What brand of manual typewriter do you own, or recommend? I am deciding between a Smith and Corona and a Royal. They are about the same price, and supposedly both work good. I have wanted one for years, and years, and I’m ready to just go for it.

they are both good brands - I'm partial to Smith& Corona simply because that's what I always had back in the day - my daughter has one now also

I only have experience with Smith Corona and not Royal... so of course I'm biased. My typewriter is a "portable" and uses different-sized (and harder to find) ribbon spools than a normal sized typewriter. Ribbon is pretty universal though, not like computer ink cartridges... so you don't have to buy a ribbon for a specific brand. To save space (and because it's portable) mine does not have a 1 key (you have to use the lowercase l, or is it the uppercase I, I can never remember) and one other key is weird that I can't remember off the top of my head. Other than that I love my typewriter They're fun.

I'm always tempted to buy one (with a cursive font!), but then remember free typewriter fonts require no space, hard-to-find ribbon refills, or white-out!
Hope you enjoy your (what's old is new again) purchase!

Hope you enjoy your (what's old is new again) purchase! This is true, they do have such good fonts available. I have always loved using a typewriter though, and I think it would be a fun toy/decor item for my office. I’ve probably had one on my wishlist for over 10 years, and decided to use some birthday money that I’ve had set aside to finally just go for it👏🏻😂

I have two Smith Corona's and an Underwood. I love them all.
