It's election day here in Canada. Whoever you choose to support - please get out and vote. Masks required where mandated, but proof of vaccination is not necessary.
If you don't vote, you can't complain!

I saw something on the news this morning about protests in Canada...anti-mask? or anti-vax? I can't remember now, but it was mentioned along with the election so maybe it was protesting the mask requirement to vote? Anyway, I was surprised. I mean, I know every country has their own idiots but I always thought Canada as a whole was more sensible than what we have here in the States.

and thanks to the mail in ballots we're not going to get results until later this week anyway

A school had to go into lock down because the voting station was in the school. They were protesting at hospitals and received such bad press. Actually they get bad press anywhere. Nobody wants to go near them. There is crazy everywhere.

I voted on the first early voting day. Bit of a line but our poll booth number was moving quickly - the line was for a specific poll number and I don't know what the hold up was for them!
I will say, all the PPC signs have made it very easy for me to see who the racist, homophobic people are in my town. Ugh
My hope is for a minority, and that the NDP pull a few more seats so they can have some real say in that minority leadership because they will need the NDP to pass anything.

My mom did pre voting last week said she walked right in and by the time she left there was a big line...of 6 people! That's how crazy it will be when I go today, I've never seen more than 1 or 2 in front of me and 1 coming in.

I'm not defending the ppc or trying to start a huge back and forth. But the current prime minister in black face on seperate occasions isn't racist?

NOT defending his actions - they were disgusting. That said, it was him PERSONALLY that did that. His actions back then do not define the policies of the entire liberal party. The PPC platform is very much speaking for the whole party and what they stand for.

My younger DD turned 18 this year. We went after she was done work and registered her and she voted. Two years ago, older DD was 18 and voted in the provincial and federal election that year.

My MIL made sure she was back from Greece so she could vote today. I know it is still really early, but I have the CBC results page open so I can keep an eye on the returns.

so - over $600 million spent on an election to end up with essentially the same results we had before the election. Clearly money well spent

Although they might be referring to the fact --- the FACT -- that she won the popular vote. I'm sure the real trump-ites, and any of his ilk who live in Canada, think that the popular vote numbers were rigged.

What a giant waste of time and an even greater waste of money. 600 million dollars to end up pretty much right back where we were. UGH

DD and i went over around 1:30 to the high school across the street. maybe 5 mins wait in line. there were really one two candidates in my riding. it was either going red or orange. i didn't see a single PPC sign and only a handful of blue.
there was some crusty people though. older man with a can comes up. worker asks if he is there to vote, he says yes, early 60s guy says "hey, are you gonna make him STAND IN LINE?!?!"... the young man working there walks away with man with cane and comes back to say, "no, i wasn't making him wait, i wanted to make sure there was a seat for him when we got in". geez dude.
as i was leaving, i saw a woman without a voter card come in, young man says "are you here to vote?" and asks her for her name to add to his list. she tells him, he asks her to spell it for him and she says "it's HENDERSON... one of the most common and easiest names to spell for god's sake".
as she left, i said to the young man "well henderson is NOT one of the most common names in EVERY culture". he smiled and said "well my name is abduljabikar and there are several ways to spell it - voting is important and we have to get it right".
so while it went smoothly for me, the people that work there must pack their patience.

UGH The radio dj I listen to in the morning said well the was $600million for the NDP to get a few more seats. Complete waste of time and money. I do think voter turn out was up. I'm glad it was only 36 days glad the commercials will be over.

I went to the early polls and there was a great older gentleman working his name was Bob and he was a delight and wore a bright Hawaiian shirt. The volunteers ( do they get paid) are great and yes I believe they have tremendous patience.
