I've read all of the news stories and studies which claim it's still a rare occurrence but I also know the CDC isn't tracking it and at least anecdotally, it sure seems like there a lot more breakthrough cases than we'd expect based on the initially reported stats.
I had 2 fully vaccinated extended family members test positive this week; they weren't yet at the date they would have been eligible for boosters so less than six months from vaccination. My parents have had so many friends who've had breakthrough cases that they have gone back to doing NOTHING even though they both had boosters.

None. I actually only know 2 people who have had COVID and that was before the vaccine.

I picked 2-5 but I think it might be a few more than 5.

none in person - but other than my family - I don't know that many people who are vaccinated. I do know plenty of people who have had it and I know of a couple who have died (a coworker of DH, a husband of one of the teachers from the elementary school my kids went to, a friend's father...) but none that were vaccinated afaik. Online - I know of some with breakthrough cases but the sampling pool is also much larger

I have had a couple of students and a few coworkers who told me they were fully vaccinated and then ended up with a breakthrough case. My daughter has been fully vaccinated since July and tested positive.
Waiting to see if DS & I are positive. I was fully vaccinated as of Feb 2021, him at the same time as my daughter. My kids both had Pfizer, DH & I had Moderna.

Three I can think of. A friend who works at school and her husband both got Covid and are both vaccinated. My friend says it probably saved her life to have the vaccine.

I don’t know anyone in person who has had a breakthrough case, but all of the vaccinated people I know are pretty paranoid and most never stopped masking or social distancing this whole time.

At least 5-10. If I thought about it, maybe more.
My cousin and aunt just tested positive and at least 4 of the teachers at my school who got sick were vaccinated

One.
She found out when she arrived in Copenhagen to visit her sons that she'd been exposed at a wedding. She tested positive and was quarantined for the entire trip.
Anyone I know that has had COVID in the last few months was unvaccinated.

One, but honestly, I don't know for sure she was vaccinated.
If there was one person I would have put money on being anti-vax, it would have been her. Among my social group, not being vaccinated is not something you would readily admit to, so I could see her just saying she was.

The vaccine is very effective at preventing severe illness and death. It is less effective at preventing one from contracting Covid at all.
I do know of some breakthrough cases. I do not know of any breakthrough cases that resulted in severe illness or death.

I know 6. Two of them had to be hospitalized and one of them passed away from Covid at age 56. All of them were fully vaccinated. I am back to staying home whenever possible.

Two just a few weeks ago. My best friend and her husband who are both full vaccinated. She was vaccinated in Feb, he in Apr. She’s a nursing director who works in a hospital and he works for an airline and flys west coast to east coast every week.
In my opinion, they both took way too many risks in their daily lives which was pretty much unavoidable due to the nature of both their jobs. It was just a matter of time.
ETA: they both had mild cases.

I chose 5-10, but that is households, not individual people. It would be 10+ individual cases. My sisters house was 6 people, by itself.

I actually work in a hospital with Covid pts, so I’m exposed to more of the vaccinated that needed to be hospitalized. Yes there have been some in icu and intubated. Right now we are running about 75% unvaccinated hospitalized and 25% breakthrough vaccinated.

I know of several people who got Covid in the past month or so but I don't know their vaccination status. I only know of one person that had a breakthrough case for sure.

I received the first Pfizer vax in April. I had an immediate allergic reaction and was hospitalized. I was advised to not get the second shot. I got covid about a month ago. I received the antibody infusion because I'm type 1 diabetic. Covid kicked my ass, still not feeling 100 percent. My hair is falling out, all kinds of fun stuff. Anyway, I guess I'm a semi break through case. So thankful for the first shot and infusion, I think they kept me out of the hospital.
I know of mild break through cases. My aunt had a severe break through case but she made it through after a few weeks in the hospital. She was never put on a vent. She also lost her hair.

The CDC might not be tracking it, but State Health Depts are. Mine is.
From my observation of my states numbers when cases (among unvaccinated) were lower, breakthrough cases were pretty minuscule (around 3.1% positivity rate) about a month ago. The more cases among the unvaxxed (currently 7.1% positivity rate as of today) the proportion of breakthrough does increase. Not really sure what that means, it’s just interesting to observe. Anecdotally I know of 3 breakthrough cases, 1 here and two in TX.
