And how tall are you? And how large is your dwelling?
Today I realized what I have may be a tad excessive, except for that when I want one, I want one now, KWIM?
Two story condo, a bit under 1200sf. Iβm 5β 3β+
Downstairs: 1 single step stool under the kitchen sink 3 step stool in the pantry/wine fridge closet 6β aluminum ladder in the laundry/utility room
Upstairs: 1 step stool in the office 3 step stool in the master closet
I think I have a problem, thatβs 5 total π€ͺ I had less when my son still lived at home. I love it when he visits with his height and long arms.
How about you?
ETA: it might make a difference that the ceilings on the main floor are 14β and 9β upstairs.

We have twoβ one in the kitchen and one in my bedroom closet. π
Our house is pretty compact. The kitchen is more or less centrally located if anyone needs to grab the step stool to use elsewhere.

Ha, I think itβs time for an intervention! We only have 2, but I want another one for the pantry that I can pull out with my toe. Our home is 2 stories, 2400 square feet, and I believe in using all of my vertical space for storage. We have 2 fold-out 3-step ladders, one for each floor, and we keep them in a central location. One next to the fridge, which you canβt really see from the rest of our open floor plan, and one in the laundry room upstairs. Iβd love more, one for each area I would use it, but I donβt like storing them. However, I donβt use them all that often unless DH is out of the house, and he prefers it that way. I have lost my sense of balance so itβs often dicey when Iβm up there. But, to be honest, I didnβt use them much anyway. Iβm 5β4β and heβs 6β5β (yes, we look ridiculous together). We seriously considered having my parents make us a pretty white wooden stool for our wedding kiss , donβt remember why we didnβt. Anyway, when I need something I just yell out βtall person!β and he understands heβs needed and why. He gets asked for assistance at the store all the time, even in the feminine products aisle. They often seem a bit embarrassed, no matter what aisle. But he is happy to help and personally I think he gets a small esteem boost whenever it happens. eta: Ceiling height is 9β downstairs, and he canβt quite change the canned lights without a stool, but all of the other lighting he does. And upstairs he can reach everything on the 8β ceilings. So handy!

We have 9 foot ceilings. I'm about 5' 5" and have 3 step stools. We had only 1 until recently. I inherited it from my grandmother's house. My parents had 2 more like it so I brought those home when I sold Mother's house. I think they bought them in the 80's; I love those stools. They are so lightweight and still sturdy.
We have two ladders in the garage, one in the basement and now an extension ladder also moved over here. I'm usually the one holding the extension ladder for DH. The other ladders were mine from when I had my window treatment business. I'm very comfortable on a ladder.

Hmmm. I have a wooden one that sort of floats around the upstairs depending on where I need it, a wooden one downstairs that the cats use to get to their food station (otherwise the dog will eat their food), and two of the multi-step ones in the garage that I pull out for when Iβm changing lightbulbs in ceiling fixtures, painting, etc.

I am 5'4", two-story house, 2025 sq ft. I have 1 3-step and one 6' ladder in the garage, 1 3-step in master bedroom closet, 1 small single-step folded up in the master bath closet (I cannot reach the back of that closet without it and the 3-step is too cumbersome for that area) 1 3-step in craft room, and a small vintage Cosco chair with fold out steps in the kitchen. Total: 6

I am 4'11" and we are now in a 2 story house, 2900 sqft.
Downstairs we have: 2 folding 2-step stools 1 chair that has a pull out step (like the one my gran used to have) 1 small plastic folding step stool 1 wooden stepstool
Upstairs there is: 2 plastic Rubbermaid step stools 1 plastic 1Step step stool that the kids used to use to brush their teeth
This list does not include the folding 2 step stool that DD took with her when she went off to school or the aerobic step I used to use in my walk-in closet.
Thankfully, my DS is tall for our family (all of 5'8") and I utilize his reaching ability whenever he is home.

No stepstools. Iβm 5β 8β and DH is 6β 3β. We do have a 6β ladder and an extension ladder that both live in the garage. The former is for stuff like changing lightbulbs in recessed lighting, smoke detector battery changes, etc. Neither of us can reach with just a step stool (I think our ceilings are 9β?). The extension ladder is for exterior maintenance tasks.

2400 sq ft house. I'm 5'3" ish.
I have a 1-step stool in the kitchen for reaching the top shelf of the cabinets. There's a 1-step stool in the bathroom for when my grandson brushes his teeth over here (although he doesn't really need it anymore...but it will stay for the younger grandkids when they can brush their own teeth). Another 1-step stool in my craft room so I can reach the top shelves. And we have a 3-step stool that floats around the house.

One. I live in a small house and I'm 5'7". It lives in the kitchen so I can reach into the back of the top shelf of the corner cupboards which are very deep.

I'm 5'3" in an 1800 sqft single story house with vaulted ceilings. We have a bunch of ladders, and 1 2-step stool that is in the garage. If I want something in an upper cabinet, 9 times out of 10 I climb up on my counters. dewryce, my mom is 4'10" and my dad was 6'6" . Awkward for sure. In my mom's defense, he was 5'9" when they got married at 19. He grew a full inch in his 40s.

I have one. Iβm 5β8β.
Its main use is when Iβm decorating the Christmas tree.
Our ceilings are 14β, so we have to get out the giant ladder to do tasks like changing light bulbs. ETA: Iβm not sure if it counts as a step stool reading this thread. Itβs metal, folds, and has two steps. Is that a step stool?

2, one I use for a seat 20" with a fold out step.. The other is 15" with a fold out step. I have been forbidden to climb. So the second one just takes space. I do have 9' ceilings.

5β1β. 2 story house with a finished basement - so about 3200 sq ft. I think?
Upstairs - a folding 2 step aluminum step stool in the master bed room closet. Thereβs a plastic single stool that moves around the other 3 bedrooms as needed.
Main floor - a wooden 2-step stool in the walk-in pantry that stays there all the time unless I pull it out for the laundry room or kitchen. Thereβs an identical foot stool in my craft room.
Basement - none that I know of. Nothing is up high down there except some book shelves.
Garage - Thereβs a 3 step could be called more of a short ladder or tall stool right out side the door to the house. Easy to grab if needed. Also, my DH 5β10β has too many ladders of various heights to count. Itβs crazy.
So total count for foot stools - 5. Ladders - undetermined. Ha.
Being so short is the reason Iβm having a new set of a washer & dryer delivered tomorrow and the washer is a front load. I spend enough time trying to reach things in high cupboards. I donβt need one more activity where I need to climb up one a stool and risk hurting myself.

At 5'1", with a 2400 sqft house, I have a 3 step stool downstairs and a 1 step stool upstairs.
The old 2 step stool is still in the garage, along with a number of ladders. I needed an extra step when we redid the kitchen and extended the cupboards.

Iβm 5β4β and DH is 5β2β so we need step stools LOL. Our house is a ranch with full basement, total 6000+ sq ft is finished. Our ceilings are only 8 ft, so our kitchen cabinets arenβt terribly high. I can easily reach two of the three shelves in the top cabinet, and I keep rarely-used items on the top shelf. I have one step stool on the main floor like this: Cramer 1001-01 Kik Rolling Step Stool, Silvertone www.amazon.com/dp/B001GN7QWA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_V3NG74QN51A8Q2TSH9YE. The only other place I need it is in my pantry/mud room, and I roll it back and forth between the two rooms as necessary. I have a two-step folding stool in the basement similar to this: COSCO 11308PBL1E Two Step Big Step Folding Step Stool with Rubber Hand Grip, Gray www.amazon.com/dp/B0032JRVPI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2YDWWCJ2Y378P94QXY8Z. I will bring it upstairs if I need it in one of the bedrooms because I donβt like using the kitchen stool on carpet. And finally, DH has this almost-but-not-quite-a-ladder in his garage: HBTower 3 Step Ladder, Folding Step Stool with Wide Anti-Slip Pedal, 500lbs Sturdy Steel Ladder, Convenient Handgrip, Lightweight, Portable Steel Step Stool, Black www.amazon.com/dp/B087279HM1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_11CBGSE374ZDYRJTZFE5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. He uses it to access items on the higher garage shelves, and it is easier to maneuver than a ladder.
