If you have a fake pre-lit tree, or are thinking about buying one, get a Light Keeper Pro. You will not regret it. I resisted because of the price, but it was the second year for my BEAUTIFUL Bethlehem Lights pre-lit tree and the middle section was dead. I had spent hours trying to get the lights to work again. I finally went to Walmart and bought a Light Keeper Pro - I pulled out one bulb in the dead section and plugged that socket into the Light Keeper and pulled the trigger. BOOM - all the lights worked. I have used it on other lights and lent it out to friends who where blown away when it fixed their tree too. It is totally worth it! www.amazon.com/Keeper-01201-Complete-Fixing-Miniature/dp/B000R8KBOK

Thanks a bunch for the info. I didn't know that such a gadget existed, and I always hold my breath when we plug in the prelit tree..

I bought a prelit fake tree for my studio a few years ago, and less than two weeks in one of the sections stopped working. I knew it would take a miracle to find the burned out bulb otherwise, so I bought one of these and it works great! I think it was maybe $15-20 at the most at a home improvement center, and you can use it on all of your light strands. If you do any amount of decorating with lights, this is a must have.

I fought having a prelit for years and then I finally broke down and bought one. It lasted TWO seasons. I was not a happy camper. My poor DH messed with it for days trying to get it to light up. Finally, he just took off the lights and now we just put on our own. I think they are a total waste of money.

We got the LightKeeper Pro last year after the Peas raved about it, and it was AWESOME. It really works! Saved us quite a bit in having to buy new lights.

I bet the Light Keeper would have fixed it. I am not kidding. I swear I heard the angels sing when I used it!

I've been impressed with the device -- the little zapper! But ... sometimes ... you can stand and click that little clicker 100 times and the string just isn't going to work! I think that if it is going to work ... it will work within the first 5 attempts. I should check and see if the zapper needs batteries .... hummmmmm

Thanks for the recommendation I hate when a section of the tree won't light after you have it all decorated it so hard to find the problem this sounds like just the thing to fix it more easily.

I got my prelit tree about 10 years ago from Sears. Hadn't had a problem yet. Of course now that I said that...

I guess we've been lucky ~ bought a prelit tree about 8 or 9 years ago and it's still going strong. Every Christmas I say to DH that it's another *free* year since we were paying upwards of $100 for a live tree.

I wish I would have bought mine a year sooner. I took a string of lights that had been (barely) used ONCE and didn't plug them in first (HUGE mistake!) and then spent 20 minutes winding it onto a pine garland to put over the front door. Didn't work! Grrr. Ended up redoing the whole thing with a different light set because I didn't have the Light Keeper at that time. I was going to keep the lights and try to find the bad one, but then the string got dropped on the tile floor and some of the bulbs broke so I ended up recycling the whole mess. You do sometimes have to click the Light Keeper a bunch of times to get it to light up the string, but mine has always worked.

We own this gadget and our batteries (little watch-type) died. Almost cheaper to buy a new gadget! But, it does work!

I had found out about this after we had purchased a bunch of new strands of lights. At the first sign of problems, I'm going to buy one. I think my husband would like this gadget. I'm glad there are such good reports on this from the peas.

I could have used one of those last year on my pre-lit tree. I spent forever getting a couple of strands out of my tree because they won't working. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to how the lights were put on the tree. I finally had to cut them out. This year I replaced the tree, but that's no guarantee .

I think that if it is going to work ... it will work within the first 5 attempts. I should check and see if the zapper needs batteries .... hummmmmm That's what happened to us either last year or the year before. It was a brand new tree, put it up, decorate it, and within a couple of weeks the middle section burned out. Bought that zapper, and it didn't work. I was so pissed we couldn't get the middle section to light. Our tree came with a warranty, so the day we took it down, we took it back to the store and they fixed it. Whatever they had to do, or whatever was wrong with it, I don't know.
