I have loved seeing the December Daily albums that others here have done. I’m rather envious. I love Christmas, but something bad seems to happen to our family every year that makes it extremely difficult for us to do the fun stuff normally associated with Christmas. Last year, DH had to have major surgery in December and ended up transferred to rehab on Christmas Day, so we had a very, very low key Christmas almost a month late, after he got to come home. He had a heart attack in March of this year that nearly killed him, and he is still recovering, so this year is not exactly looking encouraging as far as having a normal Christmas.
So I guess my question is whether or not anyone has done something kind of like a December Daily, but not necessarily associated with Christmas (and definitely not the frantic pace)? Perhaps more like a gratitude album, focusing on every day blessings and/or the happy moments of life, but kind of in the style of DD? If so, I’d love to see what you’ve done.

I do a DD every year but its not always centered around a Christmas activity or theme. I do the project like a month long WITL but with a single photo/story per day. I have stories of baking cookies on one day but will have the story of my son hitting the ditch with his car (he was OK) on the next. The 15th of Dec usually is a remeberance of my Grandma's passing, though I have some photos of her funeral from years back. I'll have pictures when I cater the community Christmas party and we do an entire dessert room decorated to the hilt. Or just a photo of the stack of movies that we like to watch that season. I go with the ebb and flow of things. Sometimes I stop at Dec 26 and sometimes I go till Dec 31. I never hold myself to completing it daily either. The only thing I try to do is take a picture or have a story for each day. I put it together when I'm able. I still get it done but I don't stress over it.

I would highly suggest looking into Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas (JYC).

What about a gratitude (or something similar) for the things you are able to have/do this next holiday season? It could be a 12 day countdown to the things you are most thankful for having in your life. The gift of time, family, memories, favorite decorations, food etc. That way they could go in any order and you could use the same idea as a DD with the countdown.

Shimelle's journal your Christmas is definitely a good starting point. You can do what you want out of her prompts or even look through past prompts to find one you'd like to do.
I also like the idea of a 12 days of gratitude, but instead of doing it during the 12 days of Christmas, spread it out over December so you won't feel overwhelmed.

I'm another who treats December like a month to capture daily life, more like WITL, including the everyday stories, not just Christmas. I regret not having a better record of our daily life and events, so my December album turned into this. Couple of reasons I still do December rather than another month: 1. more likely to have special days/events amongst the everyday 2. more likely to have photos - people are happier to pose for me in December. For example, I get pictures of my co-workers with their Christmas scrubs (hospital), or office decor, or potlucks. 3. able to use my hoarded and yet still growing christmas stash! 4. I have more time to keep a journal because there is less daylight! In the summer, I've tried to keep a journal but it doesn't work for me. 5. It includes my birthday

I believe some scrapbookers partake in the 30 days of gratitude project in November to coincide with the US Thanksgiving celebration. Not sure whether there is an official name for it but there gratitude/thankfulness albums out there that resemble the December Daily format. I've found the following flip-throughs on YouTube: ETA: Wishing your husband all the best on his path to recovery, scrapnnana. It can take quite a bit of time. I love the idea of doing a gratitude album and I hope you can incorporate some little Christmas joys into it. Christmas doesn't have to be big and bold to be a moment to reflect on everything that is good in life and count every single silver lining you can find. But I understand that you're mourning how the festive month used to be before all these troubles, of course. Sending you both good vibes. Please don't hesitate to jump into the December Daily thread. Many of us participating in there do not adhere to the actual December Daily concept and do a freestyle type of Christmas/end-of-the-year festivities album. Many of us will spend another Christmas without big celebrations this year either. You're more than welcome to join us even if you're doing a different project. It's really about fostering the spirit of craftiness through the Christmas period first and foremost. 😊

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and encouragement. I’m considering how to make this work for me. I’ve appreciated all the ideas and suggestions.
