Well at the age of late 40 something, I’m about to start allergy shots. I just can’t deal with the constant sinus issues and asthma flair ups. I hate shots. Like seriously. My brother got them as a child but told my mom no thank you. I don’t want to be a pin cushion. My doctor said it will take months to see if they’re effective. 😳😳
Has anyone had success personally or with your child? I’m super hesitant but also sick of my nose. Of course, wearing a mask all day doesn’t help.

I got shots for several years as a young adult to help with pollen allergies.. granted this was 40 yrs ago. It significantly helped me.. I never suffered so much after the shots. totally worth it. I couldn't function the way things were.

My and DS's hay fever has been SO BAD these last few weeks, that I would do anything for a shot if I knew it would make it better.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it is completely painless, like my annual flu shots and my second COVID shot. I honestly did not feel a single thing, I had to ask them if they really gave me a shot! How can a needle go into your arm and you not feel a thing? Weird, but good weird.

I had allergy shots for about three years in my 40's. They worked! It was administered in two doses - one in each arm. After going in to the office for a year for them, I learned how to give them to myself and did it that way for the last few years. When they had to double the cost of the serum, I had to stop. But they worked. I was allergic to grass and cedar along with other things I cannot remember now. Grass used to leave marks on my skin if I sat on grass and cedar would cause me to have trouble breathing. Now, I don't have any issues with them.

I’m 64 and have had chronic allergy/sinus issues all my life. I had sinus surgery in 2000 but it really didn’t clear up the recurrent infections. I had allergy testing years ago, both blood and skin prick, but neither test showed anything. I take OTC antihistamines, nasal rinse every night, OTC steroid nasal spray. I have a wonderful ENT who understands my issues. But. I never really improved until I had a 4 month bout of hives that lead me to a proper allergist. Testing revealed I am allergic to cats, molds/mildew, and every form of tree and grass known to mankind. I started allergy shots in February, 2 times a week. I’m down to once every 3-4 weeks and they have changed my life. I’ve had ONE sinus infection since January. Previously I would get between 2 and 4 a year. Typical allergy symptoms have been reduced or eliminated.
Shots are a time commitment. You have to get them on a schedule. It’s not something to approach casually, like oh, I don’t wanna go today. But it is worth it.

I started allergy shots in my early 40s and have been doing them for about 3 years now. Initially I went weekly, then every other week, then every 3rd and now I go every 4 weeks. At this point I only need allergy medicine on shot days and maybe 3 or 4 days in the height of ragweed season. I was taking allergy meds daily, had developed an asthmatic cough and was just generally miserable.
The deciding factor on what allergist I went to was proximity to my office. It's close and on my way from home, so I would schedule the appointments either first thing and get to work a few minutes late or over my lunch hour.

I did them as a child. It really helped me. I had severe allergies and asthma. I still have them but they are very manageable with regular medication, nothing like what I dealt with before.

DS, DGS (2 yo) and myself have all done allergy shots. DEFINITELY worth it! Life is so much more pleasant afterwards. DS and I have not had 100% relief from all allergy symptoms but we are allergic to a lot of things. I can't imagine they would be able to give us relief from all symptoms for each allergen. DGS is in the process. He had a period of about 6 weeks where he couldn't have his shots because of quarantines and there was a marked difference in his symptoms.
The shots themselves are absolutely painless. It's the tinies thinnest needle. Even DGS didn't flinch. Truly the easiest shot experience of my life.

My allergist closed his office completely for 3+ months at the start of the pandemic and I definitely noticed a difference in my symptoms. My understanding from my doctor is that if you do allergy shots as a child you can train your body and at some point stop the shots and still continue with the relief. Since I didn't start until my 40s, there's a really good chance that if I stop all my progress will go away. As of today, I'm totally fine going once a month forever.

I started getting them as an adult, maybe in my early 40s, and it's the best thing I ever did. After a couple years with no reactions to the shots, they let me give them to myself at home, and after 6 months of that, I was able to stop completely. No more 4x-a-year sinus infections.

I started in my 50’s and the shots changed my life. I use to be sick for an entire month in the winter. That stopped with the shots. I’m allergic to lots of things, mostly nature, and I can’t believe how much better I tolerate nature now. I say go for it.

I did them a couple of years 30 years ago, and restarted about 7 years ago. I still have issues with allergy seasons, but they're diminished from what they were.

I get Dupixent shots every 2 weeks for my severe asthma. That shot FREAKING hurts. I dread it but it helps some, at least keeps my flare ups from landing me in the hospital. You can do it, just remember it's to make you feel better

I absolutely recommend them. I have (had?) a high allergic response to a lot of different allergens so at first I was getting a shot in each arm once a week. Eventually it tapered down to a shot in each arm every three weeks.
I’d been on them for almost five years so was thinking about stopping anyway when the pandemic hit and made me wary of going into the office. I’d done them all in-office for the first year or so and then was allowed to do self-injections at home, but still had to go un for the first set of shots from a new vial. Now that I’ve been off them for about 18 months I feel some of my symptoms creeping back, but at a much lower level than before.
I recommend anyone who can afford allergy shots to get them. They made such a positive impact on my life that II wish I had done them decades earlier.

My son just started them roughly a month ago, so he's going 2x a week. Because he had allergies to things that couldn't be combined in the serum together, he has to get 2 shots each time. He says they kind of hurt but nothing too bad, and he doesn't have any major soreness afterward or anything. They actually do seem to be helping already.

I wanted to get them, but when I checked with insurance, they weren't going to be covered. It was going to be something like $750 a month to start for me or something like that. Don't remember the exact nummber, but I remember it being aboe the total of all our other household bills besides the mortgage. Um, nope, I'll suffer.

You can do it, just remember it's to make you feel better He actually wanted me to do Dupixent. I finally got insurance approval but everything including the nasal polyp oddly cleared up over the summer so I put it off. I’m hoping the allergy shot will be enough to keep me off Dupixent. My asthma has only been a concern since my sinuses have been so jacked up the past 24 months. I appreciate all the feedback. I’m planning to start Tuesday. 😩
