That you live in this country says Rand Paul. Because did you know that the poorest people in our country are actually the equivalent to the middle class in most countries.
He goes on to say “We are a huge success - we are a country misguided and led astray by media that aren’t honest….
Rand Paul said this on the floor of the Senate today.
If we are such a huge success then why are there people living on the street or in their cars? Oh I know, they chose to live on the street. It’s a lifestyle choice on their part.

Yes. And they refuse to work. REFUSE, I tell you!
Rand Paul is special. (And I don’t mean that in the nice way.) But he’s not all that different from the rest of the Republican politicians, is he? They all think that way, even if they don’t say it out loud in public.

actually many poor people in other countries are better off--they have income support, free health care and not demonized as lazy...

What a, stupid little man. Let him try one day of living at that level and see how lucky he feels.

I have no patience for him and the rest of the old white vampires that are GOP politicians who feed off of the lifeblood of the masses. You are much nicer than me, Lucy! 🥰

I firmly believe that when a person judges/opines on another group of people it is usually a reflection on what they think about themselves. I think a lot of wealthy people say things like this because if they have even a sliver of human decency, they feel a little guilt about their wealth in comparison to what little others actually have. They are trying to justify in their minds having so much when others have so little. They have to believe that those others (the poor people) are thriving in comparison to people in other countries because otherwise they have to accept the fact that their wealth is tainted by the fact that they aren't spreading their dollars around. And in the case of Republicans, they have to justify their positions that programs which help the poor are worthless and those tax cuts they give to corporations and the wealthy are just.
Rand Paul is a terrible human being. In so many ways. Without being a sociopath, he needs to find a way to live with the fact that he's a terrible human being. And this is how he does it.

Always watch what politicians compare you to. When they say “here is how the future could be, more just, more prosperous, more equitable, more peaceful, given all of the tech and knowledge and wealth that we have, let’s work to make it so“, They’re comparing current time to a better proposed future. When they say things like “at least you’re not living in a ditch, being beaten day in and day out, starving and freezing and sick.“, Just think about how their mind works. It shows they have absolutely no idea how to make a better world. They’re just grateful it’s not a worse world. For now. That’s all they’ve got to offer.

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard the other day that 40% of Kentucky's budget is federal monies, which means OUR money!!! It does sound off, but Kentucky is near the bottom for education, healthcare...... And more!

It does sound off, but Kentucky is near the bottom for education, healthcare...... And more! There was a chart a while ago showing how much each state sent to the federal government per person, and how much each state received back per person. Kentucky was at the bottom of the list for the amount they sent...less than $1, but they get back almost $4. Compare that to most blue states...they send $1 and get back less than $1.

He is a sad, sad version of a human being. And what I find even sadder is that there must be a whole lot of people who agree with him and his ideas since he keeps getting reelected.

Yep, senator of one of the poorest states saying shit like that and getting re-elected because they’ve convinced poor white people that poor black/brown people and marginalized groups are their enemies.

Send him to the poorest part of a big city or rural area and let him see how easy poor people have it. Let him sit in on classes w/poor children who's only nutrition is the free breakfast and lunch program during the school year. Yup. I'm sure those parents are mighty grateful to not be able to feed their own children. Perhpas when Rand paul gets his foot removed from his mouth he will wake up and see the reality of poverty in America. Yes, we have systems and charities that can help, but not everyone and not all the time. I think that Rand Paul should spend 30 days of back breaking work picking broccoli in the fields in triple digit temps while his family lives in a one room shack w/bugs and vermin. That's a real thing and was the life of my college roommate. Having driven her home, I witnessed her family's lifestyle and her parents worked tirelessly in order to give their children a much better life. I want to kick Rand Paul in the gonads. Does anyone remember the documentary by Morgan Spurlock about living on minimum wage for 30 days? It was an eye opener with topics like food vs. much needed medical care. Which utility do you want? How often do you think Rand Paul has subsisted on rice or waited for a new coat at a donation center in January? If he needs medical care I doubt he has to choose btwn medicine and dinner.
I think I've made my point!

Seems that Rand Paul's sentiments are very popular amongst the populist "Republicans". I know that here in FL, DCFS thinks that we live like kings. We have NO income other than our SS, no assets whatsoever, and our essential monthly bills (rent, electric..) quickly became more than we have coming in. We've both put in for decades with paying taxes and working, and DH is a Veteran, but when it comes down to it (especially if you live in a Red State) no one cares. You have to fight with everything you've got to get that "handout" from anywhere. I think they count on people not being able to fight and then they're booted out of the system.

I guess this is example how the United States is a “huge success “…. And then we wonder why things are as fucked up as they are. We build a shit foundation and then expect to build a mansion on top of it.
It doesn't work that way.
And we spend trillions rebuilding the house over and over because the foundation was never poured properly in the first place.

Let us see how Kentucky can live on their own, without all the federal subsidies to their budget. Not counting individual government checks for now. Although we help with those too.
I don't know how to show the inhabitants of Kentucky how they are being screwed by Paul and McConnell at OUR expense and theirs, of course too! And it ain't all the black and brown people at the top of the list and that has been document for years!!!!
I guess they might learn if they keep pushing to secede.
