We set out salad bowls so those who love gravy don't have to worry about it getting on their salad. Actually I always use a bowl for my salad as I dint like dressing getting on the rest of my meal or hot foods wilting my crisp veggies.

This is fairly common around here, but probably no where else so it's not traditional, but we always have red chile for the mashed potatos (of course, there is also gravy for those who prefer, but that's usually just the kids).
Speaking of salad, I had this cousin that use to bring the salad to our Thanksgiving meals and it was the best salad. She used everything but the kitchen sink in that salad. She has since passed away.

This year, we are eliminating mashed potatoes (no one likes the but me) and corn (eat it all the time) I am making Mac and cheese (which is nontraditional for us) and possibly garlicky creamed spinach. Or roasted Brussels sprouts.

Our non traditional food this year is prosciutto wrapped asparagus. My sister made them for Easter and they were a big hit, so she's running them by us again!

Where I live most people have keibasi with all holiday meals but I don't think that's traditional in most areas. So its sort of traditional and sort of not. That reminds me I need to go to Kowalonek and get kielbasa! Seriously the best stuff. If you haven't tried their meatballs you must...so good!

I'm totally saving the broccoli cashew recipe! I don't think we have anything non traditional. We deep fry our turkey but other than that...pretty boring.

I didn't know they had meatballs. I'll have to look when I go for my Christmas kielbasa. Don't go in the morning that's when the lines are the worst.

Red rice with sausage and bacon. Pineapple casserole.... it goes well with ham which we have at every holiday meal.

Kielbasa and saurkraut. According to DH and kids, no celebration is complete without it: holidays, weddings, etc.

I grew up in a Chicago Bohemian family having red cabbage with bacon and caraway at every holiday meal. We also always had green beans with spaetzel.
My aunt always had sauerkraut and kielbasa. When talking to a coworker from Baltimore this morning, he said that sauerkraut was pretty common, regardless of ethnicity.

Nothing really, but because we have to have cranberry sauce for tradition, I mix the cranberries with apple pie filling, mix it with butter and cinnamon and bake it. It's kind of like a crustless pie but not as tart as just cranberry sauce.

I always have to bring a pasta broccoli salad every.single.year. Very sweet mayo based dressing. I love it but would like to make something else. No-can-do according to nieces and sister-in-law. They fight over leftovers and hide them.

I would love your recipe if you'll share it! Thanks for asking, I'm happy to share . This is one I learned from MIL, so I've never had a written recipe and was surprised to see how many variations are out there. I added a link to one that is very close to ours. Thank you!!!

Since my birthday is the day after Thanksgiving this year, I'll be baking a chocolate cake to add to the desserts. Yes, I am baking my own birthday cake but I want to - I rarely bake sweets since dh became diabetic.
