And that's it?
So I received an iPad case I ordered today. It's in a clear poly bag. The bag has a green strip that says "Ready to ship". And that's how it shipped. A clear poly bag with a shipping label stuck on it. No white shipping bag or a box. I know they are trying to cut back on shipping costs, but that seems extreme. I'm going to take pictures before I open it in case there is damage or any kind. But is this the new shipping style?
Hopefully, it's fine. It was just a surprised to see it on my front porch in a clear bag. Thankfully it wasn't a gift for my DH.

I've never received anything in just a clear bag. Yikes! I wouldn't like that. Nothing like making the job even easier for porch bandits. And this time of year they'll be ruining a lot of holiday surprises as well!

Yes. A shirt I ordered from Amazon. Came in one of those printed "ziplock" bags with the logo of the company that made the shirt and a shipping label stuck on the outside. It was weird to just find my shirt out in the open on my front porch. I suppose it's part of some commitment to reducing packing materials?

A couple of weeks ago, I ordered the Revlon Hair Styler brush that a pea recommended. From Amazon. Great price. It arrived in just the red box it came in. With a printing label directly on the product box.

I ordered the same Revlon hair styler at the same time. Mine came inside a brown corrugated box though.
No clear poly bags here either yet.

I ordered a set of embroidery hoops for my sewing machine and they came today in the manufacturer's box w/ a shipping label on one side. I guess the amazon delivery person will now know I have them ... Wonder what else they will see being delivered! <chuckle>

There surely is some compromise between the small item in huge box situation people talk about and this no packaging whatsoever situation.

Over the summer I ordered some gardening gloves. They were shipped in a clear poly bag. I'm all for less packaging but that seemed extreme.

Not yet the last few things have been in the brown recyclable mailers. I hope they aren't going to do too much of the clear bag thing as that seems really easy to spoil a surprise same with not putting something in a a box. I know on some things they do that but not usually little things. They used to tell you it would come in original box and ask if it would be a gift and you could check it and then it would be placed in another box. No idea if that is still an option. Thank goodness my large Lego set I ordered for my son came in a box as he is usually the one that brings them in the house. I am all for saving packaging but at the same time don't want to tempt mail thieves or spoil a surprise.

Well, I just ordered 3 things from Amazon, and on 2 of the items a message was present at check-out warning me that they would be packaged in a way which would not conceal what the item was. Then there was a spot for me to click if I wanted to opt for "Amazon" packaging instead, which I did, since both were gifts.
So apparently this is a thing now??

Are the things arriving in clear plastic bags being shipped through companies like UPS or USPS? Or are they coming in a blue Amazon Delivery truck?
If they are being delivered via Amazon, they are coming from a warehouse with no actual shipping, just delivery.
I’ve had clear plastic bagged items, along with labels slapped on a retail boxes - typically bulk pasta, dog pads, paper towels, etc. - but they all come on an Amazon truck from the local warehouse.
I’m fine with it. Less packaging waste.

They are now also using less sturdy boxes. The squarish, rectangular ones are fine but the flatter ones crush. Like flat about 3-4 inches high...
ETA: my large box of chocolates in plastic bag/wrap was delivered by UPS.

Tuesday a package arrived. I wish I had taken a photo of the outside. It was wrapped in a heavy layer of tape. It had a sticker that said, "Return to sender" but the sender could not be identified as the label had been damaged/was wet. A larger notice from the Post Office said, "We are sorry we damaged things in progress and hope it is all OK." (More verbage and written more professionally) Our mailman told DH that we could reject it and they would try to find out who the shipper was. If we opened it, we owned it. I knew what it was supposed to be, so accepted it
The box itself looked like it started out as a rectangle, but now was a wedge shape on one end. There was so much tape that a person could not tell that under all the tape the box was still damp.
It was supposed to contain 2 bottles of a liquid anti acid (Gaveson) that the PA has suggested I try to control my acid reflux. I ordered it from the UK because the product sold in the UK has twice as much of the active ingredient than what is sold in the US. (Two previous shipments arrived with so much bubble wrap around it--it was impressive. The first shipment, had heavy duty bubble wrap configured like a tube and the bottles were in their own tube of wrap.)
When we opened this one, the package was damp and there were 3 small pieces of the broken bottle--no more pieces of the broken bottle. Also in a plastic bag (with the big apology message from the post office) was a woven basket lid. In another plastic bag (with apology message) was a bolero made out of the material that athletic garments often use (the kind for coolness and sweating). The remaining intact bottle of Gaveson was heavily covered with the liquid from the broken bottle. I could not tell if the Gaveson had been heavily wrapped originally (I think not, since the bottle broke and there was no evidence of heavy bubble wrapping). It had no bubble wrap at this point.
So, somewhere along the way, the bottle broke and created a mess and some employee must have just randomly taken some packages and combined them. Somewhere out there a person is left with no bolero and no lid for their basket.
By the way, I had decided I was not going to purchase any more as liquid Gaveson is not as effective as the pills I have taken (and am going back to). I am not impressed with its effectiveness.

Not a clear bag but we did have a Pyrex baking dish delivered with in hours of ordering. It was in a Plastic shopping bag and dropped off by a guy in an unmarked vehicle. It was odd. I’m guessing it was an independent Amazon seller?

I had several items delivered in just a clear plastic bag last Christmas; they were all clothing items. I often get small appliances with no outer box, just a shipping label on the product box.

I think elaine was correct for my shipment. I *think* it was delivered by an Amazon truck. We have a distribution site about 1-1/2 hrs away, plus the label is not the usual UPS label. I’m only guessing because even though we have a Ring doorbell, A) Amazon truck drivers never ring the doorbell B) The aforementioned Ring doorbell is one of my husbands favorite toys and he deletes things from it all the time. HA. I appreciate the less packaging, but it could be annoying for Christmas shipments. My DD and SIL buy a lot of gifts online for Christmas for my teenage grandson. I pick him up from the school bus drop off and we get to his house before his parents get home. You can see the packages at the front door. I need to tell them to have packages delivered to my house if they want any chance of surprising him.

Got my first one yesterday--a clear bag. I absolutely do not like that! Just a label stuck on a clear bag. You could totally see what I purchased. What if it was a Christmas gift? I really, really do not like it for many reasons.

Ok. I don’t want to be “that Pea” that keeps harping on something, but….
I just now inspected and opened the package. It’s an iPad Air case. My observations:
-You can see completely through the clear packaging.
-Amazon drivers lay the package on the front porch unlike UPS drivers that throw the packages, However, there was a small tear in the clear package. I think the package got thrown at some point or at least shoved around because one sharp corner of the iPad case tore through the packaging smooshing the iPad case corner. It’s not much and it’s only cosmetic but still kind of annoying that it happened. (I acknowledge this could be a manufacturing defect and just a coincidence.)
I’m really concerned about what this clear packaging is going to mean for future shipments. At some point these clear packages are just not going to be able to be protective enough and there’s going to be a lot of damaged goods that are going to have to be sent back. That, is going to be super super annoying.
I’m in a neighborhood where there is a lot of delivery trucks on a daily basis. None of the drivers FedEx, UPS, or Amazon make any attempt to tuck the packages behind anything. It’s one of the reasons we got a Ring doorbell. It will be interesting to read on Nextdoor if package theft increases with this new clear packaging.
Ok. Off my soapbox. Ha. I’m just cranky and annoyed today. I have to go into work today and I wasn’t planning on it.

Couldn't they use a plain brown shopping bag? Those are recyclable and you can see through them. That at least is better than a see through package. Shoot even for a small iPhone case you could use a little brown lunch bag!
Last year I got a Keurig shipped in it's own box for my son. He got the package and I quickly said that his sister (she lives at a different address) ordered it and she must have used my account. He bought it and never thought twice about it. Now I try to remember to always check to see if I can use the option to put in another box.

I did this summer, but for the life of me I don't remember what it was. I know it was ceramic or glass and three dimensional, multiple wrapped in plastic packing layers but no bubble or air bags. Very strange, but worked because it arrived intact.

Yup, I received those amazing leggings that were $13.99. They're incredible. They arrived in a clear plastic bag with the sticker affixed. I thought it was strange too!

So weird. Is the clear plastic packaging just like the thin packaging they use for bags of unders and the ones men's dress shirts come in ? Just thin plastic? How is that anymore environmentally friendly then the other bags? I like the brown padded bags, that is the only new package I have seen.
I don't mind things just having a label on the original box as long as I have the option to still have it boxed (in case it was a present or a spendy LEGO set).

That was definitely the first time I was ever asked that and I have never received an item in just a clear bag before. So it's all new to me.
