Most of those songs bring back happy memories; I really enjoyed them at the time and I still sing wholeheartedly when they come in the radio. Except I never really liked Don’t Worry Be Happy, and I don’t immediately recognize the song by Taco. Are some of them terrible sings? Sure. But I still love them

I think those are just songs that were overplayed in the 80s. I dont hate any of them.

I love Don’t Worry Be Happy! It was so inventive, and always makes me smile. Wham would be right at the top for me, along with everything by Duran Duran. Except for The Reflex, I quite liked it.

I don't mind any of them, and really love some of them. I have a soft spot for Don't Worry Be Happy because I absolutely adore Bobby McFerrin. He's one of the most talented all around musicians ever.

I agree with this list. My husband insists on listening to the 80s station and most of it drives me crazy. However, She drives Me Crazy by the Fine Young Cannibals is a good 80s song.

i think it's all about what is your vibe. i liked pop music and alternative and while none of those were my faves, and i whole heartedly agree were overplayed.....
but anything but def leppard, most songs by rush and anything with david lee roth's voice would be my top ten. *shudder*

Centerfold Song by The J. Geils Band
I will always change the station away from that one.
Many of the songs listed are ok in small quantities. And some are really a part of good memories.

I like all those songs! Especially Mickey! I feel like we need more "cheer leading" style songs in our lives! LOL

At first glance, I agree with this list. One exception - I like "Don't Worry" and would replace it with "Sunglasses at Night."
"We Built this City" is especially bad when you compare it to the early days of Jefferson Airplane - Jefferson Starship - Starship.

When I first saw the title of the Post and saw that you were the author....I was like WHY? ?? Jenje? I love you...why are you trashing the 80's? Whew! I was glad to see that you weren't actually doing that. 80's music is my JAM! The ONLY one I don't like it "The Final Countdown". It's rare to find an 80's song that I don't like.

My new car has a temporary Sirius XM subscription. So I’ve been listening. The other day I was listening to the 80s station. First off, did you know Rick Springfield is now a dj? His tagline is “working class DJ”, he’s on 80s on 8. He was playing the songs from Rolling Stone’s 10 worst songs of the 80s - from a readers’ poll. Do you agree with this list? What would you pick to go on your “worst of the 80s” list? What would be on your “best of the 80s” playlist? www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/readers-poll-the-10-worst-songs-of-the-1980s-20488/1-starship-we-built-this-city-17392/10. Rick Astley - 'Never Gonna Give You Up' 9. Taco - 'Puttin' On The Ritz' 8. Toni Basil - 'Mickey' 7. Bobby McFerrin - 'Don't Worry Be Happy' 6. Falco - 'Rock Me Amadeus' 5. Men Without Hats - 'The Safety Dance' 4. Wham! - 'Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)' 3. Chris de Burgh - 'Lady In Red' 2. Europe - 'The Final Countdown' 1. Starship - 'We Built This City' I can’t disagree with this list. If I thought about it, I could add to it. There were a lot of bad songs in the 80s. The 80s for me was almost an entire decade of lost music. It was terrible. And the clothing was horrible too. There is a line in Dazed and Confused where the girl said the 60s rocked, the 70s sucked and the 80s had to be better. Everytime I hear that line I think of how wrong she was. And I was 5-15 in the 80s. It was my childhood. And I still think pop culture sucked.

I had a secret love affair for Roger Taylor back then. Once I saw John Taylor's video for "I Do What I Do to Have You" from the movie 9 1/2 Weeks.....I quickly forgot Roger. I had the biggest poster of them in my room. I had EVERY SINGLE album. I think Seven and the Ragged Tiger is probably my fav.

I mean you can't even compare "White Rabbit" to that song. UGH! I am a pretty big 70's music fan as well. Just lots and lots of good music in that 20 year span.

I’m with jeremysgirl in disliking most of the music of the 1980s. And those were my teen years. 80s on 8 never gets played on my Sirius XM.

The songs I do agree with on this list are "Don't worry, be happy", "The Final Countdown" and "Lady in Red". I am a huge fan of Chris de Burgh, but "Lady in Red" is definitely one of his weakest songs.
How anyone can consider "Safety Dance" one of the worst songs of the 80's is beyond me :-) I saw Men without Hats in concert a few years ago, and the song is just as good now as it was back then!
I LOVE THE 80'S, can you tell??

I Think We're Alone Now - Tiffany, just so many bum notes in that vocal performance it's embarrassing.
Walk This Way - Run DMC. Steve Tyler, blergh! Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder.
I've Never Been to Me - Charlene. Come Dancing - The Kinks.
For me the 80s had some awful music.

How is Eddie Murphy “Party All the Time” not on this list?!?!?!
Or Rodney Dangerfield with “Rappin Rodney”?!? Now THAT is an awful song! 🤣
I don’t mind most of those, but will change the channel on “Lady in Red” every single damn time.

Lady in Red is my number 1 worst song of all time except for Baby Shark. I haven't found many people who agree with me, so lainey I think maybe I love you. I don't mind the others.

I disagree with half of that list! These ones I completely agree with. 7. Bobby McFerrin - 'Don't Worry Be Happy' 5. Men Without Hats - 'The Safety Dance' 3. Chris de Burgh - 'Lady In Red'. ( I loved that song at the time, but listening to it now, it truly is awful) 2. Europe - 'The Final Countdown' 1. Starship - 'We Built This City' I would move Bobby McFerrin to spaces 1-5. That song was the worst then and I can’t imagine it aged well. I would also add Hot For Teacher Kokomo Love Shack Sussidio Blasphemy!!!

But then one time I was in ER feeling absolutely horrible and now every time I hear it, it takes me to that yuck memory instead of the good ones. So I don’t love it.

I guess I wasn’t listening to these types of songs in the 80s. I was listening to the Pretenders, REM, the Ramones, the Smiths, Romeo Void, the Fixx, U2, the B-52s, and others I’m pretty sure nobody’s ever heard of.

aww I love 80s music. Every song seems to bring back different memories of high school & dances & hanging out with friends. I had a great time in high school. Its hard for me to name any songs I really didn't like, even the not great ones have good memories for me
and lady in red was one of the songs played at my wedding....

We grew up in very similar communities near each other, but while my HS was drenched in Bonjovi and VanHalen, his was into new wave and punk. I'd never heard of any of the bands you listed until college, except maybe U2.
