stories. He really like non fiction.
