Because the peas love an update: turns out this is all about her (wife in couple) wanting to make sure her kids eat before they drop the middle one off to babysit. That’s also why she doesn’t want to go earlier or have the sis pick up the middle kid.
Part of me gets it because the oldest and youngest will not necessarily eat if she’s not standing over them. The middle one is the responsible one. But also - they’re teenage boys. They won’t die if they miss one meal.
I suspect there may also be an element of her acting out and wanting to exert some control because he made the plans without consulting her. She’s a lovely person, but she’ll be the first to tell you she can be a bit of a control freak.
So it seems she is being unreasonably rigid about this and I am unreasonably annoyed, and our husbands are not going to touch any of it with a ten foot pole.
Oh well. We will have a great time anyway. Go Astros!
****
I know I’m being unreasonable, so this is just a vent.
We made plans with our closest couple friends to go to ALCS game 1 tomorrow night. We were going to Uber from our house and have dinner downtown before the game.
We are empty nesters; they still have kids at home, but they’re old enough to stay on their own so it’s generally not a problem.
Welp, friend’s sister asked their middle child to babysit for them tomorrow night. So now they have to drop middle child off at her house at 5, which means they can’t be downtown till at least 6. Too late for dinner before a 7:00 game with 45,000 people at it. There would be no place near the stadium available to eat at that time.
I feel like if sister wanted a last minute babysitter, she could go pick him up instead of friends changing our plans to do it.
I’m bummed. These tickets were expensive and it was going to be a whole event for the four of us, and now they’re just meeting us at the game. Still fun, but but not the event we had planned.
Oh well. I’ll get over it.
Are you unreasonably annoyed about something tonight?

That's so disappointing! Is there any reason they can't drop their daughter off earlier than 5, so they could still meet you for dinner? And yes, your friends should have told the sister that she would have to pick the babysitter up because they already have plans. There's no way I would have cancelled dinner plans in that situation.

I feel for you. I don’t think your friend should have changed plans like that.

I am unreasonably annoyed by many boring things today. Your situation is perfectly justified annoyance, IMO! Also, I hope the Astros win BIG.

It’s disappointing but I’d still make the best of it. Can you and your husband have dinner together and then they meet you for a drink and/or dessert at 6 and then you all go to the game?
Or even if they just meet you at the game - have a great time together.

Right? It’s a kind of weird family dynamic and I don’t feel comfortable saying something. But it’s super annoying.

I think that's a totally reasonable thing to be annoyed about.
I'm unreasonably annoyed that I am supposed to scrapbook with tomorrow here, and I have no idea what time, or whether we are still on.

Ha, you may be the only person outside of Houston who does. Ah, no, I have a LOT of company here in Yankee territory - people will be watching the games to cheer you on!

I don’t know what all went into this decision for them and they’re not normally flaky. So. It will be fine.

Well, I’m glad there’s someone out there that doesn’t #hateus. Lol. My feed is full of Red Sox and Dodgers fans and the hypocritical butthurt is unreal.

You are certainly entitled to be annoyed. I would be. Just ditch her and take me! I can be at any restaurant you name, as early as you want! I hope you are still able to have fun tomorrow night anyway. What area are you sitting in? Your feed sounds like mine. I'm hoping for a Giants vs Astro World Series, that way I'll be happy with whichever team wins (former SF resident and Giants fan for 30+ years). I'm also hoping that the Astros can pull this off and win at home. Championship is at the same time as Quilt Festival. I was down there in 2017 and out in the streets with half of Houston until 2 am. Would love to do that again!

We have season tickets (partial package - we split it with 4 others, including these friends) in 126, so that’s where we get postseason tickets as well. Basically behind first base in row 20. I’m sure we’ll have a great time anyway.

I'd be annoyed.
Our kids gifted us Toronto Raptor tickets one year for Christmas. We live a good hour and a half from where they play. DH took the afternoon off, and we left in plenty of time to get there, have a great dinner and then be on time for the game.
But downtown Toronto GRIDLOCK at 5:00 was pathetic. It took us almost an hour in wall to wall traffic to get to a parking garage. Too late for a nice dinner. So we had fast food from one of the vendors in the arena.
I hate when you have great plans and they get partially effed up!
Have a great time at the game!

I'd be super annoyed, and if I was the friend there's no way I'd be making those adjustments (In Houston during rush hour?). If you needed my child that bad, come get them.
Go 'Stros! We'll be cheering them on from the back porch!

It is not unreasonable to be annoyed. I despise when people change plans and it affects me. When you make plans in the future it would be good to put it out there that the last time plans got changed and it ruined some of the plans. Or before then if opportunity knocks.

I will validate your annoyance. I hate when you make plans and they get changed through no fault of your own.
Hope you have a great time at the game and that you're able to have a nice dinner with your DH beforehand.
