DH and I want to take a quick trip for my bday in early Dec. Just 5 days. Our original plan is Charleston, SC as we have been before and are considering this area for an eventual retirement move, so are interested in getting back. Last trip we did a sunset cruise on a historic ship, late night ghost tour, some historic property tours and lots of walking. We feel like it may be a little chilly for a lot of this, so are considering trying to get someplace a little warmer. We may do a couple sightseeing things, although prefer to mostly be in an area we can walk to shop, eat and hopefully some late-night music (Charleston closed much earlier in the evening than we expected).
For a warmer option, we are looking at FL and most likely Miami. We would have a car so would likely do some venturing down the Keys and possibly the Everglades. We have been to FL a number of times, although only once to Miami and the Keys about 20 years ago.
Besides the general things we want to do, not going for anything specific, just to go celebrate and get away for my birthday. If there was an area that was really neat for the holidays (shoppings and events, although we will likely do a week day trip) I'm interested in that, too.
Any feedback or other suggestions? Thanks!!

McAdenville, North Carolina - it feels like you stepped into a Hallmark Christmas movie - it is near Charlotte.

My sister just moved to St. Petersburg, FL a month ago. She really loves it -- she's been enjoying getting to know the city and says there's so much to do.

I think all these choices sound good. I would also suggest Santa Fe and Sedona.
Eta: and yes it could be cold but I’d also suggest fabulous NYC. I’m headed there end of December- just so much to do. And 5 days seems like a long time in those smaller cities.
