My new car has a temporary Sirius XM subscription. So I’ve been listening. The other day I was listening to the 80s station. First off, did you know Rick Springfield is now a dj? His tagline is “working class DJ”, he’s on 80s on 8. He was playing the songs from Rolling Stone’s 10 worst songs of the 80s - from a readers’ poll. Do you agree with this list? What would you pick to go on your “worst of the 80s” list? What would be on your “best of the 80s” playlist? www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/readers-poll-the-10-worst-songs-of-the-1980s-20488/1-starship-we-built-this-city-17392/10. Rick Astley - 'Never Gonna Give You Up' 9. Taco - 'Puttin' On The Ritz' 8. Toni Basil - 'Mickey' 7. Bobby McFerrin - 'Don't Worry Be Happy' 6. Falco - 'Rock Me Amadeus' 5. Men Without Hats - 'The Safety Dance' 4. Wham! - 'Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)' 3. Chris de Burgh - 'Lady In Red' 2. Europe - 'The Final Countdown' 1. Starship - 'We Built This City'

To me, it looks like quite a few of these were voted “worst” because they were overplayed.
Personally I loved Lady in Red for the sake of happy memories. This was the one song we would always dance to, because of course I was wearing a red dress the first time.

I loved Wham and Lady in Red. Agree that Mickey was pretty bad.

Mickey was a horrible song, but so fun to do whatever to. Same with don't worry be happy. They are like YA fiction when compared to the literary winners.
The rest not one would make my top 10 worst. There is a plethora to choose from

Thanks for posting. I was listening , but only in the car for the first 2.
Some I completely agree with, but if 4,8, 10 come on the radio-watch out I’m singing at the top of my lungs.

I dislike "Jump" by Van Halen, because... The DJ played it about every 10th song, all day long! They'd play it several times at the skating rink, because everyone would jump on skates, every time the song said "jump".
It was overplayed.

I disagree with many of the songs on this list -- they were the soundtracks to my high school and college years. Instead, I will happily nominate "Our House (In the Middle of the Street)" by Madness. Completely and totally overplayed. And Africa. Eek!

10. Rick Astley - 'Never Gonna Give You Up' Shouldn't that come with a link?

He was talking so softly I wasn’t really paying attention at first. I was surprised it was a list of the worst songs. I mean, Never Gonna Give You Up was #1 in 25 countries.

I disagree with half of that list!
These ones I completely agree with. 7. Bobby McFerrin - 'Don't Worry Be Happy'
5. Men Without Hats - 'The Safety Dance'
3. Chris de Burgh - 'Lady In Red'. ( I loved that song at the time, but listening to it now, it truly is awful)
2. Europe - 'The Final Countdown'
1. Starship - 'We Built This City'
I would move Bobby McFerrin to spaces 1-5. That song was the worst then and I can’t imagine it aged well.
I would also add Hot For Teacher Kokomo Love Shack Sussidio

The main one I agree with is Don’t Worry Be Happy. I always thought that was the stupidest song.

My brain is now trying to decide which of these awful songs will be the ear worm that lulls me to sleep tonight. Currently “We Built this City” is in the lead, which deserves its #1 spot on this list 😜.

I don't particularly dislike any of them, and I have happy memories about some of them.
eg. 'Mickey'...... One of the guys in my friendship group at the time was named Bob. Whenever that song came on at a nightclub or pub, me and a couple of the other girls used to dance around him singing "Oh Bobby you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, Hey Bobby! Hey Bobby!" He used to pretend that he hated it, but I know he was actually chuffed. Silly song but a fun memory.
I wasn't particularly a fan of Wham! but 'Wake Me Up' is such an iconic song. As is 'Never Going To Give You Up'.

Lady in Red is probably one of the worst songs ever written. I'm surprised Joe Dolce - Shaddap You Face didn't make the list. And lets not forget the heinousness of
There's no one quite like Grandma - St Winifred's School Choir.
Agadoo - Black Lace.
I'm sure I'll think of more, the 80s held many horrors.
