That in the year of Our Lord 2021 we have created one appliance that will pressure cook, air fry, saute, steam, bake and dehydrate and yet still don't have the technology to frost a damn pop tart edge to edge?
Feeling grumpy today and this was just the icing (or lack thereof) on the poptart.
It didn't help matters that while I was trying to enjoy my half frosted warm treat from the toaster all three cats were being very pushy about wanting a bite. No, I wasn't willing to share.

I don’t like pop tarts but this cracked me up. Will a toaster oven toast to the edges?

Isn't it amazing what the last straw is some days. There was something the other day at work that just put me over the edge. My boss said that is really no big deal and I know it is not a big deal, but it just came at the wrong time for me and I was just done.

How dare they not properly frost that pop tart! Maybe you could join this woman’s lawsuit against Kellogg link

Switch to Pillsbury Toaster Strudels. You put the icing on yourself.
related story: A few years back my sister was talking to one of her coworkers and her coworker mentioned liking Toaster Strudels, but she was mad that they made the icing packet smaller. When my sister told me this, because I also like Toaster Strudels, I realized that I had been using the whole icing packet recently, but in the past I would only use part of the packet because I didn't like that much icing. I had thought I just liked more icing now and hadn't even realized they were smaller packets.

Ha Ha - for real!! The actually pop tart looks nothing like the photo on the box, which of course has edge to edge frosting. Maybe you can sue them like that lady that is suing them because there isn't enough strawberry in the strawberry filling.

A funny not about pop tarts, and my DD. She's 20 now, but when she was 16, she had a Pop Tart in the toaster, waiting very impatiently of course. She blurted out something like "when is this going to POP up?" And then she turned to me, super serious, and said "OMG, is that why it's called a Pop Tart? Because it pops up from the toaster?" OMG, I had the best laugh over that, because she really didn't know. She was so serious, and amazed.

I'm team Toaster Strudel, but I'll validate your complaint. No one wants a naked pastry.

OMG.. we have Pop Tarts on occassion and I opened one up the other night for a snack... there was HARDLY any icing on it.. just a teeny bit in the middle. I was not a happy camper. Is this a first world problem?

A friend’s husband used to work at the plant where they make Pop Tarts. They also made the Kroger brand there and he said they had to put a wider swath of icing on the Kroger brand to meet Kroger’s requirements. Maybe you should try the store brand.

I've found the Walmart brand pop tarts have more frosting than Pop Tart brand.

Hahaha!
I have a theory …
They frost them waaaaay away from the edge so there’s no spillage over the sides. That would cause lots of clean up and most likely frosting waste.
My bet is that it’s a manufacturing thing however annoying and cheap it may seem!

My food gripe lately is the ever-shrinking package.
I used to buy a package of snap peas that used to be 12 oz, then 10, then 8. Now 6.7.
FFS. STOP IT! Just raise the prices and leave the size alone.

I like Pop tarts on occasion but only the unfrosted kind and those only come in one or maybe two flavors. I only recall unfrosted strawberry but maybe my store has a small selection or something.
If the frosting went all the way to the edge, wouldn't your fingers get sticky trying to eat it?

Thanks for the validation.
Yes, it is completely a first world problem.
I guess my annoyance came from the fact that I rarely eat pop tarts, haven't had one in a couple of years. Usually I really want one, but then look at the nutrition information and think it is not worth it.
I saw them at the store last week and bought the Walmart brand on impulse. Had looked forward to having one.
Also, imagine my annoyance when I grabbed the (I thought unopened box because well, I hadn't opened it) and found my DD had already eaten half the box.
Maybe it is the universe telling me that I don't need to be eating them!

Well, the part that isn’t frosted also has no filling so it’s just that nasty cardboard tasting “pastry”—and I always give those unfrosted, unfilled sad pieces to my dogs! They are perfectly happy to think they are getting something good from me and I’m perfectly happy to not just throw it in the trash where it belongs!
(And now I want a pop tart. Because DH is on a keto diet at the moment I’m trying not to eat anything carb filled around him BUT he already went to bed, so I just might have one. Or two. Because if I only eat one the other one will just get stale and even grosser. I’m going to justify it because all I had for lunch was a 4 oz yogurt.)

But we DO have the technology for properly frosting pop tarts - they just don't use it for some reason. But, haven't you ever seen the magic pizza saucer running at the Costco snack bar? It's not actually even that high-tech of a thing, but it gets the sauce on there perfectly. I mean, maybe they'd have to make the pop tarts round for it to be *perfect* but surely someone could modify it for a side-to-side movement instead of circular.

Well the Pop Tarts of the past have always had the icing spot on... all the way almost to the edge... I noticed the shrinkage over the past year or year and half. I thought because maybe the ones at Costco were made differently than the ones that end up in the grocery store... that was my theory... but nope.. these were definitely from the grocery store and worse than the Costco ones that are packaged in bulk.
And yes my dog gets the cardboard pieces.. no icing, no filling.. He thinks he is hot stuff getting those pieces.. lol
@breetheflea the icing is hard/solid so there is no stickyness mess.

Kellogg employees are currently on strike.
Maybe the frosting issue is at the heart of the labor dispute - management won't let them fully cover the pop tarts and they know it's just not right!
