So I've been on a sock odyssey this year and have spent a small fortune on various types and sizes. I have neuropathy in my toes after chemotherapy last year, and so my feet are even pickier than they used to be. It's not terrible, they just get sensitive if socks are too tight or the seam's too bulky.
I'm in need of some warmer winter socks and I was wondering if 100% wool is the way to go, or wool blends? There are some cheap wool blend socks on Amazon that have polyester in them--that doesn't sound warm. Or maybe it's okay? I have no clue.
So can you recommend anything? I need warmth, but not super thick, so they'll fit in my shoes and boots. I don't mind spending more money, but I want to feel sure I'm getting the right thing.

I got these for my twice-cancelled trip to Iceland. I wore them to the beach the other day and fell in love with them. They are not tight at all and keep my feet nice and warm.

Someone here recommended Smartwool socks a while back and I bought two pairs. They're really nice. I generally dislike socks a lot and hate when it's cold enough that I have to wear them, but I like these. Mine are just simple crew socks that I can wear with my booties in winter. They're not super thick at all, but they do feel warm to me (granted, we don't get real real cold here, so YMMV).

I don't know about taking sock advice from a Texan...😉😉😉 Just kidding, we have moderate winters here, too, so it's not like harsh temps, fortunately. I'll check them out, thanks!

Smartwool. They have all levels of warmth. I have super thin no show pairs that I wear with sneakers. My feet are always cold from being frost nibbled while in the Army, these are life savers. I have all manner of thickness in crew style. I haven't noticed problems with the seams, or them being too tight.

I learned about Smartwool here, and since, they’re the only wool socks I buy for everyday wear. The have lighter weight, as well as medium, and thicker. I’m usually wearing the lighter or medium weight this time of year.

I have bought Smartwool socks for a gift the last couple of years. Haven’t worn them myself, but they are what he likes so I got them.

I like the ones I linked better than my Smartwools. I have three pairs of Smartwool socks from when I was backpacking and I find them to be constricting.

I like Smartwool for regular weather. For around the house or for really cold weather, I have Woolrich ragg wool socks that I really like. I would link them, but I can’t find them online right now.

Darn Tough are my choice. I just bought some for Christmas presents. You can get 3 different weights (and various heights and styles ) I think. They are merino wool. Darn Tough

Sock well are great. I have two pair from 2014 still. I have RA and Missouri winters get down into the negative temperatures.

DD19 swears by Pacas socks. She is very picky about how socks feel and fit. Pacas are practically the only thing she's requested for Christmas this year. When a 19 year old only requests socks for Christmas, you know they must be great! Pacas

Another vote for SmartWool. I wear the everyday socks and the no show, even in the summer. I love that they come in sizes for my small feet that often swim in a regular woman’s size. I find the thicker, hiking weights to be tighter, but not the everyday weight.

Smartwool is great, but much better price-wise and just as good quality IMHO are the ones Costco carries. I live in them all winter long! They're stretchier than smartwool, both the foot and calf, but still don't fall down. I machine wash cold and hang to dry (multi-clip drying rack) and have had some pairs for probably 5+ years (I haven't needed to get rid of any since I started buying them). Some are more dress sock style, and some more athletic/utility-type sock tops. I prefer the latter as they're stretchier at the top, but wear both. I wear a 9W or 9.5W shoe, for whatever that's worth.

I have a couple pairs of Smartwool that I love. I also love the wool socks from Costco, but they don't sell them all the time. They are great in the washer and dryer.

Everyone seems to love Smartwool socks but I prefer Icebreaker wool socks. They offer a lifetime guarantee. If they ever wear out the company will replace them, no questions asked. They fit me well and are soft right out of the package. I wash my wool socks on the gentle cycle in the washer with Eucalan (which is a wool wash with lanolin in it which makes the wool in the socks even softer) and hang them to dry. They are nice and warm but I never sweat in them (one of the qualities of merino wool) which I love.

I love World's Softest socks. They fit a lot of the criteria of what you are looking for. They feel AMAZING on, not tight, or overly bulky and really luxurious feeling. I live in the "cold north" and find these are wonderful for all purpose wear including walks in the snow. If I was going to be out in the snow for many hours I would need to go with wool heavy socks, but for most winter use including indoor wear I love these. Sometimes you can get a sale on them, but they are sold in stores and Amazon as well. They are a little thicker than most Smartwool basics, but not as tight and for me they last longer and are more lux feeling, IMO. I can recommend things like "Weekend Ragg crew", "Weekend Gallery Crew" or "Textured Crew", "Weekend Cable Crew" for what you are looking for (but I have loved every pair I have purchased.) I think it would be worth trying one pair to see if they might be good for you. worldssoftest.com/

They are not tight at all and keep my feet nice and warm. are they thin enough to wear with shoes or boots? I was worried because I usually wear thin socks with my sneakers. But I didn't notice any tight fit. I have a problem with my first 2 toes on one foot and they are very prone to pain with compression. The socks performed extremely well. They are really full and soft until it comes time to slip on the shoe. Then they are just soft. I didn't notice my toes at all.
