So I am thinking about asking for a food saver for Christmas.
If you have one, which one do you have? Do you think it was worth the investment?
How easy us it to get bags?
Is it heavy?
Easy to store or do you leave it out?
Any problems with use?
Please give me all the nitty-gritty about yours. Thanks!

I have one. Not sure the model but I've had it for years. I do think it was worth the investment, for me, b/c I do a big protein shop every 6 months or so at Costco or when I see something on sale. I can buy meat and freeze it. I don't think I've ever had an issue getting bags but I haven't had to buy any in a while so I don't know if supply chain issues are impacting supply. I typically wait for sales on bags. Mine isn't heavy but it used to live on my counter as DH would use it to re-seal chip bags. When I put my kitchen back together, I don't think it will live on my counter but it will be close by. I haven't had any problems, knock wood, other than if I'm freezing a lot of meat I sometimes have to give it a rest b/c it gets overheated.

I don't have a lot of nitty gritty. I have the handheld sealer. It is small and probably not the best for larger saves. I got mine primarily to vac pack cookies and other foods to send to my sailor on his deployments. I got the actual sealer from Target for about $20. I use the zip and seal quart size and gallon baggies. I can find those very easy at Walmart. I have not used these to save freezer foods so I can't say much on that. Or for using leftovers.
I am sure others with much more user experience will hop in. Most like the larger "laminator" size.

I’ve never use the attachments. I flash freeze soup and sauces then “zap” them. I buy the bags from their web site. Mine is on the counter and it’s not heavy but again it’s old.

I've had one for years - whichever model is available at Costco or BJs. I just use it for packing up meat in the freezer and it really works great for that. Just recently I made a burger I put in the freeze back in January and it didn't even taste like it had been frozen. I usually get the bags at Amazon because I can buy the rolls that I want instead of the variety packs at Costco or BJs plus it's a subscribe & save item so there's a little discount there. The machine is light and easy to move. I keep it in a closet because I only need it for about an hour after food shopping every other week or so.

I've had one for many years and have had a couple of different models. I use it almost daily and the only reason I bought a new one was because I put the old one in the RV. I'm not sure of the exact models but they have definitely been worth the investment.
I don't use bags. I buy the rolls and make my own bags. Lately I've been buying off brand rolls from Amazon and they work just fine and are considerably cheaper than the Foodsaver brand. I haven't ordered them in awhile but I've never had any issues getting them.
They aren't heavy at all and I leave it on my counter all the time because I use it so much.
*Edit- Not only do I use it for meat, etc. but I also use it to seal chip bags and things like that. They last so much longer and since it's just DH and I, it takes awhile to go through a bag of chips.

I have an older one and I store it in my pantry. I use it for poultry and meats, as well as soups and stews. My husband gets the bags at Amazon. Yes, you want one. Why wait until Christmas?

I have two. I have the big one but it's so bulky I hate hauling it out. I also have a smaller cheapie one I got off of Amazon thats smaller and easily stored in the cabinet where my storage containers are. Its so easy to grab and use and it works perfectly fine. Sometimes it doesn't seal right away and I have to do it again but it doesn't bother me to have to. The thing for me is acessibility, if its easy to grab I'll use it. Esp for things like a brick of cheese I got at Costco. I always take a while to use it up and vacum sealing it in pieces makes it last forever but if the sealer isn't handy to use real quick I just won't use it and the cheese winds up not getting sealed and going bad. So if you are like me, you might want to consider that. I only buy my meat at Costco so I have to freeze a lot of it when I get home. If I bought a lot of meat all at once (ground beef, sirloin, pot roasts, pork tenderloins) then I'll haul out the big mamma. I get the knock off replacement bags off Amazon as well. Is it worth it? For us yes because I do buy our meats in bulk so it saves me investment. Oh, and I don't vaccum seal the ground beef because I just put that in quart sized Ziplock freezer bags. I press them flat and it fills up the bag so no need to vaccum seal. They also store better and thaw quicker that way.

I have a FoodSaver that I bought from Costco when it was on sale. I buy generic bags from Amazon and have used it to seal meats, nuts, cheese, sauces, just about anything that I can’t use quickly. A few of the generic bags haven’t sealed properly, but I find that is usually due to user error… bag to full and causing a crimp when sealing, sealed portion was wet, etc. I went with the FoodSaver because of the longer warranty, but primarily because it was from Costco and I could easily return it if it fails.

I'm on my second Foodsaver from Costco. The first one lasted about 15 years, and I'm about 5 years in to this one. I picked it because, well...Costco made the choice for me. I use it more than once a week.
I buy replacement bags on Amazon -- I pretty much only use the quart and gallon sized bags and I can buy a box of 50 pretty cheaply. No problems with them whatsoever.
I use it to divide meats from Costco, freeze prepared meals (I tend to batch cook a meal and freeze a few), excess produce from the farm stand at this time of year (I love to freeze fresh corn, roasted tomatoes, and pureed squash for winter), among other things.
Mine is a little bulky, but I store it in the island cabinet. If I had a choice, I'd prefer the smaller one that doesn't have roll storage in it, because I don't use the rolls.
Definitely worth the price to me.

I have had one for years. I just started using it like 2 years ago! It was a gift from my parents at some point.
I started getting the bags at Costco - usually once or twice a year they have a good sale on a box set of different types of bags.

Absolutely it is. I bought some SouperCubes after they were on Shark tank to freeze stuff in. But you could use anything...pop them out and ZAP I order from the site when it's BOGO and it's the only place I have found the pint bags.

I love mine - got a Nesco after looking at a bunch of reviews and a video that compared them. Any bags or rolls can be used with any of them. I mostly use mine to freeze bread since we get about six loaves at a time, chicken that isn’t already in packaging that doesn’t let air in, ground turkey, sometimes stuff I cook. If sealing ground turkey I usually stick it in the freezer in the original packaging for an hour+ so it’s a bit hard so juice doesn’t want to come out the top of the bag. Using the gentle cycle and sometimes manual also helps with that. It’s a pretty simple type of machine so I bet most from good companies are fine. Here’s the video, made by Lisa and Hannah, the Gearheads, youtu.be/1d-0BFRUokoOh, it’s not too heavy, kept on a shelf that’s built into the kitchen counter on the side that’s for cookbooks or whatever. A neighbor has one of the hand-held ones that’s very small and likes it too, though she says she wants a full sized one.

Mine is 14 years old so I'm sure there are newer models but it is one of my favorite small appliances. If it died, I'd be ordering another immediately.
Bags were a little tough to come by in the shortages of 2020 but I think it is better now. Everyone will tell you how meat stays fresher longer and things take up less room in the freezer. True, but the thing I love the most is how fast you can thaw meat that is sealed in those bags. Just drop a sealed, frozen bag of meat into room temp water and it will thaw in far faster time than normal. I change the water frequently if I'm in a real hurry.
I have a narrow cabinet that mine fits in perfectly. If I had more counter space, I'd leave it out.
I love my Foodsaver!

So I am thinking about asking for a food saver for Christmas. What are you planning to use it for and will that be a change in your current food storage/management pattern that isn't working now? My parents used a food saver forever so when I was offered one I thought I would get great use out of it. It was one of the appliances I donated before a big move because it was used once in 6 years. FWIW, they would use it about once a month so it wasn't left out on the counter. They would spend an afternoon roasting and slicing beef, pork and chicken into meals sized packages for the freezer. It worked really well for them.

It worked really well for them. Right now I wrap my meat in saran wrap, sometimes double layer, then put that into ziplock freezer bags. With the food saver I can reduce my plastic waste as I won't need to wrap or double wrap my meats. I like to have a good stock of meat in my freezer. I also prep certain fruits and vegetables for use during off season.

I have one, we have had it for 6 years. Use it all the time. I don't know what I did prior to having one!
Bags I get at Sam's or Walmart
I don't know the model, but it is nothing fancy. It is not heavy, I do store it in the top cabinet on a high shelf so it is out of the way.

I’ve used a vacuum sealer for years and years. I buy bags off of eBay or Amazon. I buy meats, fruits and veggies on sale and freeze a lot of it. I’ve used frozen goods that have been in my freezer for over a year and it was as good as when I first packaged. I too do a lot of flash freezing before sealing. Never used attachments either.

I got one years ago and love it. I don't use it as much since it is just my youngest and myself home (DH travels) but it was great when we had five of us at home.
It was easy to use, supplies easy to get, not too heavy, store it, really never any problems.

The one I have is most equivalent to this one because my model is not available anymore. Foodsaver siteWhen I got mine I did some research and what I came up with is not to get one with bells and whistles because they are not necessary. The only extra feature mine has is the roll storage and I like it very much because it has the built in bag cutter. That thing is so convenient! I use rolls that I buy for a very good sale price on the FS website. It is my 2nd food saver and I will not go with another brand as I have bad experience with a no-brand one before. The biggest thing for me is easy access. I keep mine in the walk-in pantry. When I kept it in a cabinet, I did not use it as much.

I have one that I got at Costco a few years ago. I like it a lot. I think it is one of those products that only has so many bells and whistles and truthfully all you need is the basics. I get refills and bags at Costco but also use Lem’s. I prefer to get the rolls and make my bags to fit what I am putting in.
