14 years old. We brought her home from a local shelter when she was about 8 or 9 months (they weren’t sure). After 14 great years she had lost her voice, couldn’t walk, couldn’t hear, and couldn’t see very well. She had a great appetite up till the end and her last couple of days were filled with chicken and cheese and peanut butter. We had her euthanized at home with an agency called Lap of Love. She passed with her head in my dd’s lap. ❤️ 😢

So very sorry. But what a great life Simba had with you! She'll be waiting for you.
Sidenote: I love that there are Vets/Agencys who will do that at home so they can be calm and relaxed and in their own place where they feel more comfortable. It's better for the pets and the humans.

SO much better! She was on her blanket on the floor with us around her petting her and as the sedative took effect she just drifted asleep with her head on dd's lap. After they're totally sedated the vet takes paw prints and you can pet them and talk to them for awhile (even if they can't hear you) before the vet gives the final injection. Totally peaceful and calm vs. being dragged into a place that many of them are scared of...Simba was one of those... she would shake and shiver and was so scared. This was absolutely the opposite of that experience.

This was absolutely the opposite of that experience. That is so much better. My vet has a room that is made up to look more like a living room. They have it carpeted, some nice photography on the walls and a couch for the humans and a really nice couch dog bed if the pet can't get on the couch. It's a nice touch and it makes it feel like you're not in a sterile cold exam room when doing something so personal and sad.

This was absolutely the opposite of that experience. My heart is with you and your family. It is the toughest decision to have to make. We said goodbye to our sweet Abbie in early September of this year too. I can't sing the praises of Lap of Love loud enough. We've used their services twice now, and it is a peaceful and beautiful process. I know that beautiful is a weird word to use here, but our Abbie was in her favorite spot: on the rug, in the sun, by the back door. The process was just as you described. And while we love our vet and are thankful for the years of care from her, transporting a large old dog seems like a cruel end. At home was definitely best for us.

Oh I am so, so sorry. She was quite the beauty. I know she was loved and spoiled so much. Sweet sweet hugs to you.
When I saw the photo, I gasped. She looks so much like our first pup as a family. She was a black lab mix but never had the lab build. Just a big old black furry lump.
