We have to pick a sink tomorrow for our kitchen remodel. I’ve searched back through threads here and did some googling but I’m still unsure. I’m definitely getting a farmhouse type sink with an apron front, and was leaning towards porcelain but I’m reading mixed reviews. I want white so stainless is out. Pros and cons on porcelain? Thanks for any input!

Pros - looks pretty Cons - stains and chips easily. Causes back ache when leaning over into a deep sink. No option for split sink option.

What have you found that’s making you choose porcelain? Knowing what you like about porcelain could help people answer your question better.
(I prefer fireclay, personally.)

One observation. So many friends who chose porcelain “because it looks so much better,” now have a plastic dish washing tub that stays in their sink all the time because it’s too inconvenient and bulky to store it and retrieve it from somewhere else. For a kitchen sink, I have to balance looks with practicality. It gets too much use so it has to meet my needs.

I love my cast iron porcelain sink in white. BUT, it does scratch. Mine is 6 years old and has a few scratches on the side I wash dishes.
I use Bar Keeper's Friend on any stains. Most of the time regular old Dawn will clean it.

I have a white farmhouse sink. It cleans with Dawn, if I get a stain I use barkeepers friend. I have a wire rack in the bottom to protect against dropping a heavy item. I prefer one bowl over a split sink because I can fit everything in it to wash. I keep a collapsible tub under the sink for times I need soapy water for cleaning or hand washing. It goes back under the sink when I’m done. It folds flat and stores easily to the side.
We load the dishwasher as we go throughout the day so my sink is generally empty.

I have had this Kohler Farmhouse Sink since 2013 and it still looks great. Cleans very easily with my usual Method cleaner and/or Barkeepers Friend. I keep the 2 piece stainless grid in the sink bottom as addition protection (and that's for my dishes as much as the sink). The dishpan issue isn't a problem for me since we have a laundry room sink in the adjoining room. I keep a collapsible tub under the sink for times I need soapy water for cleaning or hand washing. It goes back under the sink when I’m done. It folds flat and stores easily to the side. Do you have a link handy for this tub?

M going to get a farmhouse sink for the house we are building. The only thing I am decided on is that I am not getting porcelain. I had a porcelain sink in a house two houses back and I regretted it due to chips and stains. My kitchen sink is something I have no time or desire to “baby” to look nice. It’s. Work horse. I had stainless in my last house and was happy with it. I am leaning towards Fire clay because it will give the look I want. But I might just do a farmhouse stainless if I find one I like enough.

Can’t wait to have it. 😁

Thank you! Added to my Amazon cart for my next order. It looks like it will be a much better fit for storage in my laundry room than the traditional one I currently have.

i have the kohler farmhouse sink and it is easy to keep clean to me. i use dawn daily, use a bleach spray a couple times a week and bar keepers friend when it needs it. if you have some type of liner like gypsy girl mentioned you shouldn't have to use the bar keepers friend much at all.

I have a fireclay sink. It has been used an abused for 11 years. It has one small chip- no idea when or how it happened, but I have dropped many things that have broken without damaging the sink. I did get a metal grate after that but ditched it after a few years, it just got so gross so quickly. The sink isn’t stained but I can feel scratches and they do pick up some discoloration if I don’t keep up with cleaning. A little bleach spray every now and then and it cleans up nicely. I will probably do one again in our new build, but be a little more careful with it. I am in a Facebook group where they were recently discussed and someone mentioned the front of their SS one getting scratched up from button and zippers on their pants. I imagine that would be a huge problem with DH so I took that off the list as an option.

The top of the apron got scratched from running pans across it as well. I was not a fan of the SS.
