I usually open from the "top"/stem. But, when I am having troubles, then I open from the "bottom". I find it is actually cleaner to open from the bottom, you don't end up digging your fingernail into the banana when you struggle to open it from the stem end.

I have always peeled from the top/stem end. I read something a little while ago - maybe it was even here? - that said you should peel from the other end to avoid all the stringy bits.

I read something somewhere that monkeys/apes open them from the bottom end and use the stem as sort of a handle. Makes sense!

Both, sometimes on the same banana, because I don't like the strings. They have no taste and they make my teeth feel funny.

Top.
But my mother and grandfather insisted that peeling from the bottom resulted in no strings. I don’t find strings a big deal so I’m a top down gal lol.

I read something somewhere that monkeys/apes open them from the bottom end and use the stem as sort of a handle. Makes sense! When the school kiddos have trouble opening their bananas at lunch, I tell and show them how to peel it like a monkey from the bottom! So much easier than trying to open it from the stem.

I've always found peeling from the bottom to be easier.

It never occurred to me to peel from the bottom, and I have never seen anyone do it.

I literally opened this thread bc I had no idea they could be opened any other way than from the top. I have no idea how to open it from the bottom. Can you show me too?

My kids open from the bottom, but I don't like having to immediately deal with that little bit at the bottom that I won't eat, so I peel from the top.. At home I just use a small knife to get the peel started if I'm having an issue with it.

I learned from some dumb social media that peeling the banana from the bottom works so much better! And it DOES!

Can you show me too? Squeeze the brown nub at the bottom and it will split, then peel away.

Those peas who have never peeled from the bottom.. ur thumbs and index fingers on each side of the little nub... then just sorta pinch them apart and the nub splits open...

DD33 just heard me read this out loud and she said, "Write back, 'Peel it? We just eat it'". Goof!
OF COURSE we all peel it from the stem. If the stem is too short or annoying for me, I take out a small knife and slice it open.....

I am usually putting it in a fruit salad so I slice off the top stem and peel.
