I always put sausage in stuffing ... but my favourite version is one that my Mennonite grandmother made called 'bubbat', which includes dried fruit (mostly raisins).  I'd always make it, left to my own devices, but dh hates dried fruit, so I make the 'regular' kind to keep peace in the family!

For Thanksgiving, no meat in stuffing.

For Christmas, I stuff skin-on boneless chicken breasts with a sausage pecan stuffing.

No meat in ours.  We also call it stuffing, even if it isn’t being stuffed.   I always enjoy a good dressing or stuffing debate here.  I love learning about so many regional differences that I would probably never hear about.  😁

This sounds so good.  I doctor up the stove top mix with celery, onion and dried cranberries but for some reason it didn't occur to me to add apple.  Do you sautee the apple, or does it go in raw?

I grew up with very bland stuffing with just bread, celery, onion and salt and pepper, but when I moved to England I learned about using sausage in my stuffing.  I also started adding long grain wild rice, and water chestnuts for crunch.  I love my stuffing.  

No. My ex mother law made oyster dressing and it was nasty.

I just like regular herb stuffing.

I make oyster dressing/stuffing.  It's always a big hit.  But I also make mashed potatoes for those who may not like stuffing.

My parents used to make oyster stuffing and I loved it! Another thing I miss about being a kid.

This is the way I make it too - I love it!! However, most of the time we're at extended family's house for Thanksgiving, so the 2 people who make the turkeys make the stuffing (host + 1 other that rotates every year, in the before-times) - so it's not me very often. (Large extended family, LOL.) 

This year we'll be at my Dad's and he makes really delicious stuffing using the giblets, turkey stock, onion or leeks, celery, fresh sage, & other usual seasonings, but no sausage, dried cranberries, or apples. He always made the stuffing when my sibs and I were growing up - my Mom baked the bread/rolls, pies, & veggies & salad while my Dad did the turkey, stuffing, and cranberries.  

No, but my family makes stuffing-inside the bird. I would consider adding meat if I had to made dressing-cooked outside the bird. It might help the taste.
