On vacation in Gatlinburg. Had dinner at our hotel bar and then was going to walk up the strip. Walked a very short distance and just felt weird. Can’t even explain it really. Started back to hotel, got super hot, but mainly just my hands and feet. Mild throbbing in hands and feet also. Got to hotel and heart was racing. Went to lobby bathroom and splashed cold water on my face and neck. Made it to room and had to strip down naked cause I was burning up. Heart rate went down quickly, no chest pain.
Took cool shower and laid down. Few minutes later I’m shivering and freezing. Feet still throbbing and muscles jerking in lower legs. Now I’m just freezing all over. Under covers with extra blanket. Do not feel sick or feverish. Not Covid, had it six weeks ago.
I’ve never felt like this. Been an hour or so. Food allergy? Had only one mixed drink with dinner, so not alcohol related. Did eat different meats and cheeses from charcuterie board as appetizer.

My guess is it is still effects from COVID. It’s only been 6 weeks. I had it 10 months ago, mild case, and still deal with symptoms that come in waves, less and less as time goes on. But still I go from totally fine to dealing with after effects, then back to totally fine.
One thing common to a lot of my circle who have had it, especially the women, is it’s like our internal thermostats are messed up. Hot, cold, cold, hot.
Also, muscle twitching and heart racing. And odd pains. Still. At 10 months out. Blurry vision and brain fog too.

Well it doesn’t totally fit but I was going to suggest panic attack. Or food reaction. Good luck. Feeling unwell away from home is miserable. If it persists please get checked out.

A panic attack was my first thought, as well. But I also wondered if someone might have put something in your drink? Whatever the case, I hope you return to good health ASAP and that this is but a blip on the radar.

We sat at the bar, I watched the bartender make it and no one was close to where we were sitting to have done it after.

Well it does sound similar to what mcjunkin has also experienced post-COVID. The gift that keeps on giving I guess 😰. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry that you feel unwell. I get the "something feels off" feeling and I haven't had Covid. But I do have sinus issues that give me vertigo and what you have described is how I feel if my vertigo is acting up. A little off, not quite right, tingly, etc. Your heart racing was probably a fright or flight response. I get that a lot with my vertigo because I don't really get a dizzy feeling, but just a sense that something is off. I'm not saying that you have vertigo, but a fright or flight response.
I hope that you feel better in the morning and can enjoy your vacation.

I know this seems pretty obvious, but since it happened immediately after dinner, could it be something you ate?

It sounds like a food issue. I’d say the covid thing hasn’t helped either. What you described is the same as I feel when I’ve had too much egg (I’m egg intolerant) or when I push too hard when I’m sick. No matter how good I feel I always over do it shortly after sickness.

It sounds like an allergic reaction to me. I had the same thing happen many years ago when I took penicillin (for the last time). It takes a little while for the symptoms to settle down. If they don't, I'd suggest finding a doctor. It's also worth taking notes on what you ate before you had the reaction so you can potentially avoid having a reaction again.

One thing common to a lot of my circle who have had it, especially the women, is it’s like our internal thermostats are messed up. Hot, cold, cold, hot I thought my hot flashes were just mini now, but this makes more sense. I had Covid a year ago next week. I am still getting flushed at times, then freezing within 5 minutes. I keep saying my internal furnace is f**ked up! I agree with others, that you were recently sick on top of a possible slight allergic reaction. I have a drink here and there, and at certain bars I have the same reaction you describe (you can feel your hearbeat, throbbing, ringing in the ears, etc.) It goes away pretty quickly, but I think it's an allergic reaction. Lots of time I actually sneeze multiple times in a row. I can't pinpoint if it's something on the glass itself or something in the air. There are certain bar/restaurants by our lake place that I can't go to because of my reactions. It has happened every single time at one of the nicer places and it make me sad.

We ate a lot of unfamiliar cheeses. I wonder if it could be a mold sensitivity. I get similar, but not exactly the same, kind of reactions if I eat too much blue-style cheese or too much external mold-ripened cheese (like brie). I can eat small amounts with no reaction, but if I eat too much, it's weird. (Note: I've never talked to my doctor about it, so I'm not 100% sure it's the mold, but it's only with mold-ripened cheeses and never at any other time, so I'm just assuming.)

This is exactly what we are thinking! I had blue cheese on a burger at lunch, on the charcuterie board, and blue cheese dressing on my salad! What were your symptoms?

One time we were on vacation, and I was having a lot of allergy symptoms - congestion, burning eyes, cough, etc - so I took an antihistamine about 3pm. I didn't think about it when we went out to eat and about 6:30pm I had 2 glasses of wine. Within 20-30 minutes, I got really flushed, and my heart started racing. It lasted about an hour. It was later that I realized that my blood pressure had dropped with the combo of the wine and meds and that was what was causing my heart rate to increase.
So, did you take any meds you don't normally take on that day?

It sounds very much like an anxiety attack to me. You do not have to feel the slightest bit anxious to have one. Even if you love to travel, being out of your element can trigger unconscious anxiety, that you don't realize until it sneaks up and says Hey girl! What's up? I hope it was one and done, whatever it was, and you enjoy the rest of your trip.

My regular meds include Zyrtec, birth control pill and blood pressure meds.
